I think you have to round (bevel) the inside bottom of your top plate to get the transition from the sides to flat smooth. You may find you have a 'crease' or line where the top plate meets the leather. Rounding edges is always a good idea.
Cool. Thank you for sharing this. The one suggestion I have is to pat some of that water out before wet molding it. I saw that in a few of Chuck Dorset of "Weaver leather craft" videos.
Great first part! I don’t have a laser but I have a Cricut and should be able to do pretty close to the same process. One quick tip with Illustrator, you don’t need to change your units at all. If you’re set to inches but want to use mm for a measurement just type the mm after the number and illustrator will convert to whatever unit is currently set. Off to watch part 2 now!
