Robert Altman followed up the sleeper success of M*A*S*H with an off-kilter avian fantasy set inside the Houston Astrodome by the writer of Skiddoo! It's a nascent gathering of many of the principal talents who would populate Altman's triumphs and tragedies over the next decades. Shelley Duvall's post-barfing kissing scene is a highlight.

This isn't difficult to find. Try Amazon. I was privileged to be on the set during the filming of a few scenes. The guy I was working for was asked by Adler to supply some props. We asked if a visit was allowed, and he said sure, come by Thursday, that's when they are filming the nude scenes. Altman, noticing a few strays, (us) and threatened to clear the set if he had to do a retake (he didn't). During the take we hid behind a flat to avoid interfering. Good memories.

It's funny that everyone agrees that not all of Altman's films "worked" or were "good", but no one agrees on which (although everyone seems to uniformly hate Quintet).

Roert Altman is a true hero of American cinema. He maintained that independant spirit when others sold out to the Hollywood system. Sure, not all worked (such as Popeye) but then he makes films like The Player and Short Cuts which are unlike anyone else's movies. He had a distinct style that could feel like a mess at times with people talking over one another and very strange stories. I even enjoyed his last film The Prairie Home Companion. It was a minor work but had it's own quirky charm with a great cast, including Maya Rudolph. I probably saw Brewster McCloud on HBO and thought it was the strangest films I'd seen up to that time but I did not dilike it. Bud Cort (who is more a character than a great actor) seems to be continuing his Harold character from Harold and Maude (let's see Hollywood try to remake/reboot that) and is the least interesting person in the movie. Sally Kellerman is wonderful as the gardian angel. Altman can be a frustration to those who are slaves to linear stories and contrived conclusions but to us who love risky cinema he is among the best that American cinema had to offer, although his cinematic sentiment seemed to be more European in kin with Godard and other New Wave directors who abandoned those convoluted concepts of plot....they were working from the interior.

Great and *fun* film. Yet also features the only ending that almost made me cry. Something about it just kicked me in the gut.

I have always found that once you decide to view an Altman film, you should either give into it's conventions or leave. You can't experience Altman half way. And when you agree to his terms, you'll probably have some of the best times of your movie viewing life.

"He was short, shorter than you as a matter of fact" "I'm 6'2 Millhouse" "Impossible, I'm 5'9 and you look much shorter than me" "That's cause you're standing on stairs"

Everyone naming other things Bud Cort was in is sending me. So I'll name that he was the voice of the computer Edgar in Electric Dreams 1984.

Altman gave thirteen people "and Introducing" credits in M*A*S*H, but Rene Auberjonois was not one of them. 🤯

Young man tries to accomplish a physics defying feat of derring do by holing up in the solitude of a magnificent location? Holy crud this is just a really twisted superhero movie isn't it? In case you didn't notice the cop in the opening is reading a Captain America comic. These days it works accidentally as a parody of the MCU.
