I’m from the City 415, but I have to admit Vallejo is beautifully unique. You can see it from E-40, Mac Dre even Nef. Larussel is just an evolution of that ,the soil is rich. I am grateful to be from Bay and Larussel is a reminder of why I love hip-hop. It’s not just music for us who grew up in these impoverished neighborhoods, it’s a guide and a reminder to stick to your integrity in the most difficult of situations.

When Russ was asked about having industry freedom and then turning around and signing an artist he came back with that LaRussel he was to ill to put in a box and that the reason he signed with him was for song freedom. He gave him some money and his connects and just stepped back.

I agree with y'all that putting the label of 'conscious' on a rapper can be very stigmatic. With LaRussell though, I feel like he's one of those rare rappers who I actually want to hear preach. Pointing out that he's smiling in the thumbnail is an interesting detail I didn't notice. He's not a traditional character like most rappers, just a regular looking guy. His demeanor is unchanging, he always seems like he's just enjoying himself as he moves step by step up the ladder of his dreams. He keeps his raps simple, but not in a talking down way - more like a matter of fact way. I don't see how his formula can fail; he's a likeable dude with super dope rhymes that sound good but also have something to impart.
