No one is taking anything Josh Pate has to say seriously when he is out here tweeting that the A&M head coaching job is a top 10 job in college football. Top paying? Absolutely. Top 10 JOB? ABSOLUTELY NOT. I get that Pate and Liucci are personal friends but he needs to step back and look at reality. A&M hasn't won a conference championship in 25 years. They haven't won a national championship in 84 years. They've consistently and historically been an 8-4 program under every coach in recent history. Hell, even the great Bear Bryant wasn't successful at A&M. Give it up, Josh. Call it like it is. A&M is a mid-tier power five football job like Kentucky (who they just tried to steal Stoops from) or Missouri. That's all it's ever been and all it ever will be.
@@PaperStackerJ as a matter of fact I know more than most on the air. A lot more. I watch cfb everyday as I am retired. None of the on air personalities has watched even half the games I have. I played. Coached and handicapp. Why would I waste my time with the masses ? I have a full time hobby that pays. But I appreciate your suggestion. I have been on a rivalry tour this past 8 weeks, attending some great rivalry games. I'm so fortunate.
I don't hate... or even dislike A&M. I'm an Oregon alum so fairly removed from anything A&M... except for that year "Johnny Football" chose A&M over Oregon. That all being said, looking at the A&M job minus any bias, it's 100% a top tier job in the country. Can people imagine the madhouse A&M would be if they started winning SEC titles? Playoff games? Nation Championships... in this timeline? A&M would make that coach a hero, build a statue, name facility's after him, pay him (insert any quantity of $$ here)... most of all, he wouldn't leave for another tier 1 job like Pate stated. My un-asked for take on this. But man! That midnight yell event was PAINFUL to watch lol 🤣 Had to see what all this Twitter "X" clips were about.
@@drc5378 but they are consistently in the top 10 for recruiting and could very easily be top 5 every year if they started winning as consistently as they recruit
Michigan at this moment is the most complete football program in the Big Ten top to bottom, President to the ball boys (and girls). Its been a process and a bumpy road to get to this point but along that path its created the monster that we have today. The Michigan coaching staff and trainers have done an amazing job of developing players and putting them in the right positions to help the program along with improve their potential draft stock. Regardless of the off the field stuff and how it plays out its been an incredible 3 years to be a Michigan fan watching whats transpired on the field of play. Go Blue
@beckylee82183 Jim Harbaugh had won a Super Bowl before Michigan got him. That was seriously past tense. His situation in SF was very tenuous to say the least even just a year or two later. And even then it’s taken basically a decade and all they’ve really done is beat tOSU.
Ryan Day just needs an analytics department to make his 4th down calls for him and the rest is honestly gravy. Huge missteps on 4th down, probably one of the biggest factors in the game.
Ohio State can’t be in the playoffs by default every year just because they beat a bunch of weak teams all year and lose their one tough game each year
We need chaos to get in. This only happened last year when Tennessee, Clemson, and USC failed to take care of business. If Texas, and Florida State don't take care of business, then we deserve that spot
@@garretttjordan you're probably right. Maybe we'd get in if Georgia loses by double digits, but it's honestly depressing to even have to hypothesize that far
Why would they? They lost much worse to UM in the 2021 CG. And that was against a worse Michigan team. Not to mention this season's Iowa lost most of its offensive skill players to injury, incl their qb. Their best hope to keep it that close is Michigan benching its starters at the half. 🤷♂️
@@positroll7870 simple. It gives them motivation to play harder and prove the odds makers wrong. This year's Muchigan team is no better than last year's team. They will lose in the semifinal game to whoever they play.
@@positroll7870 I am not doubting that Iowa may be crushed by Michigan. I was simply saying I hope Iowa can pull off an upset. Michigan couldn't beat TCU last year. They certainly are not going to beat Georgia or Alabama if they play them. They may get lucky and pull out a win in a close game against Oregon, Washington, Florida State or Texas.
Clearly a good win for Michigan, but the only real team they have played is OSU. I personally think that they won't be able to compete vs Georgia, Bama or Oregon. And they might get completely smashed by any of those teams.
Wow Texas gets a 20 second segment n I thought we talked about winners. They deserve way more n especially when playoffs are concerned bc guarantee them n Michigan would be a great game
Lol i love ya JP but Michigan & Ohio St isn't "the pinnacle" of college football. Its excellent right now because both teams have been so elite the last few years.
