The government uses this stupid shtt to scream that they need more money from you in the form of taxes so they can keep the environment safe for all the homeless people they promised to get rid of.
Heartbreaking news. Been watching Chris work on the restoration of that ship - till politics interfered. Many subscribers to her channel are heartbroken!
Politics had nothing to do with it. He was in way over his head and didn't have the money. When rebuilding/ restoring a vessel, you start from the bottom up. Not the top-down like he did. He never put it into drydock because he didn't have the money to do it. Unfortunately, it's a wasted effort for those who gave their time or money.
@@MrDarcykampe Where is Chris? He owes us an explanation, how does the Aurura RU-vid channel just shut down, what about the volunteers that he had working on this ship?
I’m sure he had every intention of finishing the ship. However, he was in way over his head and his knowledge. He was fixing things on top of the boat while the bottom was rotting.
I visited the ship somewhat recently, and I knew she was in need of a proper dry dock refit. The ship had holes from corrosion right above the waterline. It was sooner or later, until someone brings her into a shipyard and replace the hull plates.
@@sirboomsalot4902 Restoration like in "buy a house, starting the "restoring" by fixing kitchen and bathroom without paying any attention to the leaking. and rotten roof".
@@sirboomsalot4902 The problem is they were restoring above the water line, and what needed to be fixed first was below. Of course that's easy for me to say.
Probably would’ve been very smart to get a ship surveyor to look at it before he started they can measure the hull and give good advice on whether it will last
It was the first ship of that size buildt in Germany after WW2, Blohm&Voss should buy it back and restore it to be displayed in the Hamburg Museum harbour (the original Name was "Wappen von Hamburg")
Shame to see all that time, work and effort go to waste. Suspicious how it sank so soon after the ownership transfer. Seems the previous owner would not have made the restoration attempt if the hull wasn't sound to start with.
Well, He restored parts of the inside and the Deck, but never bothered about the underwater hull during the 15 years He owned the ship, should have gone to drydock long ago
It is a bit sad, the old owner could not fix/repair/restore as fast as the ship decayed and finally ran out of finances and motivation, a new owner without any understanding about the state of the ship jumped into buying it and apparently did not take measures to 24/7 surveillance regarding water intrusion and a way to remove eventually water, you even need this on brand new boats. The ship needed at dry dock, sand blasting, and then an thorough investigation of the state of the hull, and the result may very well be that it is too expensive to fix the hull, and to come to this conclusion will cost a lot of money. I would not be surprised if it would had turned out to be cheaper to build a new hull than to repair the existing one, sorry.
Just watched helicopter footage, there is another ship, not the tug - that's sunken right next to it.. What is this, don't they have a bilge alarm system? It doesn't freeze there and they were just working on it a few months ago.. Doesn't make sense..
If you go back in the restoration videos that large sunken ship along side is still there. I ask the same question what is the name of the ship? Seems to be such a waste.
@@bnln1939 the other question is why chris wilson would have sold this after starting a whole movement to restore it and youtube channel.. wasn't he living on the ship, using it as his home before?
@@benzproducts Money is the answer, Chris was running out of money/time/motivation/enthusiasm/etc. He had properly been told many times, over the years, by people that understand old ships, that the condition of his ship was "bad" or as a minimum "questionable" and that he need dry dock, sand blasting, and a thorough investigation of the state of the hull just to get a realistic estimate about the state of the ships hull, that is very expensive, and it is money you will not be able to get back if the condition turns out to be bad. The line of car/ship owners that had done a thorough investigation of the state of their thing and then realized that it was way more bad than they had hoped for is long, very long, the line of those that just hoped "it will be ok, I will just go on fixing it step by step" and then suddenly the thing breaks into pieces, is even longer. Old used cars is bad, old used ships is even more bad, the numbers of dreamers is endless, unscrupulous used car/ship salesmen's make a damn good living from these dreamers.
@@benzproductsHe was living on the boat. I suggest He just ran out of money and motivation after 15 years, saw the holes in the hull just above the waterline from corrosion and sold the ship ...
@@benzproducts According to recent Facebook posts, he continually ran into issues with county officials who constantly threatened to condemn the boat. he sold it to another person who had been working with him to restore the ship and had quietly moved on.
That's just tragic. I was hoping Chris would somehow actually manage to restore her completely: he made some big progress along the way. Hope this isn't the end of it.
Well, I guess that's the end of the line. She was a fixer-upper before, but now presumably all of her machinery spaces are full of water, engines ruined, electronics ruined, pretty much a death sentence.
there were no electronics, and they never fired up the engines, so nobody knows how it was. If I was being honest, its in the same shape it was in.... just 6 feet deeper in the water. Just tryna give you some encouragement............
@@davidanalyst671It was a diesel electric, there was plenty of old electrical equipment in the engine rooms. And they were planning on starting the engines, but they wanted to repair any rotted wiring first. But the engines, generators, and motors themselves were in decent shape, just needed maintenance, those would not like being submerged.
You really shouldn't be posting comments that alliterate this well with led zeppelin songs. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-la-zf2TgCjw.html
@@pforce9 It's a small vessel, so air bladders would be the efficient way to go. Pumping it out would require all the pumped water to be filtered, if the hull only has a few bad spots and is not swiss cheese.
Oh my God the media are so incorrect in their reporting on so many things this ship was never the inspiration for the love boat……….lol🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 Try the Pacific Princess.
I never understood why early on the ship wasn't dry docked for a thorough inspection of the hull and running gear. A lot of money and time was wasted on the above deck work when apparently the hull was not sound.
@@bradleymorris8875 do you have any evidence of this? Sure he was doing cosmetic work, but he said he didn't have enough money to drydock and work on the undercarriage.
They keep saying that the current owner is unknown. And the previous owner keeps giving interviews. Here's an idea: ask the previous owner who he sold it to.
Whoever gave permission for this ship to be docked there should be fired. It's a 70 year old 2500 ton ship that hasn't had any actual maintenance in at least 30 years, it was inevitable that it would sink at the dock sooner or later. Now the taxpayers are on the hook for the cost of cleanup and salvage. Not to mention that the ship is an "attractive nuisance", a place where homeless and vandals will be drawn to. Just complete incompetence on the part of the City Council. There is no insurance on this ship. It hasn't had a positive net worth in decades. Who would insure it?
Unless you're a multi millionaire/billionaire, nobody should be buying and "fixing up" big boats like these. There's 2 rotting ferry boats in Puget Sound, a huge barge from Expo '86 falling apart in Vancouver, BC and the sad ending of the ferry Kalakala all bought by people with "big plans".
Used to follow these clowns on RU-vid and would get snarky replies in making a few suggestions. Apparently they where cruise ship restoration experts just be because 1 guy knew how to weld 🙄
This ship is not the original love boat. The two cruise ship that was used during the filming of the show have been scrapped years ago and the names of the ships are Pacific princess and island princess. If you would of just googled the original love boat you wouldn't of used misleading information in your news video. But wait all news is misleading
“Restoring” ships is not for amateurs and shoestring budgets. It should have been turned into razor blades a long time ago. Its foreign built, was never jones act compliant and had no place in domestic work in the USA.
@@charlieruppert1423 the coast guard will follow procedures.
