A couple of Arnold movies that I don't know if you've reacted to (at least I don't remember seeing you react to them) that you probably should are his Conan movies, Conan The Barbarian, Conan The Destroyer, and to an extent Red Sonja (technically he's not playing Conan in that movie, although rumor has it his character originally was supposed to be Conan buyt it had to be changed for legal reasons). If you haven't reacted to them yet, then please do. I think that you'll really enjoy them.

Some "fun" facts, but murder clearance rate in the US hovers between 50-62% depending on location, so on average if you kill someone, you have 6/10 chance of never being held accountable. Since a lot of murders involve someone you have a history with, if you kill a stranger on the street without an eye witness and not on security camera, odds are very good that you just get away with it (although don't stand in a white suit screaming into the streets that you just shot someone). So, when the villain kills a guy, it does go to prove the point that safety is an illusion and the real world is nothing like the movies.
@johnmorris8444
@johnmorris8444 3 года назад
Yea, it’s a sad statistic. Crazy that it gets worse dependent on where and when you are. I remember a few years after Katrina the rate of murders being solved in New Orleans was around 8%. Absolutely nuts to think you could kill and your odds of getting caught if you are the least bit careful are next to nil.

@@MrZampanov I have not read the comics, so I cannot speak on that behalf. I just found Dredd, with Karl Urban, to be a more generic action movie, not particularily rememberable (perhaps that is not a word, I am not a native English speaker) than Judge Dredd with Stallone. But then I like the original movies, that I grew up with, better than the newer versions of the movies. Newer movie versions like Robocop, Total Recall, or the Dredd movie with Karl Urban. As for the Dredd movie, it has better special effects and such, I just find that it lacks the charm of Judge Dredd, and is also a bit lacking in the character arch / arc (unsure of the correct spelling of that word) of the main character of the movie. But each their own taste I guess.

Definitely a very underrated movie, I think at the time was eclipsed by Jurassic Park, that opened at the same time (this movie has a reference to it in the tar pits), but people has appreciated it more and more with time. Is a very clever movie that is more enjoyable the more you are into the type of movies it comments on and you are knowleadge of its tropes, specially Joel Silver actioners of the time, Lethal Weapon and such... They even got the great Michael Kamen to compose the soundtrack. He has a nice callback to Lethal Weapon music when the cop says "3 days to retirement", a Murtaugh line. I think you didn't catch Sharon Stone playing her character from Basic Instinct just seconds before the T-1000 in the police station. At the time that was a great cameo

This movie is really underrated. It deserves more love than it received in 1993. The only reason it didn't do so well was because more popular movies, like Jurassic Park and other movies came out that year. The way Arnold acted in that film is so incredible, because we haven't seen him do such a hilarious movie like this one. I don't think a lot of people have seen him in such a funny role before, and that's why I think people enjoyed or loved the movie. I just love how people actually recognise the movie and watches it a lot more now. It is definitely a lovable movie that every Arnold fan has watched. It definitely needs more credit and redemption than it has gotten. Definitely a top 5 Arnie movie that I could watch over and over again without getting bored about it. I remember in year 8 in my school, I asked my teacher if we could watch it, so we did, and people loved the movie. It definitely has earned redemption for how awesome this movie is.

So after "Twins" Arnold said he would alternate between action films and comedies. His last film before this was Terminator 2, so it stood to reason that his next film would be a comedy. Unfortunately with the title "Last *Action* Hero" audiences in 1993 expected an action movie... Not a parody of every action movie Arnold has made poking fun at every cliche, every trope in a standard action film. It wasn't well received at all. And when I watched it back then, two of my friends who were die hard Arnold fans actually walked out of the theatre. This was the film that was Arnold's first box office bomb. And it took reuniting with James Cameron to get his career back on track with True Lies next. Fortunately it seems that Last Action Hero has regained some positive recognition with the audiences of today, who have no preconceived notions of what they are "expecting" to watch.

