Thank you so much for sharing your experience!! I JUST got diagnosed with latent TB this week and this video has definitely helped me calm down and get a better piece of mind about the journey ahead of me.
I was just diagnosed! I must have picked it up during clinicals while in nursing school. I appreciate you making this video to share your experience, it made me feel much better about my future outlook!
I was diagnosed with Latent TB a few months ago, and I’m super nervous to start the medication. This video really helped thank you so much. I don’t feel so alone anymore ❤️
I am a nurse and just tested positive latent (Gold positive, x-ray negative) in Dallas Tx. Started Isoniazid last week for 6-9 months. Feeling ok. Just wish I knew where exactly I got it.
I am from Ottawa, Ontario Canada. I am a nurse here, and they required me to do a tb skin test for work, and boom.. It was positive. I also did a quantiferon tb blood test, and boom positive again. I got no symptoms at all, clear chest xray. I went to a infectious disease doctor and was diagnosed with Latent Tb infection. I finally started my rifampicin 600mg once daily treatment (5/9/23) For 4 months. I am very anxious since it is my first day of treatment. 😢😢😢😢. But I am glad that I was able to find your video in RU-vid. We need to remove the stigma about latent tb infection because most people have no idea that we are not infectious at all
@@DominickDecocko So from my understanding of what my doctor told me, (this was a few years ago so there could be some future improvements that I’m not aware of) there is no true/real way to test if Rifampin actually fully got rid of the latent TB. For example, some people may test positive on the blood test for the rest of their life regardless if they took Rifampin. However, Rifampin significantly decreases your chance of the latent TB (if there is still some left) of reactivating. My doctor mentioned if you have a higher risk of being exposed to active TB then you should get treated with Rifampin. Mainly because there’s a chance your latent TB will re-activate when exposed to active TB. So, I think it just depends on your specific situation, job (like if your in healthcare or volunteer in areas with a higher risk of active TB), and obviously your tolerability to this antibiotic/ any health problems. I hope this helped!
Hi, I just got told I tested positive for Latent TB only because I took a quantiferon test to get into dental hygiene school! Crazy how I wouldn’t have known if it weren’t for this test. I’ve been so scared about the whole situation but watching your video has made me feel so much better! So glad you made this to help guide us and give us an insight of what your experience was like. I plan on taking Rifampin for 4 months as well by the end of this month. I hope I don’t risk myself by waiting until the end of this month but I have a trip planned and want to be able to celebrate my birthday without the worry of feeling bad from the side effects, no alcohol, and reducing my birth control. lol I do want to ask, did you take two pills at a time in the morning with/without food or spaced them out? Also would you take probiotics every day after taking the pills?
Hi! I'm glad my video helped! I honestly had a good experience with everything, so I hope you do too. Haha I totally understand and happy early birthday!! I took them separately, so one in the morning and one a few hours after dinner. I believe that I took it on an empty stomach and I didn't have any problems. I took a probiotic every day but I took it at lunch, so in between the pills. Hope this helps!
Since the CoViD shots there has been a rise in TB. My friend, previously very healthy in his 20s, got the vaxx, and soon began getting sick more and more; now recently he was hospitalized and seems to have active TB. He probably had latent TB before.
