A metal lathe would be on the top of my wish list. The work, cleaning, scrapping, sanding, priming, painting much less putting each segment of this well built machine back together is truly the results of a driven man. It is yours now, but this video is proof to your great grandchildren 45+ years from now, of a fraction of what you have accomplished. This something to be proud of. You have my respect and admiration for your efforts. Thanks for sharing with us. ASE Automotive Master Tech since 1978.
Amazing work Mateusz, great work scraping and prepping the “ways” of your lathe. This is considered an art that is slowly disappearing here in the US and the rest of the world. I hope you keep that lathe running true and square for the next 50-60 years.
This was impressive, fun, and inspirational - and the film itself was equally well done. At near 60 years old and in medical retirement, I've started my own very small machine shop as part of my rehabilitation from cancer, and my lathe is probably 1/5 the size! While watching this I had a memory of being in my 20s with a young wife and a new family of little children. We bought a very beat up looking piano for a very small amount of money. My friends and I had to get it into our house, which wasn't easy. But the memory is that I completely rebuilt a piano - something I knew absolutely nothing about - and succeeded because no-one told me I couldn't!! Watching you, I wondered if this was like the piano (except you seem to know your way around a lathe and machinery very well). Thank you.
@@VE427HDT 2:41 he did more than just paint it. Scaping in the ways isn't as simple as it looks. Easy to do a lot more harm than good if you lack the skill and patience to do it properly.
Cincinnati Ohio USA. Amerykanie dali w 1944 do ZSRR a oni przywieźli do Polski w ramach bratniej pomocy, ale oczywiście trochę zdekompletowaną. W 1960 mój wujek zakupił i uruchomił w swoim warsztacie. Wujek zmarł w zeszłym roku a mi pozostała tokarka, którą identyfikowałem w necie kilkanaście dni bo ciężko znaleźć tak stare tokarki. Moja jest pewnie gdzieś z lat 20-tych.
Very impressive. I consider myself fairly mechanically inclined and did a refresher on my own (much smaller) lathe. I'd probably have an aneurysm trying to do what you just did there. Awesome vid👍
It is a MAS Czechoslovakian lathe, many years ago when I was a boy I worked in a workshop that had a lathe just like that and I had to do a lot of work with it. It brought back very nice memories
Uuuhhhmmm, Marzenie! Wspaniała robota gaspadin!
When i look this short video... i wished im finished my lathe project so quick as you... :-( How long did you need for restoration and what Brand/Model is your lathe? Thanks for sharing!
Hello. I have seen similar lathe in this video too. But I don't know name of the maker because the lathe had been refreshed by Japanese company. Do you know lathe name in this video?
You ain’t shitin the shop I work at has a 30 foot long American pacemaker from the 40s. After running it for a few days it makes every other machine in the shop feel like a spongy piece of shit.
Very nice job. Should the new electrical switch have a mushroom head on the OFF button larger than the ON button ? This would be normal on new equipment in the UK. Regards Arnold
Yes indeed, they don't build Lathes like this anymore, think of all the machine work on this old job, I don't recommend this unless you know the machine inside out. too many small pins and fastenings, each having a purpose. This guy is a Hot Shot for sure.
AussieBlokeGordo would this help identify this engine lathe? www.homemadetools.net/forum/lathe-restoration-sn20-68023 Nice job cleaning it up! RL Buffalo, NY USA
Man, I wish I could do that. I would get it apart, cleaned up, put 1/4 of the way back together, and it would be that way for another three years and half the pieces would be lost.
I study engineering, we work in practice on many machines including a lathe. We have several modern machines with electrical sensors in the school. It makes work much easier and more accurate. However, we still have machines in the school that are 50 years old in good condition. they are Czechoslovak production (now Czech Republic and Slovakia) so I think they will still be here for a long time. What I mean is that these machines are a piece of art. Just an electric motor and lots of metal parts ... it's amazing to work on it, it has its magic. Rely on your head and hands and not on your computer. Very well done renovation work, well served! But you should measure the machine geometry!!! Thank you for reading and sorry for the English.
