Nice one, well done, prefer the black frame as well, makes it pop, and of course you can also colour the roads and so on. Once thing I do often is use a Topographical map from online sources and then create a contour based map of your chosen area and then overlay some of this data as well for a real 3d experience. The final maps look superb.

If you don't consider the price then this one the Atezr P10. Great cutting and engraving capacity plus built in air assist intake. If you are looking for something in the mid price range then Longer Ray5 with 10W module or Ortur Laser Master 2Pro with 10W module. If you are on a super tight budget then the Atomstack A5 Pro+ with 5W power module - good for engraving but cutting perfornance not as good as the 10W modules obviously.

I'm using 3mm plywood for this project. I think for this particular map 3mm ply works great as its not too thick as you put the layers together or to thin. If for example I only had 2 layers I could have used 4mm but anything thicker than that would just look strange I think

Great video as always, something I'll definitely be doing for my home town - but I noticed when you did the cut for the water feature the area lower right effectively creates an island surrounded by the river which would drop out of the layer. @@CasualDIY do you then merge the layers and then use the trace bitmap?

@@ivandrazic9805 You don't have to trace bitmap afterwards as far as I remember

Great project, good instructions to follow. Are there any steps skipped? Such as when the text from the bottom is removed and is the water edited? When I create the water vector as instructed, then load it into Lasergrbl it has a square boarder and is not self contained like on yours. Also it is not a PNG file. Any advice? Thanks.

No stepps missed. Just amending the graphic to what I want exactly. One thing you need to be aware of when doing the water cut out is that the water lines need to be closed off to be cut out. Are you using correct settings in lasergrbl? You can adjust few things there that would give something you are saying.

@@CasualDIY Thanks for your reply. The water lines aren't cut off which is giving me the issue and I was struggling to figure it out. Probably easy to do but I am new to this!

@@simonedmundson7271 I have the same problem. And I am sure that there are steps missing... for example closing the water lines and remove the frame around ;) This is exactly what I am currently struggling with also. But in total a quite good instruction.

When you say, "massive square," how much bigger than your actual design?

At 2:22 you just BANG are back in the editor and don't show HOW you got back there... VERY confusing. Thanks but this critical step isn't shown.
