I remember this from the late 1970's, and travelling home from London down the A40. So great to hear it again, I did find it some years ago, but it was only available by invitation. The sequels were just as good!

I don't know the age that you have in mind, but born in 1968, I really enjoy discovering the fairly consistent high quality of "old time" radio plays! I believe that people of any age who appreciate good writing, history, and hearing many renowned TV and movie actors also enjoy OTR. Old souls and English Lit majors, maybe? (I'm both) Cheers!

@@leslieortenzi8875 Well , in my humble experience , people under the age of 40....ish , rarely have the concentration to listen to a radio play ( or watch a tv program come to that ) over 60 minutes in length . This is probably due to the instant gratification to be found on a mobile phone , or any other internet device , and would explain why a tv series that might have run into 30 or 40 epidodes in the 60's , barely makes double figures today . Lack of concentration , and too easily bored . Exceptions to be found in any rule of course . Glad you like these .

I think David, that you are speaking in a curmudgeonly way. Of course, you may be an internet troll trying to drum up reaction but let's assume that you have this extremely poor opinion of young people. I will counter. For their leisure, young people today binge watch all kinds of very complex serial shows and play group video games which require strategizing and collaboration. It all seems to require more concentration than your little radio shows or old time TV series. I encourage you to take another look, rethink your opinion of young people. For myself, I will continue to enjoy these radio shows without disparaging whole generations of the population.

@@heathercarr1879 Heather i read your reply and i can find nothing in any of it to alter my initial statement . Curmudgeonly .....a very interesting choice of word . I am happy to dispel any suggestion that the term applies to me , bad temper is luckily not one of my vices . I do however think that you are possibly displaying early symptoms of gerascophobia . This can be reversed with education . Your use of troll did however raise a smile , the last time i read that was in a childs book , you remember those i am sure . I am completely confident that the term does not apply to me , i do not set out to upset people . My first post was simply thanking a kind person for sharing a radio play . These plays ARE a lifeline for people of a certain age . Have a lovely weekend .

@@heathercarr1879 Oh well said, couldn't have put it better. I know lots of young people (under 30) who astonish me with their knowledge & adventurous spirits. Always a mistake to talk of a whole group of people as if they all wore the same hat.

Very good, and thanks for uploading. I think there was an obvious flaw to what Michael Haywood did at the end, regarding his treatment of the British Secret Service. Don't want to say any more and make a spoiler out of it, but if you listen to it all, and remember how he got into the situation, you will probably see what I mean. The Irish aunt and the cheerful KGB Colonel come over as rather clichéd & artificial characters now (remember Colonel Stok in the Len Deighton books / films? ) but I supposed seemed original back in the 1960s/70s.

I usually only have a title to go on. A synopsis is helpful. Stops me missing something I might otherwise overlook. Similarly it prevents me investing time in something that isn’t really my cup of tea. I’d like to thank synopsis writers for steering me in the right direction (and not wrecking the plot)!

Yes, this kind of writing keeps these lies alive. Outside of this and with a giant grain of salt, I am enjoying this silly intrigue. I hope there will be superior radio shows for my future selections.
