When a big department store owner hears Ellen sing at church, he offers her a job on a radio show he sponsors, but that means she and Jeff must live in the city, leaving Lassie and Gramps behind on the farm. (TRIVIA: Jan Clayton ("Ellen Miller") was a brilliant and accomplished Broadway actress and singer who created the lead role of "Julie Jordan" in the original 1945 Broadway production of Richard Rodgers and Oscar Hammerstein II's "Carousel", and then as "Magnolia" in Rogers and Hammerstein's "Show Boat" the following year. She can be heard on the original cast recordings of both Carousel (1945) and Show Boat (1946).
