Honestly I don’t think you can really use K-pop MV view counts to determine popularity anymore. Fandoms streaming is the norm. They set goals now. It can’t show any accuracy about how many people actually watched it at least once due to interest. There are so many videos on RU-vid to show the most popular MVs of the past years and they just go off of view counts as of a recent date. They’re so inaccurate.

Fantagio, the company Astro is from is primarily an acting company. It's a very small company and actually almost went bankrupt back in 2017. They are doing better now but I still wouldn't call them a big company. They basically have no power in the Kpop business market. I think Efra really likes Astro the way he was eager to know which company they are from. I hope you will do an Astro special episode. We will be waiting 💜

Teen Top were among one of the first kpop groups I got into! They're nearer the end of 2nd generation since they debuted in 2010. I think some great songs to listen to from them are To You, Missing, and I'm Sorry. Their most popular song in Korea is probably Miss Right. I think B1A4 would also be a great group to check out in that first timers podcast since they also debuted near the end of 2nd gen (2011). A lot of their songs were composed by their leader Jinyoung and he is in my opinion one of the best producer idols in kpop. Songs I would recommend you react to are Sweet Girl (especially if you love a guitar solo), A Lie and Tried to Walk. Their breakout hit song in Korea was called What's Happening and is also a fun listen, frankly they're one of few groups who never put out a title track I disliked so you can't really go wrong with them.

Soloists like Kim Wooseok and Kang Daniel are always famous and have insane views, they (and a good majority who go solo now) are usually people who were in a group before but ended up on disband (the case of wakeone company groups)

Infinite were actually a top 5 boygroup of their prime despite not being from the big3. I honestly encourage you guys to check them out. Both bsides and title tracks are phenomenal. They use lots of orchestral instruments and 80s synths (this was before it even became a trend) in their music.

Infinite was the reason I deep dived into KPOP a few years ago after stumbling on them by accident here on RU-vid due to auto play watching Blackpink videos (the only Kpop group I knew.) Very underrated yet still popular for their time, especially for not being from the BIG 3. Their songs The Eye and Back are my 2 most played songs and member L, who is also a popular KDrama actor, remains my ULT bias.

Yeah X1 were apart of produce x 101, they only lasted for 5 months though and the agencies decided to disband them because of some shady stuff that was exposed from the produce series.. its a shame though bc this lineup was my fave and these boys are so talented and meshed well together :( They're all part of groups or soloists now though (you may know woodz, he was part of x1 and he's a great soloist)

You guys should totally check out TEEN TOP and INFINITE. They were like the Monsta X and Seventeen back in 2010-2014. They were very well known groups that didn't come from big labels. Infinite was Woollim's first boy group that did EXCEPTIONALLY well for a small label and TEEN TOP came from TOP Media (founded by Shinhwa's Andy) and they did VERY well too. These two groups had very contrasting concepts (TEEN TOP being young and had somewhat "brighter/poppier" concepts) whereas Infinite were more "edgy/hard core pop"). Despite their differences, they both did very well and were quite popular in Korea and overseas.

Started listening to K-pop since 2020. Randomly listened to several K-pop boys & girls group songs. I am very much inclined to vocal oriented group. Yes, dancing is okay. But if I do not like vocal I generally do not listen to their songs that much, irrespective of how popular they are. I now realized the groups I listen most mostly belong to SM Ent - EXO & SHINee. Groups from other agencies are BigBang, Astro & BtoB. MonstaX is my latest addition since the release of their Dreaming album. For girls group I do not listen much except some songs from Mamamoo & very few from other groups. Don't know why but other than Mamamoo, I didn't listen other K-pop girls group much. However I should mention Blackpink as amazing dancers & SNSD has very good vocals & visuals.

But I do think it’s kind of interesting that RBW wasn’t on here, when DSP media was. RBW acquired DSP media this year. So they’re obviously the bigger, more successful label.
