The acting, the direction, the story, all of it is so much better than a low budget movie deserves. It's amazing.

Both Jack and Lilly’s actors killed it, her just staring into the camera was so unsettling

My impression was he made a deal in The Grove for fame and ended up sacrificing his wife's life. That's why the demon knew him and had been saying his name. I think the demon's end goal was to get on the air. I loved the ending. It was like he thought he was hypnotized, and that's why he was saying, "Dreamer here, awake" in an effort to "wake" himself up from the hypnosis. Unfortunately, it was the reality that he killed Lily.

I just watched this earlier this evening. Jack made a deal at the Grove (which, IRL, is actually a club called the Bohemian Grove). He wanted to be famous. In the end, he paid with his wife's life. Obviously, this show would have finally helped me beat Johnny Carson. Then you hear the sirens at the end. Jack would be blamed for the four deaths and probably get the death penalty. So now, he's infamous.

I've liked this actor ever since The Dark Knight.

The second time I watched it the ending came together for me. Especially when someone reminded me that “dreamer here awake” was the way the skeptic brought Gus out of his trance.

Dude my best friend got hypnotized in Vegas and I’ve never seen him cry, not once since I was little and the hypnotist told him he lost his belly button and can’t find it and my friend BAWLED his eyes out in a panic running around on his hands and knees looking franticly for his belly button ! He d NEVER act that way, his really shy and quiet , and tears were flowing when I’ve never seen them before , it’s real for sure! He swears still today he didn’t fake it becasue he doesn’t remember anything from the moment hypnotized until he snapped and came back .

I swear that is Michael Ironside doing the narration at the beginning. Loved this film...great reaction as always Rob. Just looked it up, it was Michael Ironside.

As soon as they said he was involved in The Grove I knew I was going to like this movie. His show is even called, 'Night Owls'... love those little details. David Dastmalchian is amazing as always. And Michael Ironside's opening narration, f yeah! Great reaction as always. (You're right, those hosts back then were totally drinking.)

The best horror film of the year (so far).

This one impressed the heck out of me. Part found footage doc, part satanic panic, part late show satire. When it goes off the rails in the finale I had the biggest grin (until the visions of what Jack did comes crashing in and flips the movie 🙃) Loved the subtlety in David's performance. His face work whenever something weird is going on always had my attention. The possessed girl was super creepy too, even before the possession.

A film that you could react to and GHOSTWATCH (1992), a film marked an entire generation in the 90s, due to its realistic tone and sinister moments, including one of the first films to use Found Footage, it's worth checking out.

This was such a good movie. Im so glad that I went to go watch it at the movie theatre by myself on a Thursday morning at around 10am lol it was such a creepy ambience especially since there were only three other people in the movie theatre. I think one of my favorite things about this was the play with aspect ratio and the color; when the width of the image on our screens changes, it holds genuine meaning to the film and I thought it was a really unique thing I hadn't seen from the found footage genre before, and I've seen way too many of these. Really fun watch, always love your videos.

OK just watched your reaction. The Grove in this is mimicking the actual Bohemian Grove near Monte Rio, California that is real where elites go and there have been men in cloaks and a giant owl statue as well. It's pretty secretive which is why it's impressive this movie brought it to light. But yeah, if you do a google image search of The Bohemian Grove, you'll see what I mean. The ending implied that while the TV host was at the Grove in the beginning, he sacrificed his wife to the devil for fame which he got for a short period of time and she died with cancer. That's why the devil knew him when he was talking through the girl. I think they could have had a better way of showing that to be honest where they're being more direct with it in that dream state of his. BTW, was it just me who found it funny that the skeptic was offering that demon his check before he died lol.

You missed one, the demonic face pop out on the screen. The last scene was devil tricks on him ended up stabbing the girl.

Imagine people sitting at home watching this and just see it cut to stand by and is just saying to themselves " guess we're not getting that sequel😐"

This movie actually leans heavily into conspiracy theories about secret societies. The grove in this film is actually directly influenced by the real life bohemian grove which is in the same location in Cali where very famous and powerful people attend as a “club” so many theories surround that. Basically the jist of the current conspiracy theory is that in order to reach a certain level of fame you have to sell your soul to the devil and in order to do that you have to sacrifice something. Jack probably couldn’t go through with the sacrifice so the devil or demon gave his wife cancer to make it more of a “mercy” sacrifice where she basically asked for it. But as legend has it when you make a deal with the devil it doesn’t always go as planned, hence yes he did become the highest rated late night show but at the cost of several lives as well as his own since he is now probably gonna get the death penalty. Oddly enough, in the film there’s a lot of owl references and in the real bohemian grove there are actual owl statues that the club members have been exposed to worshipping and is known as the deity/demon Moloch you can watch several RU-vid videos that dive into the mystery about the grove.

ive watched this 3 time already lol such great acting , the twist at the end wowed me , wasnt expecting that . great horror ive seen so far

