The Long walk... We did something like that in the Mountain Phase at night, but they wouldn't disclose the distance. After 5 hours of humping, a Ranger yells out "how much further?" RI shouts back 1 more mile. An hour later, another Ranger shouts out "How much further?" Same RI, "1 more mile",,, instead of heading back into the cantonment area. I think he took us back on a loop, whenever anyone asked any questions about how far or how long. It was a grueling ruck march, I remember hallucinating and seeing ghosts of Rangers past.
All I know is ever since they took desert phase out graduates have been looking chunkier. Dugaway proving ground 20Ks from the PB to the ORP and then 20 Ks to the next PB on one MRE for a week.
class 1-90, back when it was 4 Phases. The graduate phase was the live fire Desert Phase in Dugway, Utah. In my opinion, it was the most priceless phase that actually prepared me for my combat deployments.
