Larry Norman - Why Should The Devil Have All The Good Music? ~ Track 8
From the Album "White Blossoms From Black Roots" ~ 1989 ~ (Solid Rock Records)
----------------------------------------------------------------
While there are numerous collections available already, if there's one Christian artist who is overdue a definitive "best of" then it's Larry Norman. This latest reissue from Solid Rock makes a valiant effort to redress that omission. 'White Blossoms From Black Roots' has a checkered history; originally set to hit the streets in 1987 it first saw light of day 10 years later (albeit with subtly changed track-listing). A further decade on we Brits get to join in the fun. The 13 tracks seem perfectly chosen - a mixture of classics from Norman's pivotal 1970s output, previously unreleased tracks and alternative mixes. Expected songs from the " Trilogy" albums are all present and correct - "I Wish We'd All Been Ready", "Why Don't You Look Into Jesus", "Why Should the Devil Have All the Good Music" and "The Outlaw" - plus a couple from the unfairly under-regarded 'Something New Under The Son'. One of these, the charming party piece "The Sun Begins To Rain", features jazzy piano from actor/comedian Dudley Moore. So often "best of" CDs can be padded out with filler material but not here. While fans may argue over tracks which have been excluded each song earns its place - be it the rockabilly of "The Man From Galilee" or the White-Album-psych-rock of "Looking For The Footprints". The same applies to the bonus tracks, including some of Norman's work with the late lamented producer/singer Mark Heard. Taken on its own terms, and without comparison to the other collections available, this album forms a handy cut-out-and-keep account of the cream of Norman's output. Here's hoping it also serves to bring this CCM icon to the attention of a whole new generation of Christian musicians and music fans.

We saw him perform in the late 1970’s. He was one of the few Christian musicians who made you want to get up and dance! I am glad to see his music lives on… He was one of a kind. It’s too bad there are trolls here being snarky, because he was a visionary.

Psalm 98: 1-6 O sing unto the Lord a new song; for he hath done marvellous things: his right hand, and his holy arm, hath gotten him the victory. The Lord hath made known his salvation: his righteousness hath he openly shewed in the sight of the heathen. He hath remembered his mercy and his truth toward the house of Israel: all the ends of the earth have seen the salvation of our God. *Make a joyful noise unto the Lord, all the earth: make a loud noise, and rejoice, and sing praise. Sing unto the Lord with the harp; with the harp, and the voice of a psalm. With trumpets and sound of cornet make a joyful noise before the Lord, the King.* Psalm 150:1-6 Praise ye the LORD. Praise God in his sanctuary: praise him in the firmament of his power. Praise him for his mighty acts: praise him according to his excellent greatness. *Praise him with the sound of the trumpet: praise him with the psaltery and harp. Praise him with the timbrel and dance: praise him with stringed instruments and organs. Praise him upon the loud cymbals: praise him upon the high sounding cymbals.* Let every thing that hath breath praise the LORD. Praise ye the LORD. 🤷‍♀

We forget just how radical this was when Larry Norman first sang it. There were many Christians who seriously believed that rock music was demonically inspired. There are some today who believe this. Well, I am saved, born again and known by the Holy Spirit, and I'm with Norman on this. To refer to another great Christian rock band:. "Awaiting Your Reply."
@jochanaan58
@jochanaan58 4 года назад
@GoodFruitForGod There is no "antichrist spirit" in a musical genre. There are only musicians who breathe their spirit into their music. Larry Norman, by singing of Jesus and writing in these styles, brought the Holy Spirit to many who would otherwise never have come to Jesus. "...no man can say that Jesus is the Lord, but by the Holy Ghost."

@GoodFruitForGod Gee, are you the pastor of the First Church of the Fuddy Duddys, or just a member? Lighten up, dude. Satan's stealing your joy, and using you to rob others of theirs. Speak the truth in love. Condemn sin, not good music.

Brother Aaron, this is the song that I was telling you about last evening. It is so beautiful. I had never heard this before. Seems like it was months ago that I saw it the first time. I was thinking there was a bluesy song you did while wearing a hat (not a baseball hat). I thought it was like a Frank Sinatra look, and song. My memory is not the best on Gabapentin for this Achilles tendinitis. It makes me more forgetful than I was before. LOLO

When David returned home to bless his own family, Michal, the daughter of Saul, came out to meet him. She said in disgust, “How distinguished the king of Israel looked today, shamelessly exposing himself to the servant girls like any vulgar person might do!” David retorted to Michal, “I was dancing before the Lord, who chose me above your father and all his family! He appointed me as the leader of Israel, the people of the Lord, so I celebrate before the Lord. Yes, and I am willing to look even more foolish than this, even to be humiliated in my own eyes! But those servant girls you mentioned will indeed think I am distinguished!” 2 Samuel 6:20‭-‬22 NLT There is absolutely nothing wrong with music and dancing, just don't forget about the Holy One you serve and what is written in His Word!!!!

John 14:6 Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me. 1 Corinthians 10:4 And did all drink the same spiritual drink: for they drank of that spiritual Rock that followed them: and that Rock was Christ. Revelation 21:4 And God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes; and there shall be no more death, neither sorrow, nor crying, neither shall there be any more pain: for the former things are passed away. Amen Christ Himself tells the truth its because He is the Truth. Very good song, I believe God should have the good music as for Satan let him have the bad music knowing he is evil and not good at all.

@@lfree9588 Thanks - Larry WAS incredibly gifted. I saw him live several times, and was able to speak to him once - he was very humble and approachable, and he inspired me to be real with my faith and not worry about the Fundamentalists. But he was clear that what he was about was Rock 'n Roll, and just plain good music of any kind. He could write and play with great variety - from symphonic compositions to ballads, punk, blues, hard rock, solo keyboards, any kind of guitar...when he was with the group People, they fronted for some major rock acts, and he went on to have a quite successful solo career with various groups he assembled, touring the world because he had a world-wide fan base. I remember that at one concert, they had his mike turned down, possibly because of the venue, - but he got on the mike and told the audio guy: "Turn it up. This is Rock'n Roll!" He had his problems, all common to artists who tour a lot and struggle to make a living. But talent? He had that aplenty and a good share of genius to go with it, and the perseverance to see very ambitious projects through - like a 40 song, 3 album cycle. And he had a great sense of humor. Gone too soon, sorely missed, unique in every way. Rest in Peace, brother Larry.
