It all started in 2014, with a project at Kickstarter, fulfilled its objectives and began the development of Last Year. The rest is history. Buy Last Year - store.steampow... Buy Last Year: The Nightmare - store.steampow...
@@angrykook1 thats not an answer, you just now said you worked on it o.0 - I saw the steam stats, you try to get fresh air by releasing a new game over and over instead of improving the orginal one. I wonder why Death By Daylight doesnt do a new release of a new game for every DLC they release. lol
god this game was amazing. it makes me genuinely sad that everything just went wrong for the dev team and caused it to die out. fingers crossed somehow this game gets revived, it has so much charm and I love all the characters in it :/
This game has too much charm and endured too much (Discord store shut down, trolls actively cheating and griefing, needy playerbase, people dismissing it by comparison to DBD and Friday the 13th) to simply fade away. Even today the game is incredibly fun, it just needs more people playing.
you're so right, ppl never gave it a fair chance, even at the very beginning in discord times everyone was like "omg it needs this and that and this isn't enough and i won't play it as long as this is not fixed and this isn't changed!" all the big streamers basically dismissed this game, because they had dbd to go back to, where they are fog whisperers and it's so toxic, every asym horror game stands no chance, because this is what happens each time as long as dbd is on top.
@𝕆 They had literaly millions of dollars to work on this title as well as receiving nearly millions from the government loans issued by their country that they applied for and got each and every year. To address your comment directly, sure, covid did not help, it did not help anybody, but have you ever heard of "work from home"? How was countless other developers able to work on their games with covid still around? Did you think these devs did not have home workstations to be on, and work on this game via conference calls? They also lost their publishing deal, not because of covid, but because of the current state of the game. No developer will pick up a risky title such as this, as it has tanked now several times. I could go on and on, and list several reasons why the game tanked, but I'm sure you wouldn't believe me anyway. The facts still remain. The developers had a TON of money to work on this title, they were very far from transparent with their community, and the game failed on every platform it was brought too. I'm sure you will blame discord, as most do. But truth be told, the game was actually rather successful the first month it was out on discord, but VEEEEERY quickly died out. Why is that do you think? Its not because the discord store died out. That happened nearly a year after the release of the game on their platform, and LY was nearly dead by then already. There are reasons as to why it has failed on every platform it has come too, but once again, I wont go into that here. You are entitled to your own opinion and think the game should bask in glory, but sadly, that will never happen. The only people to blame for it crashing and burning are the developers themselves.
@𝕆 You are wrong on so many accounts. Look up the funding the game got through the Canadian government. Actually, you know what, I'll do it for you. cmf-fmc.ca/funded-projects/?_project_search=Last%20year They received several hundred thousand dollars each year for several years. These loans do NOT need to be paid back. They also took out several other loans, giving elastic games even more money. So, like I said, millions. This also does NOT include any money they receive from anywhere else. Secondly, and most important, discord did not shut down a few days after the launch lol. I am not sure where you got those facts, but they are simply, incorrect. I know from personal experience, as I played the game many many months on discord. The store did not shut down for a very long time after the games release. We can go round and round. The facts don't lie, and neither does the games active player count. Every time the game released, it started out strong, and within a month died down almost to 20% of its original numbers. That's bad. Really really bad for an multi-player game. Actually that's bad for ANY game. The game failed due to piss poor decisions, and piss poor management. It's as simple as that.
I can still remember my first time playing the beta. Since then I have met so many people through this game, you guys are the most wholesome and strongest community I've ever seen. This game has always had a special place in my heart, thank you Elastic Games for making this possible and thanks to everyone who has ever played this game. You're all awesome
I wish you guys didn't have such a rough time with the game. The exclusivity deal must've been such a good idea in the beginning, with the funds to help the development of the game, but damn did it just end poorly from honestly mostly discord's fault, just abruptly closing their store down and going silent on you, screwing you with their contract. And thanks to that, a lot of people had lost faith in your game cause of something out of your control, which just screwed up the steam launch even more... I'm sorry that your game got such bad treatment behind the scenes. The game could've been so much more successful than it it ended up, and honestly, we could all still be having fun playing it.