I wouldn't say True Lies got his carreer back on track, it was his last Swan Song, his last great typical Arnie action movie. The Arnold golden age ran from 1984 with The Terminator until 1994 with True Lies, a nice decade long. After 1994 he never really returned to his prime and most of what he did after it was always a let down in some way. There are 3 distinct eras in his carreer. The first is his before mentioned golden age. Then the next 10 year was all mediocre performances: Junior from 1995 was kinda pathetic, Eraser in 1996 was meh, THen came a run of bad to mediocre movies Jingle All The Way, Batman & Robin, End of Days, Collatoral Damage and ending with Terminator 3 which kinda marked the end of his 2nd decade run (1994 to 2004). He made two other movies but only played small parts and then he went for the governership of California only to return in full in the mid 2010s with Terminator Genysis. Nothing has impressed me since his return 6 years ago but I'm still hoping they make the Legend of Conan movie but I doubt that will happen.

I would include Conan in your Golden Era- however he did have some lows with Conan the Destroyer and Raw Deal (man was THAT ever a stinker!) Yes everything else was forgettable. And I wish they had stopped having him in Terminator films- Genisys was ridiculous and I refuse to watch Dark Fate.

Jack Slater’s daughter is played by Bridgette Wilson, who would go on to play Sonya Blade in the original Mortal Kombat movie and Adam Sandler’s love interest in Billy Madison, then married tennis superstar Pete Sampras.

There's a bit of a rumour that if you look closely behind Jean-Claude Van Damme, the man behind him is supposed to be Timothy Dalton, which would be a homage to his "James Bond" films ("The Living Daylights" and "Licence To Kill"), but I can't seem to find any evidence that he was ever on set.

Love this movie, you have to watch it a couple more times to catch all the cameos and references. Maybe have to see a few more movies from that era as well. I saw it at the theater and thought it was genius as the cheesy action movies were getting old at that time. Have watched it several times since and it's my daughters favorite Arnold movie. So glad you both got it and really enjoyed it. Peace.

Gotta check out The Last Boy Scout and Hudson Hawk. People took The Last Action Hero completely the wrong way. It was supposed to be making fun of action movies from the time; how over the top they can be, how silly some of the dialogue can be, all those sorts of things. It seemed that it went over people's heads. It's one of my favorite movies for all the reasons that you guys pointed out and enjoyed it for.

Another reference that you missed was when they were first entering the movie LAPD police station, just before you saw Robert Patrick as the T-1000 on the right side of the screen, on the left side was Sharon Stone dressed in a white skirt suit lighting a cigarette (the kid points at her). This is the outfit that she wore for the famous interrogation muff scene in "Basic Instinct". The same scene was also referenced in "Deadpool 2" when DP is on the couch with Leslie Uggums regrowing his legs and talking to Cable.

Loved the reaction. Maybe im pretty dark myself but i love that "hey shut up down therrrrre" lmao gets me everytime! But seriously. I totally agree with your review. I love how happy, sad, slow, fast, references, cheese, realism, comedy, seriousness, THE MUSIC! LIKE ALL OF IT omg it has so much. Great reaction. Trust me when you rewatch this & i would bet money yall will 😂 trust me listen especially to the orchestral score... wow wow wow its sooooooooo good too. I made 3... 3!!! Whole videos just about the score & its brilliance in terms of its diversity in tonality (imo im no music expert) the 4th wall is broken & a mirror shows a camera man or maybe director too. Best bad guy ever omg i love both the ripper & bennadict & the boss lol and the traitor. Just non stop fun/craziness. Oh the screeching was to mask to make the others think she is being hit not the other way around. There is a theory this movie represents action movies changing in hollywood too

Ah yes, the movie that gave us one of the most insane cinematic concepts of all time, Schwarzenegger's Hamlet! It also has some great lines. "He killed Amadeus!" "This is an action movie, it's gonna work. [...] Oh no, I'm a comedic sidekick, it's not gonna work!" And of course, "Rubber Baby Buggy Bumpers!"

I really enjoyed this movie when I watched it as a kid, but not only did I not get a lot of film and movie star references, I also did not understand and appreciate other aspects apart from the comedy like the violence in real world and how the society is numbed to it. Rewatching it again made the experience even more enjoyable! Speaking of top Arnold films, Terminator 2 is not just the top film by him, but the top film of all time and still is for me.

Keep up the good work!! I was surprised to see William Goldman's name attached to this movie - it might be why the dialogue is so witty. You saw The Princess Bride that he wrote - and I recommend A Bridge Too Far as a war movie he did. The main villain was great in The Golden Child - a hidden gem. The police chief is great in 48 Hrs. - a must watch. And if you like silly comedy - The Blues Brothers - which is also a fantastic musical at the same time.
