The Last Post ceremony takes place every night at 8pm, at the Menin Gate in Ypres. This ceremony has taken place over 30,000 times, since the 1920's. The only times it hasn't taken place were during the German occupation in the Second World War. On the day the town was liberated in 1945, the buglers returned to the Gate, continuing to show their respect to the fallen of the Great War.

I was in the crowd a month after this. I'd never heard of this in my life. I can't remember where I heard of this, but I'm glad I did. Great video. Thanks!

My grand grand parents and uncles fought in the trenches and survived the mosterd gaz attacks. They couldn't speak about it and were traumatized. They fought, won, protected and liberated Flandern and Belgium. They didn't like the army and were sensitive personalities. Not noisy shouting Sergeant types. They knew all the hiding places and were very carefull soldiers. My grand-grand uncle has been decorated. The decorations are at my father's home. I liked my grand-grand uncle, he was still alive when I was born. They wanted to forget that war, my grand grand uncle designed a crown for the Maria statue in the Cathedral of Antwerp. It is still there. I had to be in the army when I was younger in the time of the cold war(reforger operations)before the unification of Germany. I did my job but don't like the army, I helped NATO. My family fought in Flanders fields and won the war. A Fleming. Other family members who were to tall in the trenches died. So sad. I will remember them too. Thank you, British empire for the help we got from you. We will remember you too. In WOI WOII and the time of Napoleon. In the time of Napoleon my family fought too and we won that war. In the time of Julis Caesar my family were Belgian Celts (Nerviërs) and won against the Romans. Can we have a little bit rest and peace now and do some business? Thanks to our reforger operations all the time, we changed the borders with the old USSR.

On passing the new Menin Gate Who will remember, passing through this Gate, The unheroic Dead who fed the guns? Who shall absolve the foulness of their fate,- Those doomed, conscripted, unvictorious ones? Crudely renewed, the Salient holds its own. Paid are its dim defenders by this pomp; Paid, with a pile of peace-complacent stone, The armies who endured that sullen swamp. Here was the worlds worst wound. And here with pride Their name liveth for ever, the Gateway claims. Was ever an immolation so belied As these intolerably nameless names? Well might the Dead who struggled in the slime Rise and deride this sepulchre of crime.

This has nothing to do with American Police Officers “massacring” African Americans. These are our troops. My 2nd Great Grandpa is etched in that memorial. ;)
