Imagine going to the park and seeing some kids playing around and shooting eachother with fake guns. As you get closer you realise that no, those aren't kids playing with fake guns, it's Bill Hader and Andy Samberg shooting people with toy cats.

⁠@@amyb1078I feel like they surely would’ve had to have used trained actor cats. The fact that the real cats weren’t in so many shots kinda suggests they weren’t trained but that could’ve just been intentional comedic choice plus 90% of the shots were obviously too rough to even use real versions. SNL is loaded I’m just assuming they’d pay for the trained ones for general safety

It's similar in style to Dan Harmon's "Computerman" and "Laser Fart" series of shorts from his Channel 101 days. Chris Tallman's "Time Belt" series is also a worthy forerunner. Lonely Island was making shorts there at the same time as them too, so I bet that some of that rubbed off on Andy Samberg. Love Laser Cats!

What would be better than watching this skit? The video of the original pitch meeting where Andy Samberg and Bill Hader actually pitched this to Lorne and got his approval. I kinda think that Lorne's reactions in this video are actually genuine disbelief on the lines of "They want me to film this........???"