Why is a team that is ranked sixth favored over team that is ranked fourth by 9 1/2 points, nevertheless, could it be that Washington along with the rest of their ilk just don’t measure up on strength of schedule.👍💯
😮😮 Good on TXam for hiring the Duke HC 👏 🙌 That dude took Duke out of the CFB deep depths of NOTHING FOOTBALL for over these last 20 years in ONLY TWO (2) yes TWO (2) SEASONS. He did it with literally no skilled players no 4or5 stars talent but good hardworking blue collar players. Imagine him now working with TXam 4or5 star skilled talented players. Just give him a 4or5 year first contract and let him hire his own peeps as assistants. Do NOT micro-manage him at all and he will do great things in College Station. KEY NOTE: put a STOP to that stupid midnight pre-game nightmare of whatever the hell they do before every football game.😮😮
Remember when Nebraska decided to fire Bo Pelini because he was only winning 9 or 10 games a year. Truth be told I'd bet they wish they'd never made that move. ND the same when they made Lou Holtz leave. The list goes on. If Ohio decided to part ways with Day it better be a Meyer type hire.
@johnlee7085 Michigan did the same with Lloyd Carr, but after losing to Appalachian State, they really had no choice. Though they've suffered for a decade plus from it.
It’s not about firing, what matters is hiring. If you fire Dabo swiney, you better get kirby smart…. The replacement got to be better coach to succeed, or you better off waiting.
Urban Meyer at Ohio State was a grand slam hire and paid off with a championship. Bit you're right Josh, there's no one else besides those few you mentioned. I'm excited for A&M!
a moment from early in the show that shouldn’t go unnoticed: JP handles his War/Football comparison with real intention and class. doesn’t throw it around like a lot of lessor CFB mouths do. Sir, you always deliver with class and honor and intelligence. My hat off you. (go gators from gainesville florida)
Brian Kelly is more similar to what you're describing. Notre Dame to LSU was pretty good get. We'll see how he'll end up doing but was a proven head coach at a top school
These UGA vs. Bama {Smart vs Saban) are going to be the norm in the SEC for the foreseeable future. For the SEC title and then probably the CFP and National title implications. These programs are operating on all cylinders and will provide some the best match ups we will ever see going forward. Although they have already played for multiple championships (SEC and Nattys) I feel like its just the beginning of what will turnout to be one of the greatest rivalries in any era of college football.
Dude easy to pick that "Oklahoma State" pick when you are RIDING THE FENCE because You CLEARLY CHANGE THAT EARLY PICK to OKLAHOMA and ask people to ignore your Oklahoma State pick but to take Oklahoma as your favorite. Ironically you didn't mention that did you. You Flip Flop from Oklahoma State to Oklahoma then back to Oklahoma State and you dare to throw peeps under the bus for following your picks or for making fun of your picks...GROW UP DUDE
Love your show Josh and I think you are dead on in calling out idiot talking points, but do not go gloating about the XII championship game when you specifically recanted your prediction. Pick a lane and stick with it. I’m not going to give you an ounce of credit for that prediction since you walked it back. We love you too much to let you be hypocritical.
I have Oregon at No. 4. Yes, I am aware of the obsession with head to head .... but Washington had the Home Field advantage which nullifies the significance of the 3 point win. Against identical competition ,,, .... Washington escaped with a 2 point win against Oregon State, while Oregon demolish them by 22 .... Washington beat Arizona St. by 8, while Oregon beat them by 36 .... Washington beat Stanford by 9, Oregon again demolished them by 36. .... Washington beat Utah by 7, Oregon crushed Utah by 29 .... Washington beat Washington state by 3, Oregon dominated with a 24 point win Of course, next week's game will settle this but as with OSU / UM, I'm picking Oregon to win the game.
I'm kind of tired how every review about this game is about how 0hi0 lost, not how Michigan won. Like everyone just assumed that school down south was entitled to win. When in reality any idiot who paid attention to how Michigan and the other team played the same teams Michigan is a much better team. Cryin Day did his best to stack the field, and still couldn't figure it out. His team has been overrated since the beginning of the season.
It's wild before the season everyone on TV was predicting OSU too. How can you watch eother of these teams and not come to the conclusion Michigan is much better
Josh completely walked back his comments from the beginning of the year. Guy picks OSU to not only win against Michigan and win the big ten but to win the natty because of the “way they acted at big ten media day”. Now it’s “how guys act in suits really doesn’t matter”.
😮😮 Good on TXam to NOT HIRE Mark Stoops..that would had been a complete shitte show if that had happened. Kensucky can keep that C- graded HC forever as long as they want to maintain 8-4 or 9-3 or maybe a 10-2 every 5 years or so just enough for him to get a million dollar extension again. Kensucky will NEVER WIN a SEC Championship at all with Stoops EVER. 😮😮
😮😮 Ironically you always make fun of Rice..seems Alabama gas never BEAT Rice at all. Alabama being the only CFB team that historically just could never beat Rice.😮😮
The only thing I don't like about the blohio/cheatigan game is that it's only so important because their conference is trash. Playing mid to terrible conference teams all season just to have a mini super bowl is really not worth it. Glad that changes next year. Won't be surprised if cheatigan survives the ncaa issues and the pac12 teams stay good if blohio finally falls to where they'd be if they played an SEC schedule.
