A funny episode with great comedy. Gramps' day starts great but quickly goes downhill when he finds all his equipment repairs are going to take 3 days to fix from the tradespeople, he gets a flat tire coming home from town, and then from there everything just goes from bad to worse. Not even Lassie can help - when she tries to make his day better by offering to play, runing up and hitting him in the back, almost sending him flying. Then she tries to make amends by offering him a screwdriver while he's trying to fix something, he gets mad at her hollering "I don't need no screwdriver! Don't need your help, neither!", then promptly smashes his thumb accidentally with his hammer...and blames it on Lassie. Even Mother Nature conspires against him when he decides, in a fit of crankiness, he needs a day off just to go fishing. A storm brews, and Lassie comes to Gramps rescue. The ending is very, very sweet!
TRIVA: Best lines in the episode occur after Gramps, nursing his smashed thumb, goes storming in the house all mad because Ellen and Jeff are comforting poor Lassie. When Gramps turns around and accuses them of caring more for Lassie than him, then slams the kitchen door going inside, Ellen sighs and says to Jeff:
"Once and a while it just seems as if everything goes wrong... and Gramps is having one of those days."
Jeff, looking at the slammed kitchen door, says in a worried voice:
"I sure hope it's just one of them. Be terrible if he stayed that way!"
