Because Hungary was cut off from the west because Austria was neutral, The West planned of a attack against USSR but failed because this would cause WW3.
@@ignaciosolano6263 How the heck could Spain have done it? They didn't have enough troops to beat the Warsaw pact and even if they wanted to offer air support, they had no nearby bases and they would have had to send planes through neutral Yugoslavia which would have been shot down and would have resulted in Yugoslavia falling back into the Soviet sphere, strenghening the Soviet Union
@balu2784 the term rose from western communists defending the crushing of the hungarian revolution with tanks. Hence the term tankie came to be associated with authoritarian communists
One of the great betrayals of the Twentieth Century. Secretary of State of the U.S., with Eisenhower's approval, made a speech promising to help any Soviet satellite that rebelled, about a month before the Hungarian war for independence broke out. But in private Eisenhower promised the Soviets that he would not help.
This is Hungary calling. This is Hungary calling. The last remaining station. We are requesting you to send us immediate aid in the form of parachute troops over the Trans-Danubian provinces. For the sake of god and freedom help Hungary!
@nauticalnovice9244 that's weird because somehow primarily Ukrainians starved to death while elite Russian party members came out more or less fine. That and the 300k tons of grain aid the USSR denied. Are you suggesting somehow Ukrainians are more susceptible to starvation?
@@Southerly93that's the fault of centrally planned economy, not a deliberate attempt to starve Ukraine. You can see that the regions which were struck the hardest were the ones producing grain in Ukraine and Southern Russia. This happened because the government took all the food produced and sent them elsewhere, usually to factory workers and soldiers. This resulted in farmers being left with no food at all. Party elites, of course, no matter their ethnicity, didn't allow themselves to feel a bit of hunger, but that's the case in every country.
@@Southerly93 Or you know we could go with a more down to earth hypothetical. We've seen what the soviet state is like, we've seen how secretive and downright sinister their political apparatus can be. Say it was deliberate, why the hell would they keep that on record or tell us?
Its quite weird how these days on youtube you cant even mention these things without tankies invading the comment section and trying to justify these atrocities
Nah, we haven't forgotten, and what happened in Ukraine is not even remotely the same as what happened in Hungary. Part of Ukraine legit voted to join Russia and their government started shelling them for it. The US then covertly came in to support the murderous government because of financial interests of the corrupt US president, who couldn't care less about the freedom of Ukraine, which they are turning into a colony of BlackRock's
@@rev2929 Khrushchev's leadership didn't give us freedom. Gorbachev knew the soviet union was too weak to suppress all of their puppets and occupied nations so he let the warsaw pact nations break free, and then the Soviet Union collapsed. Franco wanted to send troops, but 1956 was a bad time to aid a revolution when the Soviets are the opposing force with the Suez crisis going on in the Middle East. So Hungary was practically a “sacrificial lamb” for peace. The reason I put that term in quotes is because I saw another commenter comment something similar to this comment and those were the exact two words he or she used.

Actually its a bit sad how they call it “the soviets” and “the Hungarians” its not true, i am saying this as a Hungarian. A lot of soviet soldiers stood next to the Hungarian ones and helped us with weapons and such. Thanks for every soul whoever fought or stood up. And also there is no “truth” on the world, and is never going to be. keep this in mind.
You are completely wrong. There are some things in this world which are a universal truth. Like that the sky is blue and a tree is a plant. Those are truths and will never change. To say there are no truths is stupid

I have no love for Putin or the failure of a regional power that is Modern Russia, or Russia province, China as it will soon become due to Putin's kowtowing. But why should Viktor Orban change social policies in his country because other European leaders don't like it. Again I don't like how he's pursuing closer ties to Russia and China either, but other EU leaders aren't really giving him a choice.
@balu2784 I mean it's not like the western powers had any viable way of supplying Hungary with major material support, the only way would've violated Austria's neutrality.
Yes it would. The same can be said for Switzerland. You cannot enter another nation's airspace without permission. Especially if arms or military aircraft are involved. Austria could have given approval, but then they might be seen as not neutral. Although the U.S. did this in 2002 to Austria. Austria granted permission for a U.S. transport to fly over its air space, but the U.S. secretly sent two F-117A's with it as well. @balu2784

You are trying very hard to put pressure on pity, but if the Soviet Union was as bad as the Third Reich, then all East Germans of the GDR would have been subjected to total genocide through starvation, murder and other ways, as you wanted to do with us (Slavic peoples), but you damn Frits were defeated, largely due to The United States and Great Britain, but nevertheless. Russification , or what is a milder option for you, if you were left alive, but forced to be Russian, that is, your name would be Ivan or Dmitry, you would speak only Russian and consider yourself Russian, that is, an analogue of the Nazi policy of Germanization. And after that, will you still say that the USSR is equal to the Third Reich?
@@user-jf1wv5mw8u okay, maybe this comparison wasn’t really fair, I admit. I meant some policies of the Ussr and Nazi germany were similar and bad, like the Soviet deportations of Crimean Tatars, Holodomor, or the deportations of Finns, Karelians, and Baltic peoples. @@masturbinho6656Ask yourself a simple question: was the standard of living of East Germans higher than the USSR and other Eastern Europe?
