I believe you $51,000 per month is a lot of money. So he makes approx $3,200 after tax per month, still not bad considering he hasn't worked with them for long. He could actually be earning more if he stayed at NTV but the benefits that come with working for CNN cannot be compared with Local TV stations.

People of 1st world have developed structures to pay hard working staff better to hold and improve programs in media or CNN for Larry to attract more viewers. Working for CNN will propel his career to crazy heights and he can work on any Local TV station & only on Senior Roles and get paid almost four times what he's earning at CNN. I believe that is the strategy he is using. Look at Jeff Koinange, he's one of the highest-paid journalists due to his experience in CNN.

WRONG MATHS . Salary in the US is quoted per annum. So $51,000 divide by 12months = $4250 per month. Less taxes plus some allowances here and there. I'm a Kenyan in the US . By US salary standards, that's average / entry level income for a degree holder.
Salaries abroad are calculated per year for ease of taxation. It is most likely 51,000 per year - which is actually not much as per US standards. 80k and above is a good amount. So I still doubt the 51k figure
Its probably a metre a month. Maybe add 500k or so to that, on the upper side. These things depend on the strength of the CV and the total region they cover - local correspondent, national correspondent or regional etc. Of course, anchors are at another level. And some correspondents specify on certain subjects e.g. politics, health. For a regional correspondent, hat figure of USD 51,000 is definitely not monthly (that's too much), and neither is it yearly (too low). I know to Kenyans this may seem a lot but some Kenyans in diaspora are earning twice as much. That's just average, I thought he earned more, they are under paying him.

We have Kenyan bankers not cashier or customer service but specialist in investment banking, doctors, engineers, architects all earning 6 figures to name just a few professions. For a TV reporter on 50k,that's nothing.

You get paid for your hard work and long working hours. Yours is more commission-based than permanent a very big difference. Now he's lucky he's back in Kenya hence his expenditure costs will not be as high as when he was in US.

They aren't there for the salary but to serve the people. They are not highly paid. Actually African politicians are the best paid compared to other continents but it's mainly due to corruption and impunity.
