I don’t consider him to be the last leader of Soviet Union. I think he was the first democratic leader of modern Russia.

While he was not popular at home I think in another generation or two, the Russian people will realize his true value.

Disappointing that so few journalists seem to have interviewed him and that he wasn't interviewed about circumstances surrounding the fall of the Berlin wall, the discussions regarding NATO and the Warsaw Pact and what exactly was agreed in particularly with regard to the commitment not to move NATO one inch east

I respect the man, but I think the reason he gradually became more supportive of Putin is either he knew he would be put down if he said anything critical of him, or maybe his view of Putin really just softened.
