Cheb Khaled is very popular in France too! We just call him" Khaled" (in Arabic, " kh" is pronounced just like the spanish jota "j"). Actually, we don't really understand his lyrics but his rythm is so catchy that we love him! He is also very cherished because he is always smiling. This kind of typical algerian music is called "raï" music and is very popular in France too, but comes to an even greater success when we can understand the lyrics, this means when we have sentences in French in it. An algerian singer that have a very great success nowadays in France is Soolking (you reacted to him). We love him but I think his success of course comes because he is very talented, but also because we can understand his songs: Soolking sings in French but introducing a lot of Arabic in the lyrics. He is of course also very supported by the important algerian community we have in France, and is produced by a famous franco-algerian rapper (Sofiane) . I think in the past France have had an important cultural influence on Algeria, but Algeria has also now an important influence on France, especially threw the music. And when they need to, its singers are not afraid to express their opinion, which is also a good thing!

He was offered another hit called "Aīcha" by french author and composer Jean-Jacques Goldman who wrote, composed and produced some of the best selling albums recorded in French language by Celine Dion.

The percussion instrument is called "Darbouka" ? It's an instrument widely used in North Africa as well as in the Middle East (with a slightly different shape).

this music type or style is called RAI, the artist is Cheb Khaled (Cheb means Young) , so translated it would be : Young Khaled; he is very popular (you should listen to his song called aicha) where he's talking about freedom of the women . In English it’s called goblet drum (also chalice drum, tarabuka, tarabaki, darbuka, derbake, debuka, doumbek, dumbec, dumbeg, dumbelek, tabla, tablah, tableh, toumperleki, tumbak, or zerbaghali.
