These two new stories reported on the history of, and last MLB game at, the Harris County Domed Stadium, dubbed the Astrodome. Now that it looks like the dome is doomed, it's time to take a look back.
I thought I was the only one .... I usually find myself going to find out what happens to these stadiums and how they be up .... I prefer they get tore down than just standing there like they never meant anything though .... I saw one on Pontiac field for the lions .. that shit just day and sat til it started to deteriorate itself and become all messed up ... hell I even found out they sold it for like 500,000.... man do you know how much shit I’m talking if I own a stadium? 🤣🤣
My family are Braves fans, but my old man would never take us to Atlanta to see them. Every year, we would drive to Houston to see them play the Astros at the dome. My old man's reasoning was that "It takes half the time to drive to Houston than Atlanta, I don't have to sit out where it's a bazillion degrees, and no rain-outs." Good memories of the dome in the 80's and 90's.
I was at the last game ever played in the dome when the Braves knocked the Astros out of the 1999 division series. It was kind of sad knowing I would never watch another game in that park. But I love MMP its a great place to watch baseball.
Astros were a good team with an attractive identity while playing here, after they moved and changed logo they became a total crap for several years until they reached WS in 2005.
Bro you have to shush. They are NOT crap! They are good, and one of the players even won MVP! You better shut the heck up🤬😕 THEY EVEN WON WORLD SERIES FOR MLB IN 2017!
The team was never that good at the dome. 0 World Series appearances, got beat twice in the NLDS in 80 and 86. People were just simply attracted to the stadium itself. The scoreboard, the modernness of what was considered state of the art back then. After the owner decided to tear down the scoreboard and the small things that made it an attraction, attendance was cut short.
These reports kind of dance around the concept that Houston got its National League start in 1962, and played in the gnarly weather conditions at Colt Park the first several years. Certainly the Astrodome made a difference, but it was 1969 before the Astros ever put up a .500 season.
NASCAR would never work but in the 60’s and 70’s the Astrodome hosted dirt track races. AJ Foyt was in most of those races. Indoor racing isn’t the best unless it’s in a big stadium. I live in Indiana and they can’t host indoor races at Lucas Oil Stadium due to contracts with Monster Jam and Supercross. They typically have hosted indoor races at Bankers Life Fieldhouse but the three I have attended have been terrible. If USAC were to come to the Astrodome that would be perfect. I would love to see dirt track races at the Astrodome
