Losing a loved-one to pancreatic cancer will be an emotionally traumatic experience. It softens the hurt when the loved-one can recognize the symptoms indicating the patient is entering the last weeks or even a few days of life. Often there is not much warning the end is near.
A comforting video of a cancer patient's last days. Heart-breaking, yet a beautiful depiction of what a loved-one and caregiver can expect during the last days of a pancreatic cancer patient.
It can be difficult to emotionally cope with the uncertainty. However, knowing your loved-one will finally be free of pain when death arrives will help ease the emotional pain and instill comfort among family members knowing the patient will soon be at peace without pain.
There will be many signs the patient is coming closer to impending death including confusion, agitation, withdrawing, speaking less, shallow breathing, greater pain, extended sleeping, eating and drinking less, becoming incoherent, issues with the bladder or bowels, and other signs that impending death is getting closer.
Comfort the patient. Touch them gently. Talk to them softly. Play soft memorable music. Try very hard not to display your sadness. Smile when the patient is awake. Speak of great memories and let them know how much they are loved.
When the patient’s impending death is near, do not leave them alone. Make sure a family member or loved-one is always with the patient. It is so important to comfort the patient. When the time arrives and even though the patient may no be able to speak, let he or she is loved up to the moment of passing.
