After 10 years of living in Japan, my best friend (and Maro retrieval hero) Mark is moving back to America 😭 We had always wanted to explore Miyajima Island together so this is what we decided to do for his last day in Japan ❤️

I am sorry Mark will be so much farther away now. But, maybe this will give you a good excuse to visit the USA more often. I continue to admire him for his incredible generosity in retrieving Maro for you! It was such a loving and compassionate gift to you and Maro both to reunite you. I have to say, the change in your video making style is really noticed here & I enjoyed it a ton. This video felt like it was an episode of a narrative travel show while still feeling like an authentic Sharla vlog. Excited to see your videos evolve from here. I appreciated the additions of captions on the various Japanese foods & such. Definitely makes me want to travel there on my next trip! Sorry to see Mark go but, I wish him the best. Hope all goes well for him back in The States. The good news is, you’ll have more reasons to visit the US now.

Thanks for the amazing memory!! I've been waiting to go to Miyajima, and I was glad that was my first experience with it. Now, no other visit will trump it 😂. We're super far now, but I just like to think of it as me preemptively moving west and waiting for you guys to move to the UK 😊. Miyajima island is such a beautiful place to visit. I went there in 2016 & 2017. My husband and I went hiking there too, so nice!!! I love your videos, and I'm glad you guys were able to hang out before Mark leaves 😢❤ Have a wonderful and safe trip, Mark!

We must have been there like literally the week after you, there was just the last remains of sakura by then. I also loved Momijidani park, we walked down through it from the bottom of the rope way to Mt Misen, even without sakura it's such a beautiful park

So My favorite thing about watching these videos, is seeing things I want to do the next time I go to Japan. My second favorite thing, is when ai can say I've been there. And this one had both! I loved Miyajima and when I was there I kept thinking next time I have to try and stay the night on the island. Loved seeing some off the beaten path stuff to try and find next time.

We got back from our wonderful two week trip to Japan on Monday night. It was wonderful and I want to go back and do it all over again! We went Miyajima Island on our visit in 2009. A deer tried to steal my icecream 😅 I have a canvas print of the gate - it is a gorgeous part of the world. I'm so sad my recent trip is all over 😢 We had an amazing time 🎉

Miyajima was one of the highlights of my trip in Japan late last year. I met my HelloTalk friend and we stayed at a hotel right on the other side of the water (you can see the hotel several times in this video), and the weather was perfect that day. They were still dismantling the scaffolding on the big torii, but all the was left was the walkway, and we were allowed to walk across it and underneath the torii which is basically unheard of (probably only when they do repairs on the torii which is uncommon), so it was really special. Going through Itsukushima shrine was really nice as well since I was familiar with it having played Nioh which had a level that was in Itsukushima shrine. The fall colors were really nice there as well in early November, but it might have been a little early yet. Still, I would definitely recommend Miyajima to everyone.

had no idea there were rickshaws in japan, the place you stayed it looked really good, the open markets were nice too I love seeing those in japan they always look so inviting, the sakura were wonderful to see they are always a sight to behold, momijidani park did look quite nice glad I could see it, those fortunes were hilarious, the fancy dinner looked scrumptious, and the town and shrine were interesting to see empty like that, all in all a great video to watch!

I was here November 2019! Except the ⛩️ in the water was covered due to construction/restoration. Thank you for showing it to us in its truly glory and for the detailed tour of the island! I didn’t stay overnight so my time was limited there.

Yes, those are bike brakes. The wheels are basically bicycle wheels with drum brakes in the hub. It also helps them steer, as they can pull one brake at a time to help with cornering.

Been to the island twice in the past. It’s one of my top places to see in Japan. 100% agree it’s worth spending a night there. Mornings are beautiful! There’s a little “tea” shop on the other side of the bay not far from the aquarium that I had lunch at last time. The risotto was really good, and a nice change. Oh and I caught the tail end of the Sakura on my last trip in April 2018. Picture reminders have started popping up and making me miss Japan so much.
