Sailed on the Norway years ago. I can say the grandeur and beauty of her French design were everywhere. She was magnificent, smoothest ship I've ever sailed on, and I've been on plenty. It never ceases to amaze me, some of the most beautiful things built by man are cast aside like yesterdays garbage too be destroyed. Pray for the SS United States!!!!

We should get more ships based off the France's design. Not the ugly boxes of today.

Ugly boxes are here to stay, unfortunately. The more balconies a ship has, the more marketable and desirable it is to passengers.

Ironically, the _France,_ in her guise as the _Norway,_ inspired many of these problems in design, particularly after her 1990 refit.

By sucks I assume you just mean the style, the more we advance, the more we have to drop the “cool” looking shit, even the ugly boxes” (which I don’t agree with, some cruises look very cool) are eventually going to be outraged by more “uglier” modernized ships.@@koltp1909

It's all ker-ching, ker-ching, today. The France was about national pride. Her building was subsidised at a time when airlines were already eating in to transatlantic traffic. The writing was on the wall. She was a revenue loser.

I hope she was preserved... Even in the configuration of SS Norway(excluding the massive forehead she had after 1990), she looked good. She was definitely a ship to preserve..

@TheMemeDynamics Well, unfortunately the Norway's owners needed to make money off of her demise as they did when she sailing across the ocean. That's why she was scrapped and not preserved. It's always about profits. What a shame.

@Daniel_Huffman
@Daniel_Huffman 2 года назад
She was designed to be the flagship of not just her company, but of her nation’s merchant fleet. And while she wasn’t the largest or the fastest, she was the longest and perhaps the most luxurious. Unlike cruise ships, ocean liners were built as symbols of national pride to represent a nation’s standing in the world.

As of now, I don't really like the SS France. Why? Norwegian Cruise Lines chose the SS France over the SS United States. And now, the SS United States is rotting away in Philadelphia. I personally think that the SS United States was the more beautiful ship, and the SS France was one of the reasons that caused it to end up where it is today, so yeah...

Oh shut up this ship is way more beautiful than the SS United States. Ofc she was fast but her minimalistic interiors were a no. And besides the SS France was more suitable for cruising and if the ncl chose the SS US the SS France would’ve rotted like the SS US today
