To me, I think it took tremendous courage on Ben's part to get up there and do this interview. He probably knew people were going to say how ill he looked. But he did it anyway. Darling Benjamin, you are so loved and missed. And yeah, you WERE the sexy one! 💕
It's incredible what illness can do to you, I have watched this a hundred times trying to figure out why he looks so different. Is it his thin face, his crackling voice, his thinning hair, is it just me because I know he is dying? Cancer is beyond pitiful and heartbreaking
I could only bring myself to watch this interview twice. Always miss some things first time round. It broke my heart seeing Benjamin so ill thin and obviously in much pain. He was always so humble and kept his personal life as private as possible. The talent as a musician is undeniable. He was the voice of The Cars. He was a true and great Rock Star. On stage he was who every one watched along side Easton. But Benjamin was the "it" factor in the band. Never seen a more sweet and down to earth musician and human being in the public eye. Crushed hard on this beautiful talented man and thanks to You Tube .... he is forever young, vibrant, amazingly talented and beautiful 💗😎💗 R.I.P Benjamin Orr. You live on through the memories of your many fans and will for years and years to come... And in our hearts You rock and roller 🎶😎🎶
Benjamin Orr and Ric Ocasek are alive in my parallel reality as are some artists and some ordinary people (except those who died in their twenties and thirties), I was also I was shocked and sad when I saw him like this even his voice was fading.
The reason why Orr was so private is because most musicians during their time even Ric were they always kept to themselves. A lot of their peers from Elvis to the Culture Club, even Duran Duran didn't care to expose themselves to seek attention except their music. It wasn't until guys like Motley Crue and Guns n Roses started exposing themselves on the front page news. That's when things started to change.
@@philliplandry4139 That's really it, I learned through a post by Ric Ocasek's oldest son that he as a person was a terrible husband for his first wife and a terrible father for the children he had with her, although I thought it was also an ugly attitude for Christopher Otcakek to expose such a personal issue and of the bands you mentioned, two of them are also my favorites
The thing about Ric, he was so very creative as a musician but terrible as a person. Whenever he came out with his second album, his ego got so huge it cost his own band to break up. Ben and the rest of the members was not happy with that decision at all. As the 90's went through, Ric became irrelevant because of the grunge, rap, and alternative music was on the rise plus with Ben's passing. Ric's attitude became much better towards the people around him. He started to look out for his kids more and he stayed with Paulina for 30 years the longest marriage he ever had before calling it quits. The only thing that he did wrong was divorce Paulina and took her off his will right before he passed.
@@philliplandry4139 Really, as an artist, a genius who composed almost all the band's songs and a legitimate showman as shown in the music video "Tonight she comes" where he sings, dances, acts and mimes, but as a person he was terrible for most of his life, his friendship with Benjamin Orr was more in his youth when The Cars was in formation because in the final circumstance who was Benjamin's friend Orr was Elliot Easton who, in addition to being my favorite members who decorated well on stage, were the closest outside of it and resuming Ocasek's attitude of removing Paulina and her two children of the first marriage in the testament was an attitude that amounts to a bad character.
Benjamin Orr was such a talent. I regret never having seen them live. Orr always looked like he was having the time of his life in every video I've seen of them live.
@@GamertagTOWELLIE me too they came out around the same time as Van Halen I saw this tour the cars in 1982 at the Cow Palace and I really didn't appreciate it as much as I do now
I never knew about this interview until about 5 years ago. When I first saw this I started crying and turned it off. It took a few days before I watched it in its entirety. It’s devastating to see how ill he was here. You can tell it must’ve been hard for the other band members too. He is such a humble man. He was loved and adored by so many. Benjamin was a real trooper. He performed with his band Big People a few weeks before he passed away. RIP Benjamin 🙏❤️
@@WaldenpunkNot in the top 40. And honestly, even the good ones you are referring to aren't creating something that will grab people and last for decades.
RIP beautiful Benjamin, you will always be in our hearts of those of us who love you with your music. You were a great musician and composer, physically beautiful and a very sweet man, I hope you are with your great and good friend Ric singing in heaven ... I love you forever !!! 🤗😇🙏🎸🎤🎼🎶🎶🔉🔉❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️🌹🌹🌹🌹💓💓💗💗💗
He looked real thin and raspy in voice. He must have been in pain during that interview. He was a champ. I know he's fine now and leading the choir up above. God Bless all his family and friends .
