LET ME SPEAK, I used to work as a speech trainor in a callcenter in the Philippines. I had had been asked many times by our Americans, Indians, Arab, British and Australian bosses and guests why are the Pinoy agents can sound like the foreigner callers they are speaking with during a call in intonation, pitch and accent in an instant. Many agents can sound like the Brits, then Canadians, then Australians, then AmericanS, then non-native english speakers speaking English, they make good english sounds as well bad english sounds similar to poor english speaking callers. And also, they were also surprised that during parties and gatherings every body can sing fair enough and a number of them can really sing better than the singers they have back in their home countries. They had asked me how and why. At first, I cannot give an accurate answer, thus, I did do research to give a believable and credible explanation. I found it, I found part of the answers. The answer is not in the Pinoys' vocal apparatus, but in use of their ears, in their ability to hear sounds, they listen sharply to sounds. The answer to the mystery is the ability of the Filipino to hear how they sound when they speak and sing. By being able to they can make adjustment to the sounds they make to conform to the sound they want to sound like. In other words, they can be a self critic, can gauge and evaluate how they sound both while speaking and singing. it is their sharp ability to hear themselves.
A man of many voices! A very seasoned performer, not known in the mainstream Philippines showbiz but can sing better than many other singers. He’s in the band for a long time, a very good lead guitar! Thanks to youtube, now a lot of people know him. Check him out more guys, he’ll never disappoint you!
Here in the Philippines all you need is a good singing voice and while singing to your friends, they ask you if u can do,, for example Mariah, Celine, Britney. LOL . Friends will tell you if you sounded like the artist. And often times thats how you knew u can. Even in speaking, we do american, british, aussies, indians, chinese accents, voice modulation and the pitch. Just doin it all for fun.
During my time his performance would be described as "plakado," referring to how close his performance approximated the original singer's delivery on the vinyl disk - a 33, a 45 or a 78 speed - which our generation knew as a plaka
THATS "THE FILIPINO FEELS" YOUR EXPERIENCING NOW HEHEHE, THERE ARE MANY DIAMONDS IN THE ROUGH IN THE PHILIPPINES, PINOY POWER!! GOD BLESS US ALL THANKS
You have finally reacted to my underrated idol Philip Arabit who is super talented. He can do Michael Bolton, Journey, Lionel Richie etc...AND, HE PLAYS THE LEAD GUITAR NEATLY.
Hi Waleska and Efra. Re the Filipinos' ability to impersonate other singers, it starts from childhood. Children here hear singing and music most of the time. They can carry a tune before they are able to speak. Another example: the children in the show Your Face Sounds Familiar (TNT Boys, Esang de Torres, etc.) had only 3-5 days to learn the songs and mannerisms of the singers assigned to them. The children were able to impersonate them very well.
I've been waiting this for so long.. When will you be reacting to his covers.... Thank you... Check on more of his covers.... Here is Mr. Philip Arabit himself in the comment section...
The band version of SB19's MAPA featuring Ben&Ben is flaming hot right now! I hope you can check it out. Also, the original version debuts at #48 on Spotify's Global Viral 50 Chart today, making it the first ever P-pop song to achieve such a feat. This is besides SB19 being the first ever Filipino act and Southeast Asian to enter Billboard Music Next Big Sound and was nominated at the Billboard Top Social Artist for 2021 alongside other nominees BTS, Ariana Grande, Blackpink, and Seventeen (BTS understandably won).
Thanks for reacting to Philip Arabit singing She Believes In Me...You'll be surprised how he so very well sings James Ingram Songs. he leads a band and he plays the keyboard and lead guitar.
Yes, in the Philippines there is much recognition and admiration for a singer or band that can copy exactly the voice and singing style of another famous band or singer. It is called "plakado" meaning "exactly like the plaka or recording " It is considered easier for a singer to sing in his own original style because it requires less study and practice than to copy another great performer's style or voice. Musical impersonation is a highly sought after art form, by both the musicians and the audience and is considered a tribute to the original singer who had become famous for his own personal style that is hard for many to copy or emulate.
Since the early 70s to the early 90s singing contests are a staple in the television industry here in the philippines. Record companies sponsor these as a way to promote a single by a foreign artist. This is how they make hits here. The grand champion usully gets stuck with the song and needa to learn other songs of the same artist as he/she gets invited to gatherings and public appearances. That i how they hone their talent covering an artist. Same sound same texture same everything.
You're wondering why many Filipino singers are good in "imitating" the voices of original artists, the simple answer is karaoke. Most Filipinos learn how to sing through karaoke. Music school is a luxury in the Philippines that most cannot afford. In karaoke party, you are considered good if you can imitate the exact voice and style of the original singer. In the case of Philip Arabit, he was a band vocalist who performed in bars, hotels, parties, where they usually sing covers requested by the audience. Same in karaoke, cover bands are considered good if they can sing as close to the original sound as possible. Even in singing contests, many contestants will try to do the exact sound as the original as possible. They just later on add their own style as their musicality matures. That's why KZ Tandingan was considered out of the norm singers having her own style and not belting.
Kenny Roger of the Philippines beautiful reactions guys. If you have not yet reacted to Eumee Capile try to react her cover of "Chandelier" on the wish bus, her style is amazing guys.
If you always sing the song of your favorite singer, your voice will become same the one you emulate. My Filipina co worker always singing Celine dion songs, now if she sing she sounds exactly the voice of Celine.
I think I've read or heard it somewhere the reason why Filipino singers are so good in imitating foreign singers is because it's a way to promote the original singers songs in PH before. I mean, it's hard to get a copy of the original vinyl or discs way back and to be played in radios. So yeah.
yeah, that's right efra and waleska. Usually before when we sing and we didn't sound like the original singer people will not like it. I think just recently it was changed - to sound original.
