In this video, we look at albums that were self-titled but not the debut albums. Why do some bands self-title an album that s not their first? Perhaps it follows a rebranding course?
Then we go on to look at songs that are named after the bands or is it vice versa? And hey, I just realized I forgot to mention Maximum the Hormone.

Interesting video. Peter. Matt Bianco's 2nd record, The Velvet Underground's 3rd, and Love & Rockets' 4th are all eponymous.

Those are some good additions to the list, Brian. Thanks for the input and thank you for watching!

Cool video idea. 😎 Hypocrisy's 6th album was called Hypocrisy. Dimmu Borgir did a cool song called Dimmu Borgir.

@@GarethAlan81 Thanks! And thanks for adding to the topic. Wasn’t Dimmu Borgir named after a volcanic rock formation in Iceland?

Another great video Peter, I always enjoy your 'Music is a Journey' videos........ I can understand a bands first album being eponymous, but it does seem odd to do it with a later album, watching your video reminded me of a set of songs that I played on my radio show where the link between the songs was that the song on a particular album was also the title of a different album, for example Led Zeppelins 'Houses of the Holy, I did a bit of research and there are many examples of this....... it's another odd thing to do.

@@BUZZELLIOTT Thank you, Buzz, and it’s good to see you here. I was just thinking of you last night because I added Necromandus to a playlist I will listen to in preparation for another video. I was thinking of name dropping Hammerhead in there. Yes, the song named the same as another album by the same artist. I have found a few other examples myself. One missing from my video was the song Blue Öyster Cult from the Imaginos album. An eponymous band song and also the title of their debut. I’d be interested in hearing that show of yours. Can I listen somewhere?

great video as always 🙂 Iron Maiden has always been played live I believe, usually ending the set. how about Motörhead for an eponymous cover song? can't be many of them about!

@@duringthemeanwhilst Thank you, Nick! I know Lemmy recorded a song called Motorhead with Hawkwind. Did Motörhead record it too?

Very interesting look at and thoughts about that particular naming… trend. Odd how some bands never do it, some will do it on their debut and some randomly and all over the place. Like Weezer, forcing people to colour code their records to tell them apart.

@@MortenAastad Baroness also have the red album, the blue album, the green and yellow album, the purple album… Let’s start a thread for renaming albums of a band’s discography: the most-kickass album, the misguided album, the went-too-far album.

Hey. here's a cynical take: The late eponymous album = "we were too lazy to think up an album title". Not saying this is reallya thing, but sometimes it almost seems that way. The metallica s/t record was their worst up to that point (in my opinion) even though it sold a lot of copies. One inexplicable one is -- Genesis - Genesis. Really guys? Come on. I think doing eponymous songs is a cool idea and my former band made one early on, giving it our band's name, "Demontage". Kind of feel like you must put special effort into a track like that. There are some cool slight variations too, like Agent Steel with their track "Agents of Steel".

@@DamnableReverend I don’t have that Genesis album though I’ve been trying to decide if I should get it. Also Queensrÿche had a self-titled album after Geoff Tate left, which was like saying…? Yes, an eponymous song should really say something about the band. I agree. I remember reading that Queensrÿche took their name from the song Queen of the Reich, thinking about Agent Steel. Yeah, Metallica the album is one I don’t listen to. I think I like some songs, but I’ll much sooner listen to something from the first three albums.
