I love my Face/Off Ld. It holds a special place for me as it was one of the first discs i got upon release when i started collecting. It was still during a era where ntsc releases came out even before they hit cinemas here in the UK. Also the bbfc cut the scenes depicting the butterfly knife which was super jarring at the time. So to have Face/Off early AND uncensored was a highlight. Great video as always man.

I'm well aware that there are two types laserdiscs. There's CLV discs and CAV discs. What are the differences between the two types of laserdiscs and which one is better?
@DamnFoolIdealisticCrusader
@DamnFoolIdealisticCrusader 2 дня назад
@@shortshaker9236 CAV is better slightly and has individually stored frames which you can navigate to individually. But it can only hold 30 minutes per side whereas CLV can hold 60 minutes. If you have a good set up and watch titles regularly, you can start to notice that CAV is better in aspects.

Just thought you’d like to I picked and have bin reading one of the Phantom reprints book 9 killers town really enjoying it . And I’ve bin talking to every Booktuber I can in the comments about the phantom i usually talk mainly about book 12 . Because of the romance element and that being the only other one of I’ve read and a bunch of book tuber seem to be looking for books with vampires and witches . Do any of the phantom novels have a strong romance element or focus on the phantoms legacy which what I really liked about book 12

I have two copies of horizon and face off, one I bought new and the other from bundles. And they forgot how to mix audio post 2001

Our sound mix pain over modern standards is tremendous. I’d say it was probably about 2005-2007 where you last had any life in mixes.

the 1989 evergreen for the special longer version of Star Trek TMP from Japan shouldn't have laser rot and its in digital sound. I have Discovision American Graffiti CAV the transfer is actually fairly decent too bad about the laser rot. The film source they used looked relatively new and nice warm color. Some of the Japanese repressings have surprised me in their picture quality Raiders, Star Trek TMP SLV, Empire Strikes Back first issue pan and scan. All better and cleaner no rot unlike US pressings. What did surprise me was how crummy the last issue Superman II Letterbox from Japan looks. Its pretty close to the DVD era and the sound is great picture is so soft.

It seems to be hit or miss at times. Usually Japanese pressings from later will be cleaner if there’s no equivalent usa pressing but then I’ve seen some that were noisier or darker. I never realized there was a pcm audio pressing of the SLV, that’s great!

19:40 "This is done in the exact same style as the Looney Tunes Golden Collections".... I think you mean The Golden Age of Looney Tunes sets. Looney Tunes Golden Collections were the excellent DVD sets from the 2000s.

Yeah it was a slip of the tongue. I always do that when talking about either the golden age sets or golden collection volumes.

I'm watching my copy of Empire Strikes Back from the Japanese Definitive second issue with the making of trilogy, was surprised it was missing the beginning of Leia Welding. Also the transfer is muddy and red shifted. Except for red shift and sunburn in Star Wars and misaligned rotoscope that transfer was very good. I wonder if JEDI will be good or disappointing. Star Trek Insurrection Japan LD worse than the initial DVD and of course mine has laser rot. I was not pleased i paid 60 dollars for it. Light rot maybe a 1 or 2 and gets better as the film goes along but should have none. The Pan and Scan Star Trek V Japan LD is one of the worst transfers i've ever seen. VI was decent in Letterbox but not great. 1-4 all have great transfers in pan and scan. None of the TNG discs look great except First Contact. The audio on FC is stunning.

Yeah, Tom and Jerry have NOT had a GREAT release history on home media. The main problem being that unlike the Looney Tunes shorts, the OG camera negatives to most of the MGM cartoons were destroyed in a 1978 vault fire - meaning most of the time they have inferior copies. The Art of Tom and Jerry laserdisc series is... good (or at least as good as a laserdisc in 1993 could be), and the shorts are presented mostly uncut... except for two. His Mouse Friday had all cannibals dialogue removed and Saturday Evening Puss has the 1960s re-drawn version by Chuck Jones instead of the original. As for DVD and Blu-Ray releases: - The Classic Collection box-set (from the UK) had EVERY SINGLE Tom and Jerry cartoon in chronological order: from their debut in 'Puss Gets the Boot' (1940) all the way up to the final Chuck Jones cartoon 'Perchance to Dream' (1967)... but unfortunately they used 1980s Turner prints which (a) didn't look very good, and (b) WERE HEAVILY EDITED, with all of Mammy Two-Shoe's dialogue being redubbed and multiple blackface gags being cut. Plus, the cartoons from the late 1950s made in CinemaScope were horribly panned and scanned. - The Spotlight Collections (from the US) were better since they had some decent bonus material and the CinemaScope cartoons were presented in their original aspect ratios (except Pup on a Picnic which was cropped to 16:9), but unfortunately, they were all arranged out of order, and for all the 4:3 cartoons they used the same crappy Turner masters as the UK set. Initially, the Spotlight Collections had the cartoons edited like the UK sets, but Warners later offered a disc replacement program on the first two volumes, and most modern pressings have the cartoons uncut. Sill the cartoon His Mouse Friday was HEAVILY EDITED and two cartoons ‘Mouse Cleaning’ and ‘Casanova Cat’ (which were both included uncut on the laserdisc and the UK Classic Collection) were COMPLETELY OMITTED. - The Golden Collection Blu-Rays were GOING IN THE RIGHT DIRECTION and were 75% of the way there. This time they had the cartoons uncut and presented in chronological order. Volume 1 had the first 37 T&J cartoons, and 27 of them were newly restored from the CRI elements and looked ABSOLUTELY BEAUTIFUL way better than they ever looked before. The PROBLEM was there was some sort of inventory mix-up and 10 of them were restored from horrible 1960s MetroColor prints and looked AWFUL, and ironically, they looked EVEN WORSE than the ones on the Spotlight Collections. There was a Volume 2 planned, but like what Warner Bros. did with the Spotlight Collections, they pulled Mouse Cleaning and Casanova Cat from the set, and fan outrage caused the set to be cancelled. The newly restored prints were later released on digital platforms like iTunes and RU-vid Movies. This time only two cartoons were restored from MetroColor prints… and unfortunately, they looked bad. But the other 40 cartoons on the set were restored from CRIs and looked good… but like many Warner animation sets made in the early 2010s (including Volumes 2 & 3 of the Looney Tunes Platinum Collections) the colour grading was a bit too dark, with Tom looking dark blue in many of them. That being said, considering what they looked like before it was still an improvement. Plus, we FINALLY GOT A COMPLETELY UNCUT VERSION of His Mouse Friday. But yeah, these newly restored versions don’t have a physical release. So yeah… when it comes to Tom and Jerry on physical media, you’re basically kind of screwed. Hopefully, now that Warner Archive is doing those (mostly) excellent Looney Tunes Collector's Choice Blu-Rays, maybe they can also do a Tom and Jerry set. Maybe they can re-restore the 12 cartoons sourced from the MetroColor prints, fix the color grading issue for the cartoons restored for Volume 2, and FINALLY GIVE the fans the perfect T&J collection we've been waiting for.

I’ve tried to follow it over the years but the situation like you say is an absolute mess across formats and releases.

@@DamnFoolIdealisticCrusader If I HAVE to recommend a release, it would be either the three volumes of the Spotlight Collection DVDs and Vol. 1 of the Golden Collection Blu-Ray (Vol. 2 was never released), but neither of these I 100% recommend. Hopefully WAC will take up the task and gives us T&J fans a proper release of these cartoons.
