Brand: Lasko
Model: Contemporary
This is a 36" Lasko Contemporary ceiling fan in the Winter White finish with solid white blades and the original light kit. The model number is 3600L and this fan was manufactured sometime around July 1992. The fan features your standard 3-speed reversible motor and also includes a cap if the light kit is not used.
This small plastic marvel shouldn’t be as celebrated as it is amongst fan collectors, yet these cheap, delicate, plastic wonders continue to be sought after and appreciated for what they are. Lasko branded ceiling fans were really one of the premiere economic brands of the 1980’s-90’s. They were widely available at hardware stores and box stores like K-Mart and Walmart and were very affordable compared to other fans on the market.
The “Contemporary”, or also commonly just referred to as the 3600L, was the absolute cheapest option Lasko offered in terms of ceiling fans. Introduced around the late 1980’s, these fans were offered in several colors including White, Beige, Blue, Pink, and Brown, with the first 3 colors mentioned being the most commonly found. Earlier versions of this model featured a unique stencil design on the blades that was eventually phased out in the early 90’s. Production of this model lasted until right around the late 90’s with the later versions featuring a more rounded/flat blade tip. These fans are incredibly light weight and cheaply made, everything you see besides the blade brackets, downrod and screws… is plastic. Even the light kit and shade is plastic which was notorious for becoming brittle and breaking due to the heat of the bulb. The fan you see in the video was originally sold at Walmart which was the common place to have found these fans for sale back then, typically ranging in price from $20-$30.
Overall this fan is garbage. The plastic construction is cheaply made, the airflow is below average for a fan this size and the way the pull chain is designed makes it difficult to operate when the light kit is installed. Despite all this, there’s just something to love about it. It’s certainly a unique design and the fact that they’re so poorly made is probably the reason why many of these never lasted long and were trashed, making them sort of uncommon and sought after.

I have two of these. Late 80s with stencil and a 90s blue one just like this.

Also seen two in the old walmart entrance without the light. Before they were replaced by 36 HRS Canarm Industrial. My Aunt and uncle had one in their bedroom in a mobile home. Also a 52" CEC GE Vent with lower brackets cane blades in the kitchen.😮

Now this to me looks less contemporary and more along the lines of new age industrial, perhaps that which could be found during the windmill revolution of the 1970s. It was a truly a magnificent time actually, I have quite a collection of literature and first hand accounts of the tense standoff that took place between the commies and the Mongolians during this era as they both fought to be the first to design a ceiling fan that could simultaneously be utilized as a jet engine and a means of slaughtering whales to provide blubber for oil lamps during the infamous blackouts of the time period that resulted from the over usage of female gestation hormones as a means of increasing unpasteurized skim milk yield from fertile calves.

Ah yes I remember those infamous blackouts, without this atomic windmill the overpopulation of whales would have increased greenhouse gasses leading to the collapse of society as we knew it. The coal powered counterpart proved to be ineffective against the gestation hormones as highlighted in the EFFNP case study published in 1972 by B. Patterson Energies & Associates, truly a remarkable advancement in the revolution mentioned above. Thank you for sharing as always.
