Las Vegas pizza restaurants fined $277K for violating child labor laws 

It’s almost like our lawmakers catch these guys only when they want a paycheck themselves.

Exactly that money needs to go to the victims. The state is the problem here.

@@realamerican8069 We did have it good- jobs were available for anyone willing to work. There was no DEI crap- you got the job you were qualified for. I came from a poorer area of town and had a lot of black friends, and most all of them had a working father and a stay at home mother. One's dad was carreer military and had moved a lot during his time in the service and had bought a house at a number of cities and then rented them out whenever he was transferred. He had it made- owned 3 or 4 houses free and clear. It was the do-gooders and excuse makers that screwed things up for our kids- The welfare state destroyed black families, affirmative action took away the necessity to prove your worth and the education system started telling everyone that everything was a disease- alcohol, drugs, crime- were no longer your fault, it was something or someone else to blame.

If you underpay employees, I doubt that involves jail time. Employees have spent 7 years suing for 3,000 dollars. Dudes get away with a lot of things because 3,000 dollars over a 7 year period of time isn't a great amount of money. Maybe people need harsher penalties for the things con-artists would do.

that's a failure of society - kids should be able to spend most of their time studying and having fun, maybe a part time job at the ice cream shop for a bit of pocket change if need be; plus you may not realize it but you were being exploited for cheap labor - they love kids cause they can get away with paying them less and bossing them around more

I was in high school working 30+ hours a week, not a thing wrong with it.

It would make sense to give that money to the children if we the adults and the gov really care about those children that worked there. If the state keeps the $277k then there no different between the pizza restaurants owner and the state. The state used the law and the children to collect the $277k.

The fine is not being assessed by the state. It’s the result of a federal investigation.

The state is the bigger bully, child actors are not of legal age to work. It’s all hypocrisy by the government.

Different states have different laws regarding child labor. Then you have emancipation which is an option if your kid is making money.

Perhaps the business should either comply with FLSA standards for underage workers and only task them with those duties that they’re legally allowed to do, or hire adults. Businesses do not have a right to obtain labor illegally. Where would it end? Children running welding machines in a sweatshop with no air conditioning for 12 hours per day? Usually, those who complain about having to comply with fair rules are the ones who are inclined to break them.

More than you think. I worked at a pizza chain while in college as the prepper making dough and sauce and dealing with chopping things and putting it all in the containers for the pizza makers to use. Many pizza places have salad bars and veggie pizzas are very popular. So tomatoes, peppers, onions etc all needed to be chopped, plus all the veggies for the salad bar for the salad bar. Have you ever been to a salad bar?? Go to one and see what exactly has to be chopped and prepared for it. Back then It had ice and the ice was covered with kale leaves because it wasn't a newer refrigerated salad bar. I started at 9am before the store was open (11am) and left at 2pm. And that was just for 1 days prep.

I never vote red/blue, incumbents/candidates that accept corporate donations/establishment candidates/people who have spent more than 10 years in politics overall, anyone who will be over 65 at the end of thier term. I'll bet you have no idea who I will be voting for. But NONE of the candidates on the ballot will be getting my vote, and for the record, I haven't voted since 2014, it isn't worth my time because none of them have any civic duty to thier constituents, I have none to them. My granny (born 1928-2018) always told me that politicians were like the trash, if they sit too long they start to stink.

Politicians had 45 years to close the border, and they didn't do it.
