One of those songs that stay with you to haunt you, to make you reveal your true self to yourself, to cry your soul and eyes out to. I can't even define what I feel while listening to it. It's like the hardest burden and the feeling of complete freedom and relief simultaneously. It just transcends space and time.
I had the exact same experience, only several years back. The tune, her voice, and even the music video, are all so haunting with just the right amount of eerie
I truly love this understated, haunting song. Normally, I hate music videos, but this one perfectly captures what a bad dreams feels like, from its unfocused cinematography, ambient darkness, unclear yet uncomfortably close "monsters" represented by individuals in ominous and plain yet distinct masks, and the ever-present inability to run or even walk quickly (a staple of nightmares). Whether it's Halloween or any given day or night, this video is a spooky and atmospheric treat, with a lighthearted and calming ending.
ive been obsessed with this song all week i cant stop listening but if i'm going to have an obsession it might as well be the music of someone who is as talented as she is
I woke up and he was screaming, I'd left him dreaming. I'll roll over and shake him tightly And whisper, 'If they want you, they're gonna have to fight me. Oh fight me.' I woke up on a bench on Shepherd's Bush Green, A candle at my chest, and a head on his knee. I got up it was dark there is no one in the park at this hour. How do I keep finding myself here? 'Oh fight me.' If look back and he is screaming, I'd left him dreaming A dangerous feat. And I'll run back and shake him tightly And scream, 'If they want him they're gonna have to fight me. Oh fight me.' But if I wake up on a bench on Shepherd's Bush Green, A candle at my chest, and a head on his knee I'll roll over and hold on tightly And scream, 'If you want him, you're gonna have to fight me. Oh fight me. Oh fight me'
This is the first song that i heard from Laura Marling and straight away it caught my attention. It was quite mezmerizing to hear it for the first time. I bought her album straight after that and it was so worth it. Fabulous artist and pure musical talent for such a young beautiful artist. 5/5
4th day into a migraine and it's 1.43am. My beautiful wife sleeps tight. Once again I'm fighting that space and the terrors off my minds eye. Not for me a good night God bless. Then this. Its why creativity is so important. Thank you
I was born in 75 and done a whole lot of moving about but nothing concrete but don't feel depressed so those born before or after Laaura do not be drepressed she deserves to be heard
From the words of a few of her songs she must've been in a relationship with someone with bipolar/depression to have such a beautiful understanding of trying to connect with someone in utter despair. Beautiful song, beautiful girl.
i saw this on e4 this morning, never heard of you before ms marling. so i wrote it on my hand to remind me to look for it on here later in the day, and my politics teacher (nice middle aged man) comes up to me, reads my hand and says, "ahh didnt know you were a marling fan laurence, i love that song" wahey, my politics eacher just gained a cool point :)
Laura Marling is an extraordinary singer, magnificent way of expressing what she feels, extraordinary voice. Have you heard an eighteenth year artist capable of goin´ forward and jump from genre to genre hitting artists like Muse (in the beginning), Joan Baez in the song Crawled out of the sea? I think she can go as high as she wants to fly
Ya its definitely "alas I cannot swim", its the hidden track at the end of the album "alas I cannot swim" Its my favourite song on the album next to this. Poignant lyrics :)