I hope OSU fires Ryan Day because it would be very funny. Every program thinks they are above becoming a mediocre team but everyone is one coach away from being what Florida, Nebraska, and Tennessee have become since their glory days
Food for thought … Washington has won 19 in a row, including Oregon twice, Texas in Texas, Arizona in Tempe, USC in LA with the reigning Heisman winner, two-time defending champ Utah, and Oregon State in Corvallis (where OSU was 17-1 at home) Winning is a skill
I have Oregon at No. 4. Yes, I am aware of the obsession with head to head .... but Washington had the Home Field advantage which nullifies the significance of the 3 point win. Against identical competition .... .... Washington escaped with a 2 point win against Oregon State, while Oregon demolished them by 22 .... Washington beat Washington state by 3, Oregon dominated with a 24 point win Of course, next week's game will settle this but as with OSU / UM, I'm picking Oregon to win the game. ESPN has Oregon w/ a 75.8% of winning on neutral field. The line is Line: Oregon -9.5
@@kevindepew8193I have to hand it to Pate. He saw a niche market and he snatched it up. No one in the sports media even really gives A&M a second thought (deservedly so) so when a guy with a platform like Pate starts making a point to talk about A&M the aggy fanboys flock to it like stink on you-know-what.
I have pointed out to all of my Clemson friends that had they gone to the portal and potentially taken a guy like James Turner from Louisville, they might be playing for college football playoff, ACC championship minimal.
@@williamwagner79 actually it's two in the last 20 yrs bro. Played for 3 more. How many other schools have played for 5, and won two this century? It's a very short list. Clemson? Now that's funny. That only makes sense to the elementary math students 😆
@@lawrencematthes8948 Math is a funny concept right? Ohio State's last 3 recognized National Championships 2014, 2002, and 1970. So two national championships in 52-53 years. Mathin is hard aint it.
@@lawrencematthes8948 You want to hear something even funnier? You laugh at the Clemson comment but they have more national championships in the last 50 years then Ohio state according to the NCAA. 😅😅😅😅
Steve Spurrier and Jimbo Fisher were considered somewhat of a grand slam at the time they were hired. Both won national championships at previous programs. Meyer to Ohio St.
I guess the point is that we’re saying those splash hires being a couple a decade (if that). Probably not a high enough clip to expect a splash hire or bust for A&M
Texas HC in Mack Brown at first we hated that he was 1-5 against OU at first. If we had let him go out down turn would’ve happened sooner n we wouldn’t have won in 2005 n had one of our best 5 years in history from 2005-2009 if we had done what I’m sure a lot of fans wanted
In regard to Michigan, I see no difference between this year and last year’s team that couldn’t beat an outmanned TCU team. The playoffs will not be played in the cold, playing ball control won’t win them a national championship.
As a Buckeye fan who overacted and called for him to get whacked last year, I have a new appreciation for Day. This was a game that a few breaks was the difference. Just happened to not go his way. His team showed toughness I hadn't seen from the Bucks in quite a while. Michigan won the ground stats, but only because the early turnover allowed them to play with the lead. A side note on that early interception. Am I the only one who noticed that Harrison made little to no effect to go after the ball? He seemed to make a formidable effort to avoid contact though. One overlooked skill of a receiver is the ability to play defense and prevent bad throws from being interceptions. Very disappointing to see that. And it put his team in a deficit it never recovered from.
You are not the only one. I’m a sane Michigan fan and I love Harrison he’s the real deal but that was the first thing that came to my mind real time. If he can’t break it up he’s got to make the tackle. Rooting for him in the league.
Pate has some of the best takes in college football. He did say earlier this year his Okie ST take was a bad take after they lost to South Alabama. Come on man don't defend this. You sold and now you are all on board. All respect, Vols by 90.
Josh, are you going to act like you didn’t recalibrate your prediction to Oklahoma after you thought your Oklahoma State prediction went down the drain? We keep receipts too.
Josh, love your point on the “grand slam hire” but I would argue there’s a few more than ones that u missed, Urban Myer from FL or OSU, Jimbo from FSU to A&M, and kinda Mack Brown from Texas to NC.
id argu jimbo was chased out of fsu cause a lot of fans were happy he was gone and thought he was not the guy without winston... i guess that was true but the replacements were not there either til norvell. but urban was retired for health concerns a few years prior to ohio st and unc isnt a similar tier as texas.
If anybody thinks Ryan is even CLOSE to a hot seat needs to have their brain seriously evaluated. That man isn’t even in the same state.. hell he’s not even in the same time zone the hot seats located.
Dude let's be honest: 3 years of not beating Michigan in a row(including getting blown out at the shoe) 3 years of not reaching the b1g championship in a row, and 2/3 years of not reaching the playoffs AT ALL(and let's be honest, it took Clemson, Tenn, Texas choking for yall to clinch that 4th seed last year) the ONLY reason realistically he isn't on the hot seat is because the CFP overcompensated and added 8 playoff teams next year. If it was still 4 teams you and I both know that the regents would can his ass!