I saw the movie last night & had quite fun with it. Personally I found so many real life history easter eggs; Obviously the girls cult siege was inspired by the Waco siege & possibly some Jamestown stuff. The cult leader himself was definitely inspired by the Satanist Anton LaVey whom often was seen in a devils costume & perhaps some Aleister Crowley sprinkled into that one aswell. The ceremony in the forest must be inspired by that place in the woods which photo/vid has been going around for years online, about some ritual in the woods by some big statue with rumors of sacrifice by the rich & powerful. Hypnosis was a big talk back then so only natural they would use it here aswell. The psychic guy at the start is probably a mix between claimed psychics like Lorraine Warren & Uri Geller whom both was in the media around that era, with quite a bit of controversies surrounding them, which also leads me to think that the host himself was semi inspired by the Amityville guy whom murdered his family claiming spirits, the devil, made him do it, with how it ended. The skeptic I believe is based on James Randi. a stage magician, author and scientific skeptic who extensively challenged paranormal and pseudoscientific claims & a frequent quest on The Tonight Show Starring Johnny Carson. He offered 1 million dollars to whomever could prove their claims true. He held on to that money all they way up to his passing in 2020. As for the possessed girl I think she is inspired by a mix of Regan from The Exorcist but also real life Anneliese Michel, claimed to have been possessed but also the young girl Genie, also known as the feral child. She had nothing to do with paranormal, however, I believe the doctor that took care of Genie may have been the inspiration for Dr June Ross, as Genies dr not only took care of her but also did experiments, analysis etc it was a whole debacle really on how Genie should be taken care of etc. Now Im not sure if these are actual easter eggs/inspirations but these was the first ones to pop to mind as I watched the movie just from my own knowledge/memories of things that happened back in the days lol 🙂

I agree with your rating (B+ to A-), I’d say this is an 85-90% for me. Loved it so much. I have some questions about the end and whether it “really happened” or not (mostly because of how the aspect ratio was used throughout the movie), but those questions take nothing away from the movie as a whole. It’s nice seeing someone talk about this movie without mentioning the AI controversy too. It’s a HUGE discussion, and a small movie like this absolutely does NOT deserve the criticisms that should be directed at larger studios.

Old school Conan was the best! Member the alien montage.

I really enjoyed this one as well. As for the end I thought it was just the demon showing him all he did and then tricking him into killing his host. I did love the skeptic, especially at the end when he was saying he will worship Abraxas and do his unholy bidding them offering the 500k.

Lilly is played by Ingrid Toreli. I would like to see her in the Teen Titans movie as Raven or Jinx. If they were to do the first Royal Flush Gang from the Justice League animated series, she would be great as Ace.

Hey Rob how you been? Been busy myself so I haven’t been keeping up with your reactions but when I saw this one I was like I gotta get to that lol. Btw did you ever get the chance to watch the movie I told you about awhile back Ghost Stories (2017)? Dallas is checking it out tonight and I’d love to hear your thoughts if you did. Saw this in theaters and mostly enjoyed it. I thought the story and setup was great and felt like an extended VHS segment. Only thing I didn’t love was the special effects at the end but I can overlook it.

Okay finished the reaction & a few things first off I actually took a hypnotist class at night school when I was a teen & it was crazy!! Some people went right under and it was pretty cool listening to what they were experiencing but I couldn’t go under. We learned that certain minds are assessable & some are not so it doesn’t work on everyone. Second things.. guess just 2 😂 is I love this movies aesthetic as well and thought it was a fresh concept ! We seen haunted house, possession& creepy nun movies enough time but I can’t remember a movie where the devil shows up on live tv! Really well done 8/10 🎉

The Grove reminds me of The Skull and Bones Society and all those other "secret societies" out there.

There are a few zombie movies that I'm surprised that you haven't ever reacted to, Night of the Living Dead, the OG from 1968, Dawn of the Dead from 1978, aka my favorite zombie movie, also one my top 5 horror movies of all time, and Day of the Dead from 1985, all three are classics, and you should check out some time

Reminds me of Nefarious ( 2023 ) in the sense i had never seen a movie like it before . It was so good but the ending just could have been a little better .

Great movie, great ending, for a late night with the devil. The devil twisted his mind and turned him into a murderer and all his dreams of glory are shattered , what else is there to add?

I agree about the ending, it's not bad by any means, but it broke the format and made things unnecessarily confusing. Still immediately becomes a top notch Halloween movie. My favorite cursed broadcast style found footage is still the X-Files/Cops crossover episode.

The only thing I frowned on was the ending. I wanted it to end, the way it began. As a documentary, being narrated and filling in the gaps regarding what eventually happened after that last scene because that's how all documentaries end. They don't just stop abruptly. If it wasn't a documentary, then I'd just accept it as it is, a found footage we the viewer get to see, raw and in it's totality.

Yea hypnosis works, just not on everyone and you have to be in a sober state of mind for starters.

I actually wasn’t too keen on the ending either. After a second watch it was better. Good film, great aesthetic but a little bit overhyped.

This is a fun movie. And I hope other projects are encouraged to go in new and interesting directions. But like… a lot of this movie felt very derivative. Particularly the exorcism and cultist parts. Idk, this almost feels like Skinamarink to me, in the sense that… it may have been better, artistically, as a series of internet short films instead of a feature length movie attempting analogue horror. My two cents.