I'm an adult girl like you. I was suffering from tb in 2020.. for the first time and was cured properly after taking 9 months long treatment though medicines. But just within 2 years I got my tb back and doctors told me that I've to take them (medicines) for the whole year means 12 months again. (I've gland tb... And in 2020 I got a gland surgery.. but with the second time gland tb, my neck gland is a little bit puffy but surgery is not needed now... Taking Medicines will be enough) I'm so tensed ... That it may back again after completing my treatment?? I'm from Asian country. Indeed, Allah Subhanahu Owa Taa'ala has given us the disease and I believe only Allah can heal (Ash-Shifa) us properly. Hey girl you don’t understand how helpful this video has been!!❤️ I have been so scared to take my medication for the first time since I have seen some people talk about how horrible their experience was. But thank to you I took my first dose this morning I have been feeling very tired almost sleepy andwas wondering if you felt like that or if it did end up going away! I do start college back up in about a week and a half so I am just a little bit scared! But of than that I feel fine :)))
I just found out I am positive for Latent TB. I live in California and I get tested annually at work and for the 1st time it was positive. Chest X-ray negative. I went on a Disney cruise to Mexico 5 months ago, maybe that’s how I got it. Thanks for this video
I've got latent TB....I was going to go on the 3 month treatment but decided to not take it at the last minute since they wanted to have the pill intake observed by a medical professional....I found that to be an arrogant and condescending policy so I took my first months worth of pill back to them.
Oh gosh! Is that in the US? That’s pretty inconvenient if they wanted to observe that for 3 months. Maybe they have a rise in antibiotic resistance? Good luck with everything!
@@madisonbmcinnis Canada. They said they were going to change the policy and even make me the first to not have to follow it but by then I’d made up my mind
I recently found out I’ve latent tb I’ve an appointment with a pulmonologist 10/11/23 - I’m hoping he’ll test me to see whether my blood test was correct 🙏🏻
I was diagnosed 1 week ago with latent tb when I had my blood works done for a new RN job. I had positive gold tb test but my chest xrays results came back clear & normal. The Occupational Medicine Dept of the facility I'm working started me with a 12 weeks regimen. I'm nervous but I'm hoping everything will be fine.
That's what happened to me, too. I was negative on my xrays as well. I did the 4 months on Rifampin--best of luck with you! Everything ended up being fine besides a few side effects!
Thank you so much for this video Madison. I also received a positive latent TB blood results. I am stressing because I am also applying for an RN job and keep on wondering if that could limit my chances of getting a job somewhere else. Soon I will be without health insurance since the contract with my previous employer ended last month and I’m wondering how can I start treatment now. I came to the US two years ago from South Africa.
Finally, I was able to finished my 12 weeks regimen. Started Nov 11, 2021 and last dose was January 25, 2022. The MD/RN told me that my gold tb test will always be positive eventhough I finished the whole treatment. They gonna issue a medical certificate stating that I did the 12 weeks regimen course tx, just in case I need it for future jobs that I'll be applying to. So far, I never had any side effects during the course of treatment aside of course with the orange oops/urine.
@@Czech801 That's awesome! Glad you didn't experience any really bad side effects! My doctor told me I may always test positive too, even after finishing the antibiotic course!
Hlo...I m also diagnosed with latent..when I had my blood tests done for my RN job..now I m really to take these rifampicin tabs...by thinking about the side effects I'm too much scared to take those tabs...Kindly give Me suggestions.. what was your experience..
I just got diagnosed with latent TB after a required screening for my school registration. I'm honestly really scared because my immune system has always been weak.
i'm so sorry! hopefully all goes well with whatever treatment you go with or if not. but your immune system has to be somewhat strong to keep your TB latent, so you got it !
So yea just found out abt this...here I am trying to stay safe from covid and somebody sneezed somewhere...im over it smh..best of luck and prayers for you...im watching your vids..signed a melanin sister💜 update: I start treatment Feb 18th..fingerscrossed😷
I'm suffering from lymph node TB. I'm having anti tuberculor treatment from 9months.just 3 months back again my lymph nodes were enlarged and doctor found pus from those nodes.Even after that lymph nodes are burst and now I'm dressing my wound from 3 months.Doctors upgraded my medicine But still my wound isn't going to heal at all. 🥺
I am currently on rifampin as well for latent TB. Started a week ago 600mg everyday. Been experiencing mild confusion/disoriented and dizzy. Should I be worried?
