Im also Filipino.,Flores de mayo is meant to honor Mama Mary..when i was young , for the whole month of May children from our community go to church every afternoon to learn chatechism,pray the rosary and offer flowers to Mama Mary.

It's also called as Santacruzan, not just Flores de Mayo. The Video shows a smaller version, and it was organized by one of the Barangays in the Province of Bulacan, but there are bigger and grand versions and celebrations of Santacruzan around the Philippines, usually in big cities, and in the National Capital Region.. They have youtube videos you can watch.

Santa Cruzan and Flores de mayo are different events… whilst Santa cruzan showcases the queens from the Bible except for Mary and culminates with Queen Helen or Reyna Elena together with the Santa Cruz and Constanino, Flores de mayo showcases the various titles of Mary from the litany of the Virgin Mary of Loretto. Flores de mayo can also be called as Flores de Maria

Flores de Mayo is a religious tradition to honor Mary, the mother of Jesus. Catechism is given to the children, the rosary is prayed while going around with lighted candles, some do floral offerings. On the last day, people dress up. We see children as angels, and dressed up in gowns; the dressed up children and young women dressed in a way to represent Mary's titles in the litanies. No contest. Song sung repeatedly: Dios te salve, Maria... the Hail Mary. For me, it is a very good way of honoring Mary through the children. Beautiful girls remind us of interior beauty too, the virtues of Mary.

during May we have two traditions that every place practice one is Flores de Mayo and other one is Santa Cruzan basically the same but different meanings Flores de Mayo is for Mary and Santa Cruzan is to commemorate the finding of Queen Helen to Christ's cross

Bulacan is a province that is about 50 kilometers in the north of Manila. The mayor with a group of planners scout and select women and young girls for the event usually held in the month of May which is about the month when summer ends. Some good looking young men are made to become escorts. It is some kind of pride to be chosen to be in participation. They will be paraded looking extra beautiful and dressed like queens or princesses or like the beautiful flowers of May. They are held every Saturday of May. The final event is on the last Saturday wherein, aside from the participants some of the Saints Statues are included in the parade making it an extra long and beautiful event. Like i heard you said they are done in many provinces and watched by many people including tourists.

There is also a competition of all the candidate of Flores d mayo . The woman with a dress they called that maria Elena. It like sagala. Then after that is Santa crusan.

Mexican Americans celebrate the Cinco de Mayo in San Francisco, Calf. every May in the Latin American Street Quarters of the city. It is attended & participated by all Latin Americans living in the city not only by Mexican Americans. I'm watching your video here in San Francisco, CA.

Every girl is representing a reina like reina empiatriz but most important is reyna elena About contest not so... it's organized by the church and they choose young females who can be considered most beautiful in every village, they talk to the parents and if they agree, their daughter will join the roast of participants. A month before the event each participant will solicit donations from families and relatives and friend...whoever could raise the highest amount is chosen as reyna elena As for the boys the girls prents are the ones choosing them...usually the participants sibling or cousin...if not from relatives, then the son of a close family friend or some other girls chooses their own crush but that seldom happens

Flores de Mayo and Santacruzan are different and distinct from each other. Flores de Mayo is a Tradition not only in the Philippines but almost all Catholic countries. Bicolanos being the most religious Catholics still celebrate Flores de Mayo the Traditional way. Many towns will setup altars to Mama Mary and children will bring flowers while singing Spanish hymns. Santacruzan used to be Tagalog Tradition and became popular all over the Philippines in the 1970s because of Television/ mass media. It is usually celebrated on the last day of May, reenacting the finding of the Holy Cross. They different, but many people now got confused.

@@bluewolf4789 festival of female saints? That's the reenactment of the finding of the True Cross..all the titles there are the titles of the Blessed Virgin Mary, Litany or Loretto. The only female saint there is Saint Helena, mother of Constantine I. "Santa or Reina Elena”

Flores de Mayo festival is a Catholic Religious Flower festival Celebration influence by the spanish colonialism in the Philippines, its a Celebration in honor of Queen Helen which is Reyna Elena in search of the Holy cross of jesus through hes son Emperor Constantine, Its a parade of Beautiful young ladies with several Queen Tiles Like Reyna Elena , Reyna emperatres, Reyna sentenciada etc etc the Parade tells the a story of Queen Helen journey in search for the holy cross of Christ with a child prince escort constantino, Its a Santacruzan a religious festival in honor of Queen Helen or Reyna Elena during the medieval catholic byzantine period...Celebrated during the month of may, in mexico they have the Cinco de Mayo festival but its more of a historical political celebration for the Mexican Victory over the French colonialism compared to the Philippine Spanish Flores de Mayo Santacruzan which is a Religious festival Catholic celebration.

Just want to correct the difference, "Flores de Mayo" (Flowers of May) is a tradition in the Philippines Honoring Mary the Mother of Christ, in flores de Mayo the "Sagalas" usually represent the titles of Mary (e.g. Queen of the apostle, Stella Maris, etc. ). While the "Santacruzan" is a philippine tradition to commemorate St. Helena's finding the Cross of Jesus and the "sagalas" represents historical figures in the bible(mostly women), virtues (e.g. Judith, the Samaritan women, Justice, faith, love, there is also Methuselah (the oldest man in the bible), and the last (Reyna Elena) is usually chosen by the community to represent Queen Helena with a Boy represent his son Constantine. Both procession have the the Blessed Virgin Mary in the end. This tradition is widely celebrated in the Philippines. There is another one which we call "Sunduan" but this one is mostly done in the Tagalog provinces in central luzon though I'm not sure if this one ends-up to represent the "sagala's" of Flores de Mayo.
