I know the feeling. It took me weeks tearing down my set and it is a lot smaller. But the good news is, it’s going to a bigger place. I plan on expanding. You given me a lot of good ideas especially the second level.
Fantastic layout. Some of the finished mini scenes are as good or even better than many O SCALE layouts I have seen. Great running layout too. Thanks for posting. I grieve for this lost layout. Thank you for posting.
I just found this myself. Oh wow! It hurts to think that this magnificent layout has been dismantled. This is a layout most of us O scalers can only dream of. Thank you for sharing this.
Thank you for your kind comments, they're greatly appreciated! You have no idea how much it hurt. Started on a new layout and will be running again soon!!!
Really beautiful layout. O Gauge is too big for me and expensive. But I did have Lionel Postwar and had a lot of fun with it. I only have American Flyer Trains now because of size and realism for not too much money. I still like the new Lionel Postwar Santa Fe set that was recently manufactured and would love to have that set. Keep at it and I will always be watching this great layout even tho it is gone now. That God for the video technology we have today.
Great layout. It is always sad to dismantle a layout, and for me it was about four years before I was up and running again after a move. Looking much forward to seeing your next one!
Even though I'm way late to the party lol. If my O gauge layout was huge like this the wife really wouldn't see me in our own house 😆 sad seeing that it has to come down
Oh no! I'm sorry to hear this man. I hope whatever the situation is that you will be able to build another layout. Thanks for allowing us the opportunity to see wonderful work you did with this one.
I love your layout, items, accessories, turntable everything! I don't believe that it's will the disassembly!A pity that he did not have time to know what!!
It may be gone, but thanks to the extensive collection of videos, it lives on in perpetuity just like the prototypes engines and railroads. Another fallen flag! Like all art, model railroads are not meant to be permanent monuments and given the rapid evolution of technology, it is not always a net loss to start over. However, with such a huge collection of O Scale, starting over does require significant space or at least an operations oriented smaller layout with staging tracks. Yards and engine facilities like turntables can be sacrificed for more open mainlines with passing sidings and few city scenes and major industries. Still, cannot fathom the amount of work involved in packing everything up for a move and tearing out the bench work.
R F, Thank you for your courteous comments, they're greatly appreciated! Tear down was a bitch to say the least. Will rebuild but not in 0 scale. I've accumulated a large collection of Marklin H0 over the years, of all their American Prototypes. My basement in my new home is bigger than the previous but I'm going to keep it manageable and not too large. Will post progress in about 6 months or so!
I really like the up passenger train I do not know the make mth or 3rd rail anyway it looks great the trucks on the cars are not huge like on some other passenger cars.
Been a subscriber for a while sad to hear that you are taking it down gave me a lot of ideas for my future layout good luck hope to see a new layout in the future
wow that was some intense building, but you'll make the next one just as great if not better as this is how we progress, just subbed back as would love to follow any progress, all the very best - Garry ( this layout was blooming awesome.) 😉
I just stumbled upon your channel. And was immediately disheartened at the title. I've always had an odd interest in 3 rail O. The rail in the middle bugs my eye a bit but there's something about a large collection of O scale stock, engines filling yards, sidings, spurs and roundhouses.that spells nothing but fun. I sorry that you have to dismantle but, hopefully you can do it again at the new place.
Thank you for the kind comments! That middle rail has been a part of my life for 45 years now and you kind of get used to it, haha! I will rebuild shortly but not of this magnitude.
I agree. The only time that 3rd rail doesn't seem normal is when I go watch 1:1 trains run. When you grow up with it, it's all you've ever seen. Personally, rhough, I do like the various means of de-emphasizing it (Super-O, K-Line's Shadow Rail, GarGraves with black ties, etc.)
Just stumbled onto this today (7-3-17). Magnificent! I predict after your fling with HO you will be back. Most guys return to their O roots eventually when their eyes quit working so well :-) Loved your AC power substation @ 1:46 in. Was that a custom-build by you? If not, what was the source?
Sorry, did not see your additional comment regarding the substation. I since finished that piece, it was scratch built with the exception of the transformer. They are made by K-line. See my channel, I did a short video on this piece.
Just found this (3/6/19). That's me! Now 72 with hearing aids & reading glasses. Took down my 30 -yr HO Central Midland for a move 6 yrs ago. Returning to my roots with more space, bench work complete, finally getting track laid down for O & Standard Gages sharing space on a 20'x17' layout.
Were all the turnouts (switches) on the old layout from Atlas? I can't get over the complexity of your yard and all the crossovers. Well planned and executed. So much like the "real thing" !!
Since you asked, haha, I purchased a new home and am contemplating Marklin HO. I have collected a lot of Marklin's American prototypes over the years. Will have to flip a coin come game day! ;)
sorry to hear that fatboyinpa but your the man so ho or lionel your layout will be grand i like all scales i have tons of n scales and tons of lionel i would love to build layouts for both haha hell ya
