Yes! "Pop" music refers to POPULAR music. Music doesn't have to be about politics, social injustice or any other cause. There are plenty of other ways to address these issues. The whole reason this music was popular was that it was just that....popular. It was "feel good" music in a time in which we needed it. JFK, RFK, MLK assassinations, Cuban Missile Crisis, Cold War were all things we as kids, were just trying to escape from for about 3 minutes at a time. We were trying to focus on enjoying life, first dates, high school dances and other things, in a time that was very dark. This music was medicine for our souls. We needed to "just be kids" for a few minutes at a time. @@jarichards99utube

Only one favorite song from the 60's? I've narrowed my favorites list down to about 100. What wonderful times! I was 14 years old in 1964 and all of the songs increased my raging hormones. I was in love with every girl, everywhere. All of the songs from that era made me smile.
@@boomerguy9935 Boomerguy.... you're so right. I was in high school at 14 also. These songs just bring me back to Costa Mesa High and the school dances we had, and girlfriends we thought would last forever.
At 75 yrs old now, this is still my favorite song. I love it. Heard when I came back from RVN in Dec "64. Laugh, laugh, I thought I'd die. Take that McNamara!
HEY! I had ALWAYS thought that the Beau Brummels were British ( English.....to be exact ). So did a LOT of people..... come to find out. They came out when I was a young teenager (14). About a year into their popularity ( give or take a month )......it was announced that the Beau Brummels were NOT British ( English ) ...... but in fact they were American!!!! Specifically..... from San Francisco!!!!! What a shock that was to me!
One of the best bands of the 1960's. Great songs and great vocals. They kept pace with the best of the British invasion bands. Sal Valentino's voice was incredible
When choosing a name with the record label, they landed on Beau Brummell, because it was a British and It put them right behind the Beatles on the record shelf.
@@philmetcalf9171 Yes, someone else had left a comment stating that the Beau Brummels were given that name because it was in the proximity of the Beatles! So that the group could NOT be overlooked.....I guess!
It's incredible that I can randomly click on a RU-vid video in 2019 and instantly be a 13 year old girl again; listening to this song on a turquoise blue transistor radio in 1965. Remembering every word, every note by ❤️
TV FILM & HiDef Audio--- The CLOSEST thing we will ever have to a TIME MACHINE... GLAD you enjoyed the video. P.S. OO-Yah - 'turquoise blue' a VERY popular color in the 50's & 60's. STILL one of my favorites... : )
@@jarichards99utube Absolutely, the music you can find on RU-vid is amazing! Just subscribed to your channel for that very reason. I have a 60's retro style radio/cd player in the kitchen. Guess what color it is?!?
Yes! I had a tiny AM transistor radio that picked up radio stations from half the country at night. One of my favorites was , "Do Wa Diddy Diddy", by Manfred Man.

Great song. When I got dumped for a cheerleader, I was hurt. Then I heard this song about the time I heard she dumped him for a jock. Boy did I ever laugh. One of the best songs of my generation. Ever song you could relate to a part of your life and have a good memory.
Yea, In my 66 years I've been all through it many times. I know what you mean about memories. In the end that's all we take with us. I try to hang on to the good memories and put the painful ones behind me. It IS one of the best songs of our generation.

I love the way the harmonica keeps playing even when he takes it away from his mouth to sing backing vocals. Lip-syncing to pre-recorded tracks even back then. Always loved this song. It even appeared on Flintstones episode in 1965.

I always remembered this song from when I was a kid. I loved the call and response with the vocals and guitar. I loved the drums. I loved the harmony. I loved the lyrics. I loved the whole damn thing !!!
@@pj61114 Right! Without the harmonica.....it would leave SO MUCH TO BE DESIRED!!!! I just would NOT want to hear, " Laugh Laugh " without it. The harmonica gives this song its " SOUL "!

I saw thesee guys in '65 at the Capital Ballroom in Olympia, WA. There was only three of them. Their rythum guitar player was not there for some reason. They were excellent! Even just the three of them sounded great! Good singers. Great drummer! Saw the Young Rascals there the same year. Terrific musicians!

as a little boy in the car with my mother I grew to really appreciate the great music of the 60s and 70s I lost my mom last month don't know how to go on without you Mom.. I love you Mom
I hope you've passed through the extreme grief stage and can now laugh at the funny things that happened with her. That's okay you know, it helps temper the emptiness you'll always feel.

James K who me. I am but I realize that every generation thinks their music is best and everything before or after is bad for one reason or another. So it’s best to enjoy your music and not criticize another generation’s music.
I was just becoming a teenager in 1965... and I loved this song......it's still wonderful in 2022. The way songs were written, back in the 50's/ 60's, even the 70's..... they told a Story. They were relatable. There's some gems out there, as of today, but not like this. The Walker Brothers are another Group that was underrated, .... as well as some other Groups/ Singers of the time. Thank you for sharing this, it's got everything.... Harmony , great Vocals, Talented musicians.... hits every mark.

...you are welcome.... There's so many Songs and Music that have such amazing " Drum Work " ... but, I've always paid particular attention to that, since I had always wanted to play the Drums... and later in Life, I would date a few Musicians ( drummers). A few songs to listen to: " More than a Feeling " by Boston ; " Hollywood Nights " by Bob Seger/Silver Bullet Band. Two of my favourites where you understand all that " Drum Work ".. of course, there's are MANY MANY MORE .. just a few suggestions. 🙂🥁🎶🎵

I tell ya....., it was groovy being a kid in the mid 1960s. I mean, I remember seeing these guys in animation form, on "The Flintstones", and some other group on "The Jetsons". That was when cartoons did not need the "Viewer Discretion Advised" on the screen. Just pure, wholesome comedy.😄 Tony 58-year-old Air Force VET 🇺🇸

I've liked this song since it came out. Here I am, nearly 80 years old, and I still like it. Seems so pertinent. "Laugh, laugh, I thoght I'd die" was a popular saying in my high school. This band harmonizes so well.