He did look and sound very frail. That is not how I choose to remember him, he will always be the sexy Benjamin Orr from days long ago to me! I never had the privilege to ever see the CARS in concert, however, we have this great thing called RU-vid. Timeless musicians and pioneers in the industry. The way Ben would look at Elliot and just smile, the way he would turn to look at Rick, priceless moments in time that I can Forever Cherrish!
@@misterrainwizard beautifully said Wayne. It broke my heart to watch this interview. The first time i was crying so hard that i was unable to watch the full interview but eventually i did watch it. That was some time ago but just now watching this clip from that last interview, i feel like my heart is breaking all over again. I have lost loved ones to pancreatic cancer, such a horrible disease and often not diagnosed until the late stages. I also choose to remember the gorgeous, very talented Benjamin Orr from days long ago. I am so thankful for You Tube!
@@kittensanddaisies5615 I like to remember Mr. Orr as the sexy beast that he was. Life and mortality will catch up on all of us, it's just a matter of time. Thank God we got to share some time with Ben.
He knows his value - not based upon looks - nor talent - but a humble - and I'm guessing - broken heart - we are all like the grass - we grow green and then quickly wither - God bless his loved ones
I'm glad he chose to grace Atlanta with his residence and presence before his untimely passing. I loved The Cars. They were truly unique and sounded just as good live as in the studio.
I loved the cars, the vocals, the songs, the synths...everything. As a fellow " buckeye" and former professional bassist like Ben...I know the rigors of the stage, and the shows, etc. I've always GREATELY admired his bass playing and his unique " sound". Felt a strong " kinship to his soul". Deeply saddened by his passing and of Rics also. One of my favorites bands of all time. Im 65 now and their music is still as fresh and original as back in the 70's, and 80's. Drive....one of THE BEST songs ever written, recorded, produced and released of all time. Rest in piece my " friends".
The most unique, original & real bands that ever existed. No one ever successfully took off from where they left off because it would have been impossible to even remotely reproduce. American originals ❤️
Yes, it certainly does. I have lost several loved ones to cancer. I recently lost a dear friend to cancer and lost my cousin to pancreatic cancer several years ago. My brother in law is currently undergoing tests for lung cancer and another family member was recently diagnosed with Hodgkins.
Ele fez a sua pior escolha, fumar. Isso foi um fator agravante para provocar o pancreatite. Mas, ele já cumpriu sua missão terrena. Agora, trabalha com a Espiritualidade pra mudar a todos nós. 🎶🎸 Hail, Ben🏆Orr!🎤🎶 O verdadeiro Espírito Vivo da The Cars 🚗♥️
you see i didn’t know of the cars unti years later and when i first saw this i was in shock because there is no mention of what was wrong with Benjamin and i think they wanted it that way and you can see and i think that this interview is inspiring and sad but the band made it the interview great thanks
I hadn't seen this before, really sad and confronting to see Ben like that when my memory of The Cars is always that dynamic, original, young rock band that was such a huge part of the soundtrack to my adolescence in Melbourne, Australia. Their music just doesn't get old, still gets a regular spin at my place, I suspect it always will.
What an interview, can imagine it was very tough but also cathartic for everyone. Ex husband~kid’s father was a bass player, died of the same disease around same age as Ben. It’s a b^ t c h kind of cancer to go through. R.I.P. Benjamin Orzechowski & BEH.
Such an awesome voice!! The song All mixed up rocks,so I check out how good it sounded live and surprisingly he sounded really good live.Yes I have a lot of time on my hands hahaha
@@THXx1138 Sorry for the confusion lovesilk1. Before the invasion of "Wokeism" "transition" often referred to the transition from the physical realm to the metaphysical realm, in other words I was referring to Ben Jr.'s father's "physical death". The reason I mentioned this is because of the obvious pain inflicted on a child to lose a parent at such a tender age. I cannot imagine how a child processes that?! Adonai
@@THXx1138 I apologize for being cryptic using the word "he" instead of "Father". I hope Ben Jr. is leading a fruitful life, maybe even in the music world. "Stay the Night" is one of my all-time favorites. Sending Love and Light. Mac
I wasn't really a cars fan back in the 70's and 80's. But today I can really appreciate what a great band the cars really were... If it wasn't for the cigarettes, Ben would have been still alive today. Such a great talent who made some silly choices. R.I.P. Rock Star.....
@@mrbill9248 Good Genes. It also depends on how much you smoke. I think that Ben might have been a heavy smoker.. Most of the time smoking will cause cancer, strokes, etc, somewhere further down the line. Smoking and cancer are definitely linked.