It seems like there's an active attempt by the devs and their few sycophants to memory hole what ACTUALLY happened. The game didn't flop just because of Discord exclusivity, but that did play a role in its failure. The problems were numerous but all boiled down to being the fault of the devs. ZERO communication from devs from months to years at a time. The community didn't like the direction it was heading in and how different it was from the Kickstarter pitch. Bad optimization and bad balance that was ignored for LONG periods of time. QOL things like a training mode, a bloodweb for Survivors AND Killers or Fiends or whatever you want to call them were too little and too late. And the dev's response? Hide in their Discord, refuse to engage with the community, make 12 year olds and insane sycophantic ass-kissers their mods to kick out anyone that criticized them or their game. The game didn't fail because of the terrible Discord launch or because of the dang dirty trolls. The game failed because the devs dropped the ball. Simple as that.
@@FreeArtFreestheWorld The fact that Discord closed the store as soon as the game came out was VERY IMPORTANT and left EG without the ability to maneuver. Obviously the great silence could have been avoided, but if you have a roadmap and you have some plans and from one day to another your game disappears from the store, and you can't talk about it because Discord avoided it, it's not that you can do much, just be able to develop a new plan to get the game out on Steam, and that's what they did, but obviously, they could have communicated. The optimization was improving over time and the balance changes were made VERY often, they were always listening to the community. The developers are not to blame for everything. By the way, I'm not 12 years old, thanks. Be free to come to Discord and talk publicly about why the game is the way it is, nobody is going to ban you for criticizing it, because we never have done that. Have a good day!
@@Orsand "By the way, I'm not 12 years old, thanks. Be free to come to Discord and talk publicly about why the game is the way it is, nobody is going to ban you for criticizing it, because we never have done that." That is a god damn lie because myself and multiple people were banned for having kind of criticism towards the game.
@@FreeArtFreestheWorld i can also throw my hat into the ring there. Too many people are quick to defend this scummy dev team when they know nothing, and haven't done their own research to come to their own conclusions. I for one am glad to see they failed once more.
This game has potential, I love slasher movies and the vibes from the first game (nightmare) got it.. I love after dark too. But I think the reason why this game is dying is because of the lack of content, communication from the developers, bugs and trolls who ruined the fun. I hope they continue working on it though but probably this is the dead end since some developer in the comment section said they leave on the EG team It's sad to see this game go like F13, I wonder where I can find GOOD slasher games.
So happy this game is back. With the biggest update ever for the game, relaunch update includes.. 2 new fiends. 2 new maps. 1 new female goth displaced (Classmate). Transitioning to Unreal Engine 5. New class and more all in this update :3
Orsand!Say me please! will the game continue to be developed or will it end? I'm not ready to say goodbye to her :( I'm really looking forward to the ascension
Overall man this video is amazing, I really hope that whatever comes with the October Update you'll be able to add much more to this in the future. 10/10
@@Orsand thanks for The Information! I am in The Discord but I didnt know because Last time I checked it was around half a year ago... I was awake a Long time yesterdaynight to read everything haha.. Why ist Always EG getting in those Shit situations T-T
I fucking loved that. My favourite part was seeing all of the streamers funny clips, these guys have been streaming so much Last Year, im thankful they got to be apart of the history
god i wish i played more then two hours of this... all that time waiting for it after backing it on kickstarter, and i barely played the thing. and now it's gone for good... ... i was hoping that some framerate issues would be fixed if i waited... i waited too long.
Oo ooh wait at the end it showed last year chapter 2 again. Is that the October update?? Just a thought. It might be possible. That what there bringing is there last shot at rising the game.
Its been an honor watching Last Year grow all these years, but we shall have to see weather it wakes from its coma or... we just have to take it off life support
I've been playing this game passionately since the OG The Nightmare and I can't say in words how a unique and amazing experience I had. I was a bit sad when I noticed there weren't any announcements or updates anymore but I will never stop supporting this game and the devs, who are going trough such hardships. Damn.. before covid I was even looking towards making a cosplay of the strangler for the next comiccon. You are such brilliant people and brought so much joy to me and a lot others too, I love you all.
That was awesome! It brought the nostalgia how much Last Year the Nightmare used to so enjoyable before. I wonder where you found the clips of indeveloped game version since 2016 - 2017. I really want to learn more about the game's concept art, original plan, experimental gameplay, and more. Last Year was not good enough with many problem about the internet connection and gameplay balance. Yet it was really good with enviroment, atmosphere, and them of 90s.
thats what i was also thinking. why would they put it with no music in the background in the end? and why did they put a clip of the killer comming back just before that? maybe a hint that last year is comming back with chapter 2