Hi!! I'm so happy to find you channel. I also got diagnosed with Latent TB yesterday and my doctor prescribe me a Isoniazid. I'm scared to take it thinking about the side effects :( How many antibiotic did you take? I read almost everyone taking the Rifampin and not Isoniazid :/
Hey I'm glad you found this video! I only took Rifampin and I did not have too many side effects. I'm sure your antibiotic will be similar. Are you taking it for a longer time period?
I’m 52 but was diagnosed 11years ago and not told. I had the 3 week regimen and I feel near death at the end. ms and other autoimmune disease. I’m a bit angry…not at you but doctors and the way I was treated and not told about what I should be doing while on these chemo antibiotics.
Nice video, I have the same experience that’s you! I got positive in tb blood test and my x-rays, they were good, so they told me I have an infection only. I started taking the treatment for 4 months( rifampin), in the three first days I felt lazy, dizzy, tired, I took it in the morning at 7:10 a.m everyday. According to your experience, do you feel that way all the treatment? I would like to know more about it. Thanks for your video 🙏
Hey Juan! Yes, I had the same experience. Thankfully, I only really experienced the fatigue the first few days when taking it. Although at the very end of the 4 months, I did have an experience where I broke out in stress hives. However, besides that, I had a good experience. Good luck and stay healthy!
I just found out I have LTB and I start treatment in a week. I found out because I tested positive for an autoimmune disease and they can’t start treatment of that until I have at least four weeks treatment of the TB.
Was recently diagnosed with latent TB. Ive been freaking out but your video helped alot. How long did you go from getting your diagnosis to getting on a treatment? My doctor doesnt seem to think its urgent to immediatly start treatment.
Hey Jordan! I started treatment pretty soon after. Was there a reason they wanted to wait to start it? Although if it makes you feel better, I think I went at least 3 years undiagnosed with latent TB. Then randomly was diagnosed and started treatment.
@@madisonbmcinnis Hi, just asking, is this drug rifampin will kill me?.. the reason i ask becouse i heard so many bad news about it. Like the liver will taxicity and the kidneys will collapse, and the heart will not pomp enough oxigen. I am scare becouse i just did my skin test and come out positive but my X-RAY come out clear...hmmm... i'm new at this, and also scared😢😢😢. I just reverse my diabeties with ketogen8c diet since last year and now i don't want to mess it up by end up with neopharaty again. I dont eat carb, sugar or grains at all. Will i gain weight on this medication?. Just asking sweety, becouse i notice you talk much clear than my own doctor. Thankbyou if you reply😘😘😘
@@luciavasile2895Some people have different side effects in Rifampin ( orange color urine, some women delayed their periods, rashes) Some people gain weight during their rifampin medicine if you eat proper diet. Just drink lots of water to wash off those toxins due to the medicine and to prevent from liver and kidney damage
The doctor told me my right SI joint is infected with TB and there's a bulging disc at L4/5. My blood test came back positive. He recommended another skin test involving a needle or skin tissue removal. I just turned 20, and I feel shattered and helpless. I asked him about physical therapy, but he kept denying it and didn't prescribe any antibiotics. It's been over 12 months, and the pain returns if I stop taking the inflammation medicine.
I feel like I never really noticed it! All of my side effects resolved a month-a few months after. I had some neuropathy in my hands, but that was the most extreme thing I noticed.
My husband diagnosed as latent Tb with chest X-ray clear and no symptom . Now required to apply as dependent PR in australai. I am worry. Pls give advise . Tks
I’m so sorry that you had to hear that message of ‘rarity’ from a trusted provider. LTB isn’t a rare occurrence in the United States. If anything, it’s ignored & written-off as “no big deal”. I hope you’re feeling much better & on the path to a fab career!
I am from Croatia and have latent TB but in my country the latent one is not treated. Here we do get vaccinated against TB but before the vaccination they always do the skin test. I would always have a reaction so they wouldnt vaccinate, just had to do an X-ray then and it was always clear. I later did a Quantiferon test and it was positive. My mom and my grandfather both had TB (my grandfather had it twice, the second time it was the drug resistant one) and they were treated and cured. My mom has liver damage due to the strong medicine she had to take. Its always a risk that mine would become active but its a policy here that its not treated if it isnt active as most people here are vaccinated against it
Oh wow, that's super interesting how other countries' healthcare handles it differently. It's good that they are both okay and that you are too! Best of luck!
