Here watching this on June 5th, 2020, wishing I was somehow back there in 1968. Imagining simple times, not this crazy world I'm in now. Imagine what it was like in those old casinos, how dark the desert sky must have been with less city lights.
Outstanding footage Ken!..When modern Vegas was only about 20 yrs old...plenty of gorgeous neon, and the hotels/casinos were of manageable size instead of the behemoths they have become today, and before the town was disneyfied....thanks so much
There is no more disneyfication. Even when you made this comment from Casino. They stripped every thee and now every casino looks the same now. No use in walking miles to the same casino.
Old Vegas seemed to have alot more class, with Sammy Davis Jr, Frank Sinatra, Dino and even Betty Grable I saw on one sign, as regular entertainers. Now a seedy element has crept in.
There has always been a seedy element. The mob ran things back in the day. They had crime back then too. It's just the mob was good at hiding it. Now it's out in the open and obvious.
WE ARRIVED IN VEGAS JULY 1968 I COULDN'T BELIVE THE HEAT I WAS DYING IT WAS HORRIBLE I WANTED TO GO BACK TO IRELAND . THEN EVERYTHING HAD AIR CONDITIONING YOUR HOUSE YOUR CAR THE STORES EVERY WHERE YOU WENT HAD COLD AIR !!!!!!❤❤❤
I just was able to go to Las Vegas in 2015 for 3 nights, I would love to go back however seeing how it was in the past makes me want to go back to those years where everything was simpler.
Never been to Vegas, wouldn't want to go now. But sure would have gone there in that time. If I can in another realm of existence after this one I will, even if just for a night. Love that Stardust sign and of course Vegas Vick.
👍Fun. Thanks! Good call on no music. Was there for the 1st time in 1969. 1st casino we went to was the famous and fun Castaways on the Strip. Miss the $0.19 and $0.29 Breakfast Specials at many of the casinos. Does anyone else remember those?
Really nice video, and much appreciated your post here. It was certainly a different time, back then, now its somehow a bigger and different place... filled with this "show" of sophisticated and glamorous elements, all the while having inner city problems fraught with crime, filth and degeneracy. Simpler times back then, it was more "truthful" in terms of what Las Vegas represented. Also, back then, you could get a room at Circus Circus for 10-15$ a night.
SORRY SORRY WE CAME TO VEGAS JULY 1965. MY DAUGHTER SHANNON WAS BORN IN MARCH 1968 VERY HAPPY TIME FOR OWEN AND MYSELF 🎉🎉❤❤ SHANNON WAS CROWNED WEE MISS LAS VEGAS SHE WAS ONLY 3YRS OLD . THEY WANTED HER TO GO ON TO BE A MODEL WE THOUGHT SHE WAS TOO YOUNG 😊
I love the scenes of people crossing the street early in the film. This all seems to be at Las Vegas Blvd & Convention Center Dr. The thing being built in the background (0:40) must be the International aka Las Vegas Hilton, Westgate. 3:18 camera held out of the window! great shot
I never got the Chance to see this Vegas because i was Born in 2001 I only get to see the boring new digitalized signs, no Stardust, No Frontier, No Mint and No Fremont street without a canopy
That old Fremont Street is the quintessential Vegas, what most of us remember from childhood. Today some of that original neon is still there but they turned it into a Hollywood Blvd and attracts the thuggish crowd. Vegas Vic is still there but not the Pioneer. As for the modern Strip, it's not a bad thing that it appeals to families, and it's the reason LV has had an economic boom these past decades, so we can't lament it all. But the Vegas of Sinatra and Tom Jones will never be again, just like Old Hollywood is gone forever.
Ken Butz every audio from that album has either the same or very very similar footage. Vegas lights does too, yes. I could be wrong but if it isn’t this footage it was most likely shot on the same film
Hi Ken, this video is great! Would it be possible to use it in a video I'm putting together about books set in Las Vegas with full credit given to you?
I was so exhausted from the bikini oil wrestling and the tickle fights with the front desk staff at the hotel that I barely got it together enough to visit the edible bra and panties museum.
