7.08.2024 y casi todos los días la escucho y lagrimeo en esta canción, no solo por la pasión con la que canta sino de saber que ya no está con nosotros
A woman who had a heart of gold. Who went into retirement to look after her very sick husband. That would've spoken volumes about her character. Which makes her all the more lovable and admired
Disagree Check out Jennifer Rush who wrote this song her voice is amazing . The original version and the best sung version of this song ever. Her voice is angelic like no other voice you will hear . Effortless power and incredible tone. I like Laura Branigan dont get me wrong she had a beautiful nature and l love her version of "Gloria ". I recommend you check out some of Jennifer Rushes music you will be blown away .😀👍
@Rod Linley Everybody is entitled to their own opinion. I like Laura Brannigan's rendition better. No need to push your favorite on anyone else. Let people like what they want.
Pure Natural Talent, complemented with a effortless 5 Octave Range, all delivered with personality and beauty that puts today's so called Performers to shame.
Since people are doing it here (comparing her to the Titanic lady), Laura Branigan was authentic. You believed her, she was true to her music, and you could feel it. She picked up steam and injected that energy into the song as it went on, not phony pseudo build up but real intensity of purpose. Power. Will. She'd finish the song stronger than she started it. Branigan was honest. Some of her songs can be rather haunting. The tones slow, almost tragic. This song, and, for me at least, 'Forever Young' are difficult for me to watch even today. It's as if seeing her again brings it all back. That nerve her singing touched in many of us gets pinged 30 years later proving it wasn't a fluke. She is vulnerable as she tries to reach us. Yet she does it, she put it out there and wanted us to feel something. Dal mio cuore. She preferred to sing sad songs as was her nature, but she loved songs like 'Power Of Love' with its difficult lyrics and vocal gymnastics it demanded of her to yield the product she knew people would 'really' hear. If she could do all of that for us then I can return the favor and enjoy her performance. People remembered and loved her style on stage. She was so unpolished and real. She was a puncher. Not slick, not pretty in pink but a song bird who could have been the kid down the block. I can't remember her name now, but an opera singer said Branigan was her favorite. She said when Branigan died she cried and couldn't stop. Eventually she did, of course. But she still feels the same way about Branigan. That's a large compliment. To her, Branigan was a natural. To her, that was the gift. I don't know when this video was made. Here she is lean, dressed like a normal person and not the 'gone Hollywood' star. The large hair of the era toned down. Her movements are not canned but real. She appears apprehensive as she sings the opening lyrics. Trust me, they're hard marks to hit. It's hard work and she's working hard up on stage. You can see her light up at 1:01 when the audience cheers her singing. After that she's off to the races. At around the 3:03 mark you can see her interpretation reach its climax. Full steam ahead. Her voice is cracking a bit as she takes it out of its range some, but her inner will forces her to hit the notes. I look at this today, a video from maybe 20 plus years ago and far from the blinders we all had from 'living in the now', and I see maybe for the first time what a great talent she was. I believed her when she says 'she's my lady' and 'I'm her man'. Someone said that before she died her career was pretty much over, just like so many 'pop' singers. The critic compared her purloined and tragic end and talent similar to Mario Lanza. I don't know about that but her death took away someone who had the gift, the talent and the will to make us believe in her, and by doing so believe in ourselves. She was 'ours'.
sardu55, I knew Laurie, that's what she liked for me to call her. She called me Scotty, the only person in my life to call me that. She was a real down to earth, sweet and classy Lady. She really cared about people. There's no one on this earth than can or ever will replace her. She was that one in a more than a million. Laurie could reach you with her singing and make you feel what she was feeling. She put so much emotion, passion and love into every song. In person, she was as beautiful inside as she was outside and a real loving human being. We talked often, to hear her voice on the phone, it was so soft and warm. Her personality was awesome. She was witty, funny and very smart. We had a little inside joke if you can call it that, that went on for a while. One day she called me and I said "You're my favorite Yankee" she laughed and said "No, I'm your favorite Irish." I will never ever forget Laurie and her friendship to me. Rest In Peace Laurie. We all miss you.
Laura believed that singing was also acting and really delving the emotions the song portrays. You can ALWAYS feel that in her music and live performances. She is so fully invested in the emotive experience of the music.
MY BELOVED SINGER OF ALL TIME FROM 1984 TILL NOW 2023 AND FOR EVER. MY FAVOURITE SONG OF LAURA BRANIGAN WAS SELF CONTROL. GLORIA,SPANISH EDDIE,POWER OF LOVE,ALL HER SONGS ARE THE VERY BEST OF ALL TIME.LAURA IS REALLY A WONDERFUL LOVING BEAUTIFUL SINGER AND FRIENDLY TO ALL HER FANS . MISS YOU ALWAYS FOR EVER . GOD BLESS LAURA BRANIGAN AND HER FAMILY. RIP WISH YOU LAURA BRANIGAN RE INCARNATIO IN NEXT GENERATION . GOD BLESS LAURA BRANIGAN.
Back in the eighties at home, my mother used to play pop and disco songs in those big old fashioned consoles. Gloria was the first song I heard by Laura Branigan. The thing is over the years I forgot those songs and got myself into rock music. Then I started to play the guitar and suddenly I was very fond of different music styles. Then I turned back to pop music and I started hearing songs like Self Control which is my favourite, but also others like What a Feeling, You drive me crazy, stuff by Roxette and now my music tastes can´t be tagged into one style.
Laura was absolutely incredible and just so beautiful. Johnie Carson was smitten by her, but who wouldn't be? Such a great voice and mortality gone. Such a loss.
Ashley Aaron Are you kidding? They are both great but when it comes to power like Freddie Mercury, Pavarotti,Ben King and Stevie Wonder said only Whitney,Aretha,Ella and Maria Callas had more powerful voices than Celine and Barbra.
I so had the biggest crush on her. Such a beautiful woman with such a dynamic and powerful voice . I hope she is singing and happy on the other side . She will never be forgotten for she left behind her heart and soul .
Prettiest smile to show her love to her fans, and her prettiest eyes had cried 'coz of emotion for meaningful song oh! What talent you have had during performances.
