It's more deconstruction in the Everyday Château and it's harder than it looks, but first, we've got Laura Ingalls Wilder fever and what better way to celebrate our favourite heroine than by baking the Laura Ingalls Wedding Cake and throwing a proper Little House on the Prairie Birthday Party?
Meanwhile, we've CUT into the envelope and installed some built-ins we found at the thrift AND Joel has finally agreed to get rid of the cheesy double windows and plastic grates. We realized this bit of creativity will NOT affect the integrity of the "envelope". (To see the legit UGLY "before" clips of this room be sure you've seen S2 EI.
We've realized we CAN keep the integrity of the eco-house without these windows and so it's GAME on as we create fabulous, deep, British cottage inspired windowsills!

In Laura's day, the butter was fresh, not refrigerator hard. I think it is so nice that your daughters are following mother around the kitchen and learning by doing.

So fun ! When my daughter turned eight, we had a Little House birthday. It was complete with the same cake, hand cranked ice cream, and horse drawn carriage rides (we lived in Amish country at the time.) The stirring and beating is a workout! The dressing up was so fun too. These are the funnest family memories. Living history!

I binged all the Everyday Chateau episodes a week ago and loved this episode as I am also a huge fan of Laura Ingalls’ books (after reading them when I was a little girl, I wanted to be a “pioneer” when I grew up 🙈). The Little House Cookbook sounded so charming and today when thrifting for fall clothes, I FOUND A COPY!! Je suis très contente d’avoir trouvé ce livre 💕

My sister and I re-read the Little House books a couple years ago (we are both in our 50’s, married and live in different states) it was a great way to reconnect with each other. We then each hand cut and stitched a Laura Ingalls Wilder quilt. Thankfully they are wall/lap sized! I am a quilter but I am thankful for my modern sewing machine! I am proud of my attempt and mine hangs in my bedroom. BTW-my favorite book was The Long Winter. Your book was a great find! We also became Laura fanatics! Love Joel’s WhatNotShelf !

Oh my gosh, I loved this video so much! I have been reading Laura's books since I was a young girl and I still read them at bedtime to help get into a calm, happy mental state for sleep. I loved all of your references to the books - the candle, the whatnot, the china shepherdess, etc. Thank you, you really brought a smile to face!

That was so lovely. Cooking traditionally in period costume with your girls. I ordered your book From France to the Farm, received it yesterday. I love the book and your channel. You have no idea how much I love this video & have loved Laura Ingalls Wilder my entire life! I think I was 8 or 9 when my mother would sit down every night & read 1 or 2 chapters to me before she tucked me in. And I was 12 when we drove from Oregon to Missouri to visit the museum & tour Laura & Almanzo's home. So many sweet memories! You are so fun to watch with your precious girls! Thank you for sharing.

Lol my husband dug our well by hand when we jumped off grid in 2015 😉😙but I have yet to whip egg whites by hand... thank god for solar and my mix master 😀 i super loved this. I'm a huge little house fan. The books and the show were such a huge inspiration for our own jump to the big woods of northern mn... we had a suburban and tents tho lol no horses and wagon. This was adorable ♡

The Wilders live in Montesano Washington. There are no direct descendents because Laura's daughter Rose's only child died in infantcy. But if Wilder counts i'm related.

woods_n_tea what’s weird is I’m related to the first or one of the first French people that traveled to Canada and I’m related to the Seguin, Guy and others.my uncle is still alive in Canada but my grandmother just died . I’m also nippising native Indian too.

Just watched this with my daughter who was married this past June. It brought back some wonderful memories for us! We home schooled and she too had a huge love for the Laura Ingalls series! I had a book called The Prairie Primer, which was a curriculum based on the book series. Every subject was included. Not sure if it is still there n print, but we sure loved that thing! At that time we lived in a very rural area in northern Michigan and ran a greenhouse and nursery business in the middle of many acres of potatoes. We have always loved cooking and baking together and dressing up. She had sooooooooo many dress ups and I have kept them in an antique trunk, waiting for my future granddaughter to enjoy. Anyway, we watched the video and enjoyed it so much. My daughter will no doubt go home and subscribe as well. It is wonderful to watch the house transformation, see your beautiful kids, and sweet hubby, and all of your adventures and projects. It warms my heart! God bless you all and continue to prosper the work of your hands.

I cried so hard when I finished reading the series of Little House books. I was 8, that was before the series. It was my happiest day when the TV series started. This was so much fun to watch 🌼

I loved every minute of this video. Laura Ingalls is a favorite of mine. You looked beautiful dressed as her. I was also so pleased to learn the Tennyson connection. My husband loves Tennyson and we named our oldest Hunter Tennyson because of a poem that my husband first wrote to me. My Tennyson books sit by my bed. I'll treasure them even more now.

My poor dears! You had the solution to voluminous whipped egg whites right at your fingertips! As all great French chef's know, it's copper! Next time you'll know to pull an old copper vessel from off your walls to whip your egg whites pronto. (The bookshelves look fabulous.)

Right. We know:). But Ma didn’t have copper. The original Little House on the Prairie recipe calls for egg whites to be whisked on a plate :-) so we were already cheating with our shallow tin bowl. Lol

Joel cracked me up at the end. 😂 I love those shelves and that window is gorgeous. Well done whoever takes the credit for that idea. I have a small book of Tennyson's poems in my shelf full of Laura's books. We have the cookbook, sewing and the craft books too. I even have the stories other authors have written about Laura's mum, nana and right up. I adore them all and it must be time I read them all again. Great video.

Love this! Never had daughters but did bake with my sons but no bonnets were involved. They are adults now and still cook and bake. Joel was too charming in his spotlight! Things are coming together and that cake was so beautiful I could almost taste the almond and lemon. Thanks for some magic~

My grandma had those same brown bowls. My aunt started collecting them for all of us. We were told they have lead in them so I only use them for decoration. I should get a test kit so we can know for sure.

Gosh - who's the ONE poop head to not like this video?!! I loved seeing your sweet little girls re-enacting a "day in the life" of Laura Ingalls! The window and book case came out great.
