So this is the launch - and I wish I could say it was perfect first time, but it wasn’t. The problems were easily fixed, though, and the next couple of trips out have been brilliant. We were lucky with the weather, too.
It is impossible to get over how wonderful and exciting and satisfying it is to sail on the sea in a small boat - and nicer again when we built it ourselves. Definitely, one for the list of rewarding projects we’ve done. The strongest wind we’ve had since it was finished was a Force 3 - hardly enough for a real trial. But, yes, it does sail. Seriously, not bad at all!
Whiddy Island is a bit more than a mile from the mainland at this point - it took us about 15 minutes to get home..
Again, thanks to all those who helped with the build (which was nearly accomplished in one day!) but also those who turned out for the launch to cheer me on and help rescue me. Including Ron, Anthony, Christine, Jaap and Mike - if any of you ever build a boat I’ll definitely do the same for you…
