But I love the truth (even if it hurts) and I have observed that Mexican fighters can't beat top tier black fighters. The pride that my people have is ridiculous at times because its blinds them. Instead of learning from black fighters, they try to dismiss what the African American community has done for Boxing. Not every Mexican is like this (I know Im not) but I know one thing. For a Mexican fighter to be truly great, he has to beat a Top Tier black fighter. Mikey couldnt. Oscar couldnt. Margarito couldn't. Canelo runs from them. Fernando Vargas couldnt. Juan Manuel Marquez couldnt. Diego Corrales couldnt. Marco Antonio Barrera couldnt. Only one that was truly great was Cesar Chavez Sr. But even he had difficulty. I'm from Argentina. I guess most Americans would call me Latino, although I don't identify with Latinos, or whites, or Native Americans or anything racial/ethnic really. Regarding boxing, I generally support the guy whose style I like the most, regardless of where he's from or how he looks. My top five favorite boxers are Floyd, Ali, Leonard, Jones and Tyson, so I clearly don't have anything against black boxers. In fact, I so much like Floyd Mayweather than when he fought Maidana (Argentinean), I wanted FLOYD to win. IMO, there's no point in supporting a guy who just happened to have the same nationality, race, religion, etc. that you have. At this point in history, it's absolutely clear (unless you are a f* idiot) that people of any nationality, race, religion, etc. can succeed in boxing, or in any other sport, or in any other activity, and the fact that THAT guy succeeded doesn't make YOU (or your race, religion, etc.) BETTER. So you don't really deserve to SHARE any part of that guy's accomplishments. If he was a boxer, HE won the fight, not you! Now... I follow lots of RU-vid boxing channel and this is something I see regularly that I find puzzling and a bit distasteful: All the time I see black people supporting black boxers and being biased in favor of black boxers. Somehow, that's perfectly normal and there's nothing wrong with that. Larry Merchant is 89 years old, he aint all there. The "great white hope" was a common phrase in boxing used for several different fighters. He just said the opposite which is "the great black hope". Because people are super sensitive these days, that wont fly but he doesnt get that because hes 89 years old.
