This is really the saddest scene in the movie, especially when you see her family walking up and the Tsar dancing with her as a grown woman. And then to think that he never has been able to because of what happened to them. :(

Yes it was terrible, and it never should have happened, but at the same time the reason there was an uprising was because he gave his people no freedom and crushed any hint of rebellion, and lived in luxury while most of the working class starved to death. He formed a committee to represent the people just long enough to stabilize things then abolished it as soon as he got what he needed. He was far more interested in keeping the Romanovs in absolute power than he was in the needs of his people. It’s true he and his family shouldn’t have been executed in this way, but I can understand why the people did it, even if I disagree with how they handled it. Image the rage of the people who had watched their children starve to death while the monarchy ignored them and lived in lavish prosperity. They were murderously enraged, and the Tzar thought he could get away with anything because he was royalty. It wasn’t quite the fairy tale everyone makes it out to be. All we can do now is take every step possible to make sure history never repeats itself. Which is why I believe the governments only real job should be to protect us from those who would seek to harm us, both foreign and domestic. Anything more than that is too much power for the government to have.

Don't cry for Tsar Nicholas is dancing with his daughter in Heaven, for they are saints in the Orthodox Church.

@@jordanmicahcook Solzhenitsyn explains very well how it was not 'the people' that murdered the royal family and seized power, and life for the peasants became far worse under the bolsheviks. Russians were not the only people suffering during the war; millions of Germans and Hungarians died of malnutrition from the hunger blockade, for instance. Nicholas was not perfect; stability and security ruled the day, but social and land reform was inevitable and certainly was on the agenda to be implemented slowly but steadily over time. Fundamental changes to a nation like that could not be expected to happen overnight, especially in the midst of all the crises at the time, including the bloodiest and most terrible war in history.

And if you look closely you'll notice that the little boy has a slight limp because the real life child I had a limp because of I think either a childhood disease or some sort of disorder I think maybe one like for the other I'm not entirely sure but the real life kid has a limp and so does the cartoon character

I wrote a play about the Romanovs from the point of view of the kids (I played Olga the oldest) and it's sad Nicky and Alix never got to see any of the children grow up. We played this in rehearsal once, and our Nicky and Alix even had a little dance when they thought none of us could see.

Dancing Bears Painted Wings Things I almost remember. And a song someone sings Once upon a December. Someone holds me safe and warm. Horses prance through a silver storm. Figures dancing gracefully across my memory. Someone holds me safe and warm. Horses prance through a silver storm. Figures dancing gracefully across my memory. Far away, Long ago, Glowing dim as an ember, Things my heart Used to know Things it yearns to remember And a song someone sings Once upon a December
