One thing we lost with "music on demand" is great DJs. What a great era. I'm glad I was able to experience it. It's like having your favorite podcaster playing your favorite music. Ha!
You aint kidding. They will put just about anyone behind a mic these days. Sirius XM is notorious for this. There’s a couple channels I love for the content but the dj’s need to go.
This appears to be from two different days. Towards the end of 0-4:29 on this Larry talks about a flattering Trib article that mentions he was born in Quasqueton, IA. The only Trib article that matches that is dated June 7, 1972. Starting at 4:29 is a different day, judging by the time checks. Larry gives an ad for a showing on "Ensign Pulver" that afternoon on channel 7 at 3:30. The only match I could find for that is a listing in the Trib the very next day, June 8, 1972. That makes sense that the original poster captured some on one day at got some more the next morning.
I started listening to Larry on WLS when I a kid in the late 60s. I worked really hard to imitate him, which made for hilarious schtick at school. Larry is to blame for my later career in broadcasting, where I even worked in the same market just 4 years after this recording (at a much smaller station). Did I say blame? I meant thank! And thank YOU for posting this.
