LATINA REACTS to CHAVACANO vs SPANISH in the PHILIPPINES // THE CLOSEST TO SPANISH FOR SURE!! 

Its a Spanish creole using VSO instead of SVO in general sense. Its sometimes confusing to a native Spanish speaker to understand the grammar, but again more than 70% of Chavacano language use Spanish words so the general idea is there, though some words have totally different meaning in Spanish. Zamboanga Chavacano is closely associated with Mexican Spanish while Ternate, Cavite Chavacano use a lot of old Castillan words🙂 Zamboanga hermosa!

Well for Spanish speakers, Chavacano sounds interesting because approximately 70-80% of the words (lexicon) are in Spanish but the grammar is different because it follows the Austronesian language structure just like Tagalog, Visayan and other Philippine languages.

A lot of Filipinos think chavacano is only spoken in Zamboanga. It’s also spoken in Cavite City and Ternate Cavite.

I remember when I was in first and second year college, I had Spanish subjects, 101, 102, 201 and 202 with books Es Facil Leer, Es Facil Haber, Es Facil Escribir and Es Facil Comprender. I would really want a copy of those books again. Aside from Spanish subjects I had also Medical Latin. I hope they bring back Spanish, or maybe an option language subject that students can choose. Im sure lots would pick Korean now lol

Thank you for your RV once more. I admire your effort and enthusiasm in learning the languages and culture of the Philippines. For me, I grew up in Pasig, so it was more typical exposure to Tagalog (where Filipino is more patterned to) and English. But in college, I have to learn 2 foreign languages since my course was in BS. Tourism. At that time what was offered was Japanese and Spanish. I am thankful for that phase in learning, helped me a lot understand basic grammar structure and one really must strive to enrich knowledge of vocabulary in any language being studied and the proper usage of it. From watching the video you reacted to, I see the usual style where Filipinos often would mix languages hence it evolves differently as time goes on. So in the Philippines, though it is safe to say a big majority can communicate in English, oftentimes it is mixed with whatever language or dialect is more colloquial there. So often we would speak Tag-lish. I remember the frustration of our professors in college because in the intent of being bilingual in both English and Filipino, the locals would do a shortcut and mix them. But we know in more formal settings, especially in office work, it is more advantageous to be able to speak straight English. But once you go to the many regions/provinces of the Philppines, be ready to encounter so many different dialects/languages. So the fallback language would be English. Before when I travel outside Metro Manila and I know there is a much different language or dialect being used, I try to ask first a local or a friend there the basic ways of greetings like how do you say Good morning, good afternoon etc..and very important, learn how to ask How much? 😀 Even when I studied the other foreign languages we started first with the basic greetings, the basic question words- Who, What, Where, When and How, then how to count, and as we get used to it more and more vocabulary like how to say the different colors, then how do you say this object and that object, then the grammar aspect which slowly delved into the various nuances of pronoun persons and the tenses of verbs, sentence structure etc. Of course nothing beats full immersion, got to keep using what one has learned. But it is fun learning, helps one to be very respectful of other cultures. I think my regret is I did not study more of the other dialects/languages around the Philippines, but I am still glad I am quite fluent in both English and Filipino, it did help in our adaptation when we moved to North America. There was a time I got hired because they saw in my resume I speak a little Japanese, turns out it was because the company owner was Japanese and they have an assembly line of older Japanese women. So it all depends on whatever work environment one can utilize ones language skill set. And if I may add, as you learn Filipino language, we also somewhat follow the third person polite way of speaking. That is why you were told to use the word Kayo, like the ustedes word usage in Spanish. And usually it is polite to use the word 'po'..especially if you are addressing someone who you really do not know yet or as a blanket greeting while on broadcast...like you will say Magandang umaga po . It is just an expression of respect. Some may drop it if they are talking to their peer or already close friends, some even just greet casually in English already, since that is accepted practice already. As far as I know, Chavacano was created during Spanish era, so that Spanish priest cannot understand purely, it's a communication between local Filipinos during revolution against Spaniard.🤓 During those time, even PASSWORD was First created by Filipino (Andres Bonifacio), not only that. Pyramid/Triangle Scheme was created by Filipinos in recruiting their members.

I think the girl live outside zamboanga for quite some time and must have forgotten chavacano language as some words doesn't have the exact meaning in chavacano. her "YA QUERE yo contigo" means i like you, not I love you. "understand" alone in chavacano is entiendes as well. "I understand" ya entiende iyo. "You understand" ya entiende to.

Over 300 years of Spanish colonialism but the majority of Filipinos doesn’t speak Spanish fluently,we mixed it with English and Tagalog.Only in Zamboanga do they speak Spanish or similar.But when the American took over from Spanish from the early 1900 up to the end of Second World War.Then English became our second language not the Spanish.

Chavacano in zamboanga is mix with cebuano words while cavite chavacano is mix with tagalog words.

Here in Cebu City, Philippines we have Colon Street same as your family name.

Chavacano conjugates Spanish verbs to the 2nd person, e.g., tener to tiene. Then they put a Ya or Ta next to it to change the tense. Zamboanga fill words are both Tagalog and Cebuano. I am a native of E. LA, but no hispanic, but obsorbed A2, B1 level, and I can also understand the Chavacano pretty well. Oh, and I am about A2 in Tagalog.

Hinay-hinay lang is tagalog. Tagalog is spoken in Metro Manila in Luzon and Chavacano is spoken in Cavite also in Luzon and Zamboanga in Mindanao. We have 170+ language in the Philippines. English and Tagalog is frequently used because Philippines is the 5th English Speaking country in the world.

"Puede tu abla hinay-hinay lang" Puede tu abla = sounds like spanish or Portuguese "Hinay-hinay" (slowly in english) but it is Visayan word for "slowly", spoken in Central Visayas, Western Visayas and Eastern Visayas (3 regions in the Philippines use the word "hinay-hinay" to say "slowly". But also spoken throughout the rest of Mindanao. lang - is a tagalog word to put emphasis on the preceeding word like the "hinay-hinay" in visayas and "dahan-dahan" in Tagalog. Lang is also a word spoken by Visayan-dialect-speaking-people from Eastern, Western, Central Visayas and the rest of Mindanao. Chavacano is very interesting indeed!

Chavacano has same words with Spanish but the sentence construction follows the tagalog/filipino language. That's why it feels weird for native Spanish speakers.

Cavite City is the birthplace of Chavacano, a spanish based language that has spoken by the lehitimo Kabitenyo’s of Cavite City and Ternate, Cavite. The reason why chavacano is dying in Cavite City? Because most of the lehitimo Kabitenyo’s migrated to the US because of the American base (Sangley Point) in Cavite City 1948-1971. Many people who are now living in Cavite City are no longer lehitimo Kabitenyo, some are bisaya, kapampangan, Ilocano and Bicolano. Compared Cavite City to Zamboanga,? Cavite City is a very small place you can tour the whole city in an hour using a bike. The Chavacano of Cavite City is far more closer to spanish than the Chavacano of Zamboanga.

Among the places in the Philippines , Zamboanga has the most Spanish speaking Filipinos. For 300 years we were colonized by Spain. Toma means to drink, it becomes part of Tagalog language. It's root is the spanish 'tomar'. Cheers word used in drinking, the translation in tagalog is 'tagay'😃✌️

Chavacano is only spoken in the southern part of the Philippines in zamboanga city ,so if you go to other parts of the country you use english or tagalog

actually, DESPACIO is also used in chavacano but for the older ones, the new genz only knows now some words that is originated from other philippines dialect, and sorry is PERDON also, older people always tells us to "PIDI PERDON" OR "ASK PARDON.
