I think you have to round (bevel) the inside bottom of your top plate to get the transition from the sides to flat smooth. You may find you have a 'crease' or line where the top plate meets the leather. Rounding edges is always a good idea.

I used acrylic to make the molds. Worked great

Cool. Thank you for sharing this. The one suggestion I have is to pat some of that water out before wet molding it. I saw that in a few of Chuck Dorset of "Weaver leather craft" videos.

If you don't have Illustrator. All these steps can be done within Lightburn.

So I watched part 1 and 2. What happened with the kidney bean shaped mold? Did it not work out for some reason?

And was going to buy already made expensive molds😳🤪My laser will be here next week! I’ll design mine..thank u!!!

Great first part! I don’t have a laser but I have a Cricut and should be able to do pretty close to the same process. One quick tip with Illustrator, you don’t need to change your units at all. If you’re set to inches but want to use mm for a measurement just type the mm after the number and illustrator will convert to whatever unit is currently set. Off to watch part 2 now!

can i use this technique for chrome base leather?

Just idea but you could put two locating holes of 3/8" or so and use wood dowels to center all the pieces. Plus awesome video. Thank you for sharing .