My side affects were pain the the upper right quadrant, left side pulsating headache, tingling and aching on my body and night sweats anybody experienced this similar symptoms as I did ?
On meds now due to catching it from a inmate upon intake. Mine has been neuropathy, night sweats, some brain fog, headaches and disrupted sleeping patterns. This is month 2 with 2 more to go. This wasn’t the medication my dr. wanted, but the only one that could be sourced due to supply chain issues. Some days are better than others, but I can’t wait to get off of this med.
I just got diagnosed with Latent TB. I had a positive PPD test, but my lung x-rays came back clear. I have to have 4 months of Rifampin and I'm a little scared of the side effects. But I know treatment of this is important. Hopefully it will go okay.
Hey! I totally understand where you are coming from--I was a little nervous at first, too. I actually just finished my antibiotic and now I am TB free *or so they think haha* I really didn't have any problems on it, except the last week of it, I broke out into stress hives--so hopefully that doesn't happen to you! I did blood work after and everything is perfect with my levels. So, hopefully this can give you some ease!
@@madisonbmcinnis Congrats on completing it. So, other than stress hives, did you experience any of the other side effects they listed? Like the skin, body fluid, teeth staining etc? I took your advice though, and went out last night to get probiotics, as well as some immune support and milk thistle for liver support. I think it will definitely help like you said. I'm glad to hear it went fairly okay for you though. Thank you so much for the reply. xx
@@ilianam453 I did experience smaller symptoms! I did have facial flushing a few times not bad. I never cried orange tears; however, my eyes would get really darker - like they just weren’t white/clear. Within two months, I had slight neuropathy in my hands when I would wake up in the morning. My doctor said it wasn’t anything related to the medicine, but I never had neuropathy any other time in my life. So, maybe it was related I’m not really sure! But all is well now! Good luck!!
Oh gosh yes it can definitely be a little worrisome when taking any medication for a while. I didn't really have any side effects until the last week of taking it. So, you never know!
Thanks for sharing your story. I’m in Australia 🇦🇺 and I also have latent TB. I have also been prescribed the 4 month Rifampicin regime. So far no side effects and I’m quite well. I don’t know anyone else that has latent TB.
It didn’t change my hormones, I just had a slight allergic reaction at the very end-mild stress hives. But definitely discuss it with your doctor. I want/wanted to go into medicine, so I would be more exposed to active TB, which they said could re-activate my latent TB. That’s the main reason I went on the medication!
my 8 year old was diagnosed with latent tb, started on 4 month supply of refampin yesterday. So far she feels great, but pee is super orange, I just hope her teeth doesn't turn orange.
I stayed on Rifampin for 4 months. Other than, I got a small/mild stress hive on my arm the last week of taking it--I had no problem. I did feel a little sick/tired the first week taking it though!
Hello I was diagnosed with latent TB a few months .I take medicine myrin p forte in 59 days after that we change the medicine to small myrin porte till now I'm take myrin porte.this video really helped to me ..I ask how many months you take medicine for latent TB and what month you do the test again for negative for latent TB .
Hi! I took my medication for 4 months! My doctor did not test after because some people still test positive for the rest of their lives regardless of treatment. I would have to have an xray instead of the blood test to ensure I don't have it / the active version!
@@ladylynalvarez7719 Oh that happened to me! I did a PPD test in August and it was negative, then in June I got a positive blood test. Then I started Rifampin for 4 months and finished the medication. My doctor didn't want me to do another PPD because some people will test positive forever even after treatment.
I believe you would need to do a chest xray showing everything is clear and maybe tell them that you completed treatment. I am not 100% sure, but I never ran into any issues with getting a job after!
