BRIEF:
The citizens of core Kathmandu City observed the Shree Pachali Bhairav Khadga Siddhi Jatra, an event occurring once every 12 years. This performance unfolded on the evening of October 24, 2023, on a Tuesday, Dashami, within the premises of the Teku Pachali Bhairab Temple.
Referred to locally as the "Barha Barse Pachali Bhairav Khadga Siddhi Jatra," which translates to "exchange of the swords" in English, this cultural performance involves the symbolic exchange of swords. This act occurs in front of the Kasthamandap Temple in Basantapur and traditionally involves the Head of the State and the deity Shri Pachali Bhairab.
During this festivity, designated holy individuals wear attire resembling deities and partake in a traditional masked dance with a belief to bring good luck. This dance forms an integral part of the celebration of the Shree Pachali Bhairav Khadga Siddhi Jatra, which is observed every 12 years at the Pachali Temple in Teku.
HISTORY:
It is said that Licchivi Kings established the Pachali Bhairab temple to protect the Southern Koligram city, as of now Teku Dovan.
