Let's talk about laundry room must haves!
Growing up, our laundry room was in the basement of our house and it was unfinished space with a washer and a dryer and a large plastic utility sink. My mom had some clothes lines hung from the wood joists above and all the detergents sat underneath the sink. And that's it. It really wasn't a very pleasant space.
But today's laundry room is looking for an upgrade. In fact, a well designed, purpose built room for laundering is now a major focus on most of my client's dream home wish lists. And there's nothing more purposeful than providing a space that is functional and beautiful at the same time.
So here are my top 7 must-haves for today's functional, and beautiful, laundry room.

Your RU-vid channel is one of the best designer channels. I find the information useful and is presented in a very down-to-earth manner...no screeching high-pitched voice, no hands waving all over the place, etc...just a nice, soothing, well-modulated voice and practically-applicable information. I sure would like to see a whole lot more. I'm sure your decorating design business is very busy, and particularly in certain seasons of the year, but I have to ask the question: Are you still going to be making RU-vid videos? It's been 5 months since your last one. How frequently do you typically post your videos? Hope to hear a reply here from you soon. Whatever the case, thank you for some really enjoyable viewing!

These are good tips for people who have money to renovate their laundry room. I was hoping this was a video that was general enough for small laundry rooms as well.

My #1 dilemma is space! My laundry room is so tiny, all that fits is the washer and dryer. I do have overhead wall space I could utilize in some way but not everything on this list.

I know! Most people's kitchens are not as large as the 'laundry rooms' depicted here. My last three bedroom, three bathroom house had a 'laundry closet'. The main purpose for these videos is to make you realise how much you do not have...... :)

I just found your videos and they're such a great resource! If you're making more will you consider one on curtains and window coverings, particularly around problem windows and how to handle things like radiators, obsacles, window seats etc where floor length might not be possible

How about motion/occupancy sensor lighting? You’re hands are always full both entering and leaving the laundry and proper lighting is a must have

Great insight. Our laundry is over run by benchtop mess cos we have no upper cabinets 😜 I'm definitely going to try to diy a remodel on a budget. I spend so much time in our laundry...all of your tips have helped me realise all the features I'm desperately need! Love your channel 😍

I have two sinks in my laundry area. Love it. Highly recommend that But I don't have a drier. I'm lucky to be able to hang my clothes on an outside line. Also, I have a front-load washing machine which I got a box made so my machine is higher off the ground. Easier to load and unload

My laundry room is able to fit my wheelchair going in 1 direction only, then you must back out and go the other way.

I have a choice between a sink or cabinet. Laundry room is small. Because it is off the kitchen, the cabinet wins. I need it to hold stuff.

How about lighting for the laundry room? I'm planning a new house, and I'm concerned that an overhead light in the center of the room will leave shadows on the work areas. Should I just treat it like a kitchen and put in recessed can lights?

@@BarryLawrensen Thats what we have now and its very functional. I'm thinking of putting in a fun light fixture as opposed to just a can light. Also consider ceiling height.
