Last Move For MBTA Single Level Cabcars - Work Extra Moves 1600s for Scrap

Last week the Keolis Work Extra moved 2 MBTA 1600 Bombardier cabcars for scrap Schnitzer Steel in Everett. The cars MBTX 1627 and 1642 were in some of the worst condition and needed to be scrapped nearby to Boston. Rumor has it that this would be the last scrap move to the Coke Works facility. The additional work train cars were there for added braking. Once again it was cool to see the C-1 caboose lead.

I hope they keep some of the 200’s or at least some single levels and turn them into bike cars for rush hour use.

This is just upsetting. These cars were my childhood and I saw at least 1-2 of these. I’m glad these things served the MBTA for over 30 years.

I rememeber those in 1985 when I just got my drivers' license, and I saw these things pull out of Attleboro, and the Peter Gunn theme came on the radio. really cool timing, and I was 17 and very Impressed by MBTA trains.

Those cars are being scrapped for certain. All the air brake valves are stripped off the air racks. The cars have no air brakes, only handbrakes. They've reached their end of life cycle with those aluminum bodies. Built by Bombardier in the 80's and early 90's.

@@TommyTom21Stepping on the rail puts you at risk for slipping since the top of the rail is smooth. One of the most basic parts of railroad safety is knowing to step over the rail.

They were there just for added braking effort. The brakes on the 1600s were removed

They should take the both of these passenger cars and put them in a park so that they can be used for a eating place for family events and so on instead of scrapping them.

Those car rail post came down too late. Sensors should be adjusted on rails. Railroad work done it, and they didn't pay my money for retirement. I should trip those rail sensor, but i won't. People lives are more important. Something the railroad doesn't know of. Greed is what they know.

Shit, don't scrap them. Sell them to Sartigan or chemin de fer de la Gaspésie. They'll need some of these. .
