Interesting look at Laney under Beam. I played at Laney for coach Peters in the early 80's. Same deal, off campus housing, part-time job and a full load at school. Great experience at Laney!
RJ was just as good if not better than Dior. That coach had it out for him big time. Didn’t even help the kid with colleges. Didn’t want him to succeed for some weird reason.
It's hard to say. These shows get edited a lot and you don't end up getting the full picture. From my POV he seemed like a talented player but not one who took coaching well and he seemed to make a lot of mental mistakes. I think the coaches were just trying to get another level out of him but he wasn't always receptive. Also gotta remember they didn't have the greatest quarterback situation over there.
Just talked to Beam last week and seen him this weekend at the 7v7 at Laney... Good dude... Shoot I'm 50 and he was coaching Skyline HS when I was playing... LOL
@MARCVS LICINIVS CRASSVS we used to scrimmage them when I was at Saint Mary's in Berkeley. Those were some slobber-knockers. No score kept and a lot of shit talking. LMFAOOO 😂 😂
@MARCVS LICINIVS CRASSVS yup... Reed wore my #28. I played there 85-88 and just finished my last year coaching my son team who went 11-0 this year. I did 28 years of coaching there, but now I'm gon road trip to watch the kid play.
@@doclew28 Nice! I went to school in Alameda 89-93 and St Mary's was always a tough week. We still rooted for St Marys to win NCS in 92 but I think they lost to Alhambra that year.
Nah. JB was definitely over Stephens. JB didn’t care how good of a player you could be. If you can’t go to class, be coachable, and always talk back & act like u better then the team, he won’t play you. He uses harsh words but who cares? Lmao, this generation SOFT. Most of the players and staff vouched that JB cared more about the kids progressing as MEN than players cs football Ain’t forever
Was not impressed by Beam and even less by the CCCAA no scholarship BS. Just thought Beam thought he was more than he was and the BA about staying at laney for the community as a cop out. Season 5 was a let down
Agree. I was really only able to follow because I'm from the Bay and remember Coach Beam from when he was at Skyline in the early 90s. Those boys were on point back in the day.
If your talking about team success then yes, this was the worse season. But I don't think it was the worst season as far as television goes. These players faced by far the most adversity of any season and it was a nice change of tone. Also pretty all the players were so lovable and damn near impossible to root for, especially Dior and Nu. This was a good season. I just wish we got a second season with Laney like they did for east miss and Independence.
