Brand: Lasko
Model: Contemporary
This is a 36" Lasko Contemporary ceiling fan in the Winter White finish with solid white blades and the original light kit. The model number is 3600L and this fan was manufactured sometime around July 1992. The fan features your standard 3-speed reversible motor and also includes a cap if the light kit is not used.
This small plastic marvel shouldn’t be as celebrated as it is amongst fan collectors, yet these cheap, delicate, plastic wonders continue to be sought after and appreciated for what they are. Lasko branded ceiling fans were really one of the premiere economic brands of the 1980’s-90’s. They were widely available at hardware stores and box stores like K-Mart and Walmart and were very affordable compared to other fans on the market.
The “Contemporary”, or also commonly just referred to as the 3600L, was the absolute cheapest option Lasko offered in terms of ceiling fans. Introduced around the late 1980’s, these fans were offered in several colors including White, Beige, Blue, Pink, and Brown, with the first 3 colors mentioned being the most commonly found. Earlier versions of this model featured a unique stencil design on the blades that was eventually phased out in the early 90’s. Production of this model lasted until right around the late 90’s with the later versions featuring a more rounded/flat blade tip. These fans are incredibly light weight and cheaply made, everything you see besides the blade brackets, downrod and screws… is plastic. Even the light kit and shade is plastic which was notorious for becoming brittle and breaking due to the heat of the bulb. The fan you see in the video was originally sold at Walmart which was the common place to have found these fans for sale back then, typically ranging in price from $20-$30.
Overall this fan is garbage. The plastic construction is cheaply made, the airflow is below average for a fan this size and the way the pull chain is designed makes it difficult to operate when the light kit is installed. Despite all this, there’s just something to love about it. It’s certainly a unique design and the fact that they’re so poorly made is probably the reason why many of these never lasted long and were trashed, making them sort of uncommon and sought after.
