I've said this before but it truly is "Tear out your heart" intense. She brings insane power to all her songs but I agree, she has left this mortal plane with this performance.

Laura Brannigan was the QUEEN 👸 🙌 of scream. Her grit and growl were undeniably ferocious...vocaly speaking. Logged into the history book as one of the best and beloved female vocalist and artist of her era. A natural talent with range as far as the ear can hear. Her spirit lives on through her body of work.

Laura was indeed a wonderful vocalist taken from us way too young. I'm guessing this amazing performance was from the '80's, before 'Auto-Tune' was introduced and if so, it makes this performance even more incredible, although I have to admit, Jennifer Rush's original is also quite stunning.

Absolutely LOVE her power and presence, and how she soars through this epic song while digging down deep for that raspy grit. I wish others would do as you have done, and dig back into the sort of cultural mess that was the early 80s and pick out the gems. Try some Pat Benatar and Bonnie Raitt. And for a powerhouse woman today, my heavens PLEASE look into Lucinda Williams if you like raw, gritty brilliance.

Unfortunately in 2004 Laura died in her sleep from a brain aneurysm at the age of 52. She was a brilliant singer and is missed.

Laura Branigan had a string of hits, early 80s to early 90s. She had a "belt it out there" voice, but there was very little call for "belt it out there" songs in that time, or she would have been even bigger. I always thought this was the best version, her raspiness made it seem like she was really feeling it. Celine has an almost country twang. I liked Jennifer Rush version (she wrote it and recorded it first in 83). Many others have done this song, but Laura Branigan has more emotion to it, almost like she is about to cry.

I “missed” Jennifer in her prime-in fact, I only discovered her 2 months ago. I am a big fan of Celine and only discovered Jennifer because I came across Celine’s cover of POL including Jennifer. I couldn’t believe my ears. I’m 84 and have heard them all, from Ginger Rogers to Edith Piaf to Vera Lynn. Then Diana Ross, Aretha Franklin, Barbara Streisand, Dusty Springfield, Tammy Wynette, and Bonnie Tyler. Add Gloria Gaynor, Connie Francis, Laura Branigan, Linda Ronstadt, Rita Coolidge, Celine, Mariah, and Whitney and you have the lineup of the greats right up to Adele and Susan Boyle. But, Jennifer Rush has the all-around best female voice I have ever heard. Her operatic training adds an unmatched vibrato containing depth and texture. And she sings everything: opera, pop, rock, and ballads in English, Spanish, German, and Hungarian. She has written or co-written the lyrics and music for many of her songs, done duets with Placido Domingo and Jose Carreras, Elton John, and Brian May-sorry-Sir Brian May-and performed live all over the world-but not in America, except in March and April 1986 on the Carson show and the Dick Clark Show; that’s it. Yes. If Jennifer had decided to live her life in the US, she would still be in Las Vegas or on tour. It would be great if you reacted to 3 more of my favorites: “Who Wants to Live Forever?”, “Hero of a Fool”, and “Stronghold”.

My favorite version of this song, and everyone I know who has heard it as well!! One of the best singers ever. Hard to believe she will be dead 16 years in August. My next favorite version of this song is Jennifer Rush. Air Supply did a good version as well. Of course there is Celine whom is incredible too!

Great choice for a reaction! Laura Branigan is somewhat forgotten, even though, as you might see from this track, her vocal capability is amazing. I'd suggest you to check out basically any of her live performances, because she really kills those vocals. Besides her most iconic song, ''Gloria'', also ''Solitaire'' and ''Satisfaction'' are killer songs. Give it a try!

She has one of the strongest pops singers voices. Please do Bonnie Tyler total eclipse of the heart live. She is the same era with unique voice.

Laura Branigan was definitely a powerhouse vocalist in the 80s and I always liked her version. Funny thing on this...I thought she was the originator of the song until I watched your video. I guess I'll have to look up Jennifer Rush. 😉
